ive tried to google search it and find it on the garret website but i cant get hard evidence on what it actually is??

can anyone help

i wanna compare it too a 3071r which im thinking of changing too on my rb20

im chasing 260rwkw full boost at 5000

at the moment im getting 260rwkw but full boost at 5500 - 6000

how can i compare the two??

That 700177-5014 cartrige is the one used in GT3082R (GT3040R in oldspeak) .

They are basically the GT3582R's compressor and housing on the smaller GT30 hot side .

Garrett don't show them on their website from memory and many people (inc me) think they have too much compressor for the turbine size but having said that some still like them .

GT3071R compressor is a 71.1mm 56 trim GT wheel . GT3082R's compressor is an 82mm 56 trim GT wheel .

For an RB20 a 44 lb (air pumping wise) compressor should be far more suitable than 62 lb one and noticably more responsive .

Possibly too expensive but a GTRS (HKS spec GT2871R 52T) is probably better again on a roadie or even an RB spec (T3 flanged) GT2530 .

Cheers A .

Thats a little under 350 Hp and at the crank I think its possible - provided the engine breathes well enough to do it .

Do somes searches on GTRS's and RB20's , Roy had some info on how these turbos stacked up against his Mitsy TD turbo and for an integral gate turbo they did reasonably well .

For me it'd be either GCG Hi Flow or 2530 or GTRS based on what I could afford to spend .

Cheers A .

I recently put one of these turbos on my Sr (700177-5014)

With 270 cams, .64 rear housing i had full boost of 17psi by 4900/5000Rpm.

Given that post above info (cheers mate) I have a feeling i'm not even into the turbos efficiency range

I'm not terribly fond of the lag, so im looking for a smaller turbo and i think ill stick this one on the 3l.

anyway, bump for super old post.

+ found some info on the turbo here : http://www.sonicperformance.com.au/700177_dash_5014/Garrett-GT3082RL-CHRA/pd.php

Old thread revamp .

The thing is that the Garrett version of the GT3082R , once known as the GT3040R , use a larger trim version of the 82mm GT40 compressor than the HKS spec one did ie 56T for the Garrett marketed one and 50T for the HKS spec one . Both are made by Garrett but HKS paid for the development of their dialled in version and had exclusive rights to it for a few years .

Imo any GT30 based turbo isn't exactly small for a 2 Litre four cylinder but with Garrett its a big jump down from GT30 to GT28 turbines and turbine housings . I believe the few band aids like the cropped GT30 turbine are a crock and only recently proper turbine housings appeared for them - but in limited applications ie no T3 flanged integral waste gate option . I reckon this is why people go to Hypergear and TD series turbos because they bridge the gap Garrett isn't willing to .

For the record I had a HKS GTRS on my GTS25T and it made 271 RWKWs (E70 juice) on its knees and with falling boost pressure .

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
