Hey guys i was thinking of picking up a e-manage gold for $400 for my new 34 GT (pics to come soon)

I was wondering if it would work with a non turbo skyline because it came from a GT-T, i know a few of the PFC's work with both but im not 100% sure about piggyback systems.

Also would the power output be worthwhile,

Current mods are a 2 and a half inch kakimoto catback exhasut system, extractors and pod filter.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated thanks. :P

I've installed an eManage Blue on my N/A R33, as I've just about got all the stuff now to do the turbo conversion (rb25de+t high-compression turbo setup). I havn't got it tuned or anything yet, just basically zeroed it out, so there's no power increase or anything, but I just wanted it all ready to go for when I do the conversion. From my experience, I couldn't see why one from an R34GTT wouldn't hook straight up to an R34GT, though make sure it's all zeroed out before you start it up, as the tune for the GTT will probably still be on there and that could cause issues.

As for the benefits however, I can't say (as mine is only there in preparation for the NA => +T conversion soon), but I'd assume you're gonna be more limited than on a turbo. The main reason you go for an aftermarket ECU on a turbo is that for some reason you've outgrown the capabilities of the factory ECU... in my case that's because I'm bolting a turbo on with an N/A ECU, but it could be an upgraded turbo, different injectors or AFM, etc. With all that stock, there's really not much more that can be tuned... all you'll be adjusting really is your air/fuel ratio, and on an N/A there's not that much you can do about that anyway.

In short: possible: - yes, but worth it - possibly not.

That said, I've not had mine tuned or anything so I can't speak from experience.

To answer your question of will it work: I believe MissR34 is using a PowerFC in her N/A R34. If you have an Auto though then you're pretty much limited to something like an eManage due to shift logic (I think that's correct).

Is it worth it? Well Samon's pretty much nailed that question. There may be small gains to be made with the eManage on an R34GT with the mods you have, but I agree that you're probably better off investing the $400 elsewhere as the R34 ECU will adapt well to the breathing mods. Getting big gains from an N/A car doesn't come that easily, or rather cheaply.

Don't forget you'll need a tune done as well to add to the cost.

If you're planning on big mods like bigger cams, internal engine work, nitrous, or as Samon said a turbo conversion, then yeah Engine Management will help prepare it for that.

The extent of how much you want to get out of the car power wise and the dollars you're prepared to spend will be the deciding factor of whether to go for a PowerFC or Piggy Back.

If you're not planning on doing big mods like listed above, and you still want to spend said money....spend it on suspension. The cost of an e-Manage + Install + Tune will quite easily get you a set of Whiteline sway bars and put a bit extra on top again and you could get some lowered springs. Sway bars are probably one of the best bang per buck mods you can do to any car to help with handling and help make the most out of power already there.

Ps. The turbo conversion is quite an attractive option in my opinion with an R34, one that I'm in the process of myself.

Thanks guys, guess i wont be getting based on this advice, probably a good thing for me anyways.

Gotta get over my 'new car syndrome' and look out for christmas.

Forgot to mention The car came with blistein coilover suspension.. havnt gotten under her yet to check it out though..

should probably get around to doin that when i get a day off hehe.

Yeah, talking to MissR34 (Cara), its worthwhile saving for a PowerFC.

Now as for the E-manage....the blue: No workshop that I asked recommended it for the R34, Im not sure how the Gold compares. But it was something to do with the coilpacks....Please ask around first if you are to install the gold as coilpacks are pretty expensive.

I bought and sold my E-manage blue because of the all negative reports it received being installed on 34s.

i haven't had much to do with the gold, but i have tuned a ultimate on a mates 33 (although it was turbo) and they are a good unit. very easy to use with the windows tuning software.

as for how much of a performance gain you will get, that will depend on how your car is running at the moment. i know that if i was to put one on the missus pulsar it would have a decent gain because with the stock ecu from about 5000rpm upwards the AFR's drop down into the 11's, and by 7000rpm it is down into the 10's.

i know that on the magna forum there are quite a few guys running emanage and gaining about 10 to 15kw.
