Found this linked from a stupid/immature/egotistical thread over at NS.com where I lurk a fair bit. I actually read all of it and it really is sobering. Ignore the source where I dug it up, it really should have been a mature subject in the first place.

Might make you think twice while going for a spirited drive.. The story is posted by 10 Pence Short about 2/3 down the page.

Thoughts? I know I'm not an angel on the roads but please tell me the hills aren't full of the type of people I sourced this from.

I've read that before, it sounds like an excerpt from a novel or something.

When he describes the scene immediately after the collision, it sounds too well written, so either the guy is a reporter/journalist/author or the story is a crock.

Either way, it does make you think.

i can understand people going for a hill run and having a squirt on the gas pedal but i dont understand how ppl can go drifing in the hills...going around a corner sideways without knowing if something is around the corner or not does not do it for me..call me a pussy i dont care but its not for me..

at least it sounds he is remoursful (spelling)

A truely terrible experience I'm sure.

It is very sobering as previously mentioned, but I know for a fact its not going to change the way I drive and I doubt itll change the way that many (if anybody) in here drives. Im a bit of a hoon, Ill admit that. But I think we all know the possible consequences are one of those things that we really cant properly comprehend until we're there and its happening... And even then, Im sure we'd struggle.

Im not really sure where Im going with this. But yeah.

Doh, forgot to mention the contents of the locked NS.com thread...

They were talking about deliberately crossing double white lines in the Adelaide Hills >.<

I know the read probably won't change my driving as I don't even drive 6/10 of my limit, it's that reading that may stop you from pushing your boundaries on public roads in a moronic manner.

I heard many stories from my riding buddies about "ricers" in their imports "drifting" thru the hills and almost collecting them. I've heard a story or two how the drifter actually collided with a motorcycle. Never gave it much thought until it almost happened to me a couple of years back! :) I was riding thru the hills and a 180 came around the corner sideways ... I would have hit him but the fact that he lost control and skidded off the road out of my path is the only thing that saved me getting hit. Farking idiot got out of the car laughing like it was some big joke. Me and my mates got stuck into him and his mates. One mate of mine dropped his bike from grabbing too much front brake in his panic. :D

You drift anywhere but on a race track, you're an idiot.

I dont drift myself but i have mates that do and it doesnt bother me too much where they do it.

BUT!

Not on blind corners. Not when other cars/bikes around. And not if you dont know exactly what the hell you're doing.

although not the hills, it reminds me of an incident during a cruise a few months ago along the Semaphore Esplanade on the way to Glenelg.

I was on my bike and had pulled over to the left side of the road to let some of the young tailgaters drive past when one of them decided to drop a skid and got it all crossed up as he headed straight for me.................you know who you are cause I shook my fist at you and pointed at you at the same time........Steve Madaz was in the vicinity at the time so he and a few others here may have seen it to.

No apology later either.............imagine how sorry you would've been if you had of hit me?!

Yeah not a great story, but unfortunately this type of action does happen,as a few people have already said,i think for me having riding bikes all my life tend to have an appreciation for this not happening,so when i drive my 33 i never get the feeling to want to drift in the hills cause you know on a nice day my mates could be just round the next corner,so cleaning one up isnt a thought i want ever, its hard enough hearing about their almost stories, people buy these cars not really knowing how to drive them also an issue

drifting hills run!!!!!! too much initial d for him! i have rules when going to the hills, there are too never cross the centre line (but sometimes you need to when you screw up) i never take blind corners hard! once had another car going owards me in my lane! and i always slow down when i see another car comming! still risky going on hill runs but at least i can cut the risk % down

the T junction on gorge rd is a hairy one, deadly if you approach too fast. Theres also a bend on gorge that is a slight left, then jags fairly tight further to the left, if you go too fast around that your over cliffs. definately need to be alert in them there hills.

pete, is this person still on here?

if its the cruise im thinkin of, i think i seen the tail end of it

Its shitful when your minding your own business and some f**ktart puts you in harms way. :D

I've had a few mates hit up the arse sitting at lights in the last 12 months alone.

Reason why I lane split: so no fool can run up my arse.

Hope the member who nearly got ya is cowering in some corner. :P
