There is a guy from Mandurah in my club.. or thinks hes in my club rather.. who has turbo'd his lancer gli.. he has an A-pillar gauge with TWO boost gauges.. I asked him 'why 2 boost gauges?'.. and his reply was '.. coz it makes it look like it's twin turbo!'.

I looked at him and walked off..

To cut a long story short imo, if you mod a lancer you run the risk of falling into the same category. But each to their own. I'm just saying it's not something I'd do. :(

You need a new social group! LOL

well if he's wanting to do it to gratify his own interest in ricing up gay cars i guess he should go for it....

but if he's doing it to impress ppl id tell him not to bother cos the only ppl who won't be thinking he's a douche will be 13 yr old girls who will be eyeing off the car not cos they think the drivers hot shit but cos they hope their daddy can buy them one like that when they have their L's...

but in seriousness im no Lancer hater...i've had two including my current daily which has been dumped on its ass (by previous owner) and has factory kit, mags etc. It looks all right, is economical and reliable which is all you really need in a daily car, just don't pretend its something that its not (ie. dress it up to look like some wanky street racer, cos you know even a stock falcodore will kill it in a straight line). :(

get an early 90s civic hatch.. not the coolest of cars, but the dohc models have a little zip and those things are on rails! great fun.

they're pretty cheap and they run on fumes. also cheap for insurance.. getting a lancer and ricing it up isn't a good way to save money for a proper car.

Yeah ditto, althought I paid 11k for my 32 and it came with coilovers, adj. camber bushes on front, fmic, gtr drivers seat split dump and catback exhaust. I then spent $300 on a 25 turbo, $30 on a decat pipe and $20 on a 3" front pipe and also put an 044 fuel pump in and drove it like that for a year making a fun and revvy 250rwhp :(

IMO if you've got 13k but you still don't want to buy a turbo car cos itll set you back to much $$$ i think you should start looking at other hobbies...realistically insurance premiums for driving decent turbo cars don't start getting reasonable until your 25+...i've been off my P's for over 1 year and have absolutely no driving infringements or accidents to my name yet when shopping around for comprehensive insurance just for my 2002 lancer i was getn quotes of $1100-$1500 for a four door, 4cyl non turbo fwd!!! Basically you've got to bite the bullet and ware the stupid premium, or just get 3rd party fire and theft for cheaper or just realise your passion for nice cars doesnt out way ur passion for having a healthy bank account...cos everyone knows the most expensive thing bout old turbo cars aint insuring them...its maintaining them :P

$1100-1500 for a 02 lancer? :P

I got a quote from HBF for a new 09 civic vti-l and its only gonna cost me like $900-1k... But keep in mind I have 50% NCB..

After 1 more year.. I'll have 60% NCB which will see my insurance drop from $900-1k to $750-850...

Edit: Btw im only turning 21 in december 08

how old is your pal?

I'm still not sure why people keep recommending him to blow his $13k. Jeez man if you're young and you have saved that much then keep saving! You're obviously good at it. Just don't go investing in the share market right now :P

lancer + evo kit is the same as hyundai with chook cooker exhaust.

no respect.

i have more respect for lancers that look standard.

BUY my girlfriends sisters Prelude Gen 5 has body kit, altezza lights, exhaust, neons around her plates, stereo, rims, dark blue etc all the 'fantastic stuff' done. just buy it --- shameless plug.

contact me for info.

i got a r33 gtst from 13k to 7.8k .. im 19 insurance is i think 2k or something around that.. mods were FMIC / 3 inch catback / bov / turbo / rims / sound system / gtr wing i got a lucky bargain but they are out there.. and if ur mate has 13k f**k u can easily get a 33 turbo and still be able to pay for the year of insurance plus mods.. tell him to keep looking ! news paper , internet sites are the best to find the bargains..

Yeh dont have the benefit of a NCB yet sadly cos first car (old lancer which i first learnt to drive in) was insured in parents name, 2nd car was a 180sx which i only had 3rd party fire ad theft for cos insurance was $$$ and no one would touch it for comprehensive cos it had a harlequin paint job, 3rd car s13 which is unrego'd track car... and 4th car is current lancer (1st car i have had comprehensively insured in my name)...so yeh with NCB your right things can get a BIT better but i'd say a lot of young ppl would be in my position of having not had a car fully in their name thus not amounting a NCB...

I am not even going to read peoples reply cause i am sure they will be similar to mine so i am really just reiterating.

When i see any lancer other then a genuine evo with any mods such as rims, exhaust, bodykit, etc i feel disgusted.

To me the biggest rice machine is a lancer. If its a chick i'll accept it. If its a bloke i feel like ripping there door open and beating some sense into the idiot. If only they realised how much of a loser they were to people they might think twice. The are complete ignorant morans who haven't learnt anything about cars.

Its like a p-plater fanging it around thinking he/she is the worlds best driver.

Slap them in the face for me

No offense

:P

    • I really don't understand the point of aftermarket oil pumps if your particular engine doesn't need more oil pressure. As far as I can make sense of it the problem seems to be cavitation from sucking air, maybe the pump gear design with how it interfaces with the OEM crank, and maybe the backing plate screws wanting to loosen themselves. How does flowing more oil fix these issues?
    • More photos are up, and the price has been dropped to $16,000. It's just had a service and a new 12V battery, too.
    • I agree on doing some better than factory pistons, rods, and oil pump. For anyone using the vehicle on the road, I don't get why everyone wants big cams. The stock cam profile, with some more lift would be mint for road usage. Everyone going big cams and then wondering why it isn't as responsive in traffic, when they've shifted the torque curve upwards an additional 1000RPM. Make torque, at lower RPM. Sure it's not as cool as claiming "500KW" and revving it to 8,0000RPM, but that same torque 2,000RPM earlier... Then you don't need the extremely high end pistons and rods, and blah blah blah.
    • Personal experience. Those f**kers burn. And are actually a PITA to put out. Next time I walk down the back, I'll snap a photo of what the inside of the bonnet looks like when that thing ignites. PS, powder fire extinguishers are useless on that stuff too as it's fibrous and when it ignites, it starts to pull apart. And you end up just blowing powder through a sieve effectively.   Like the big thing is, if it's fire resistant, it's job is to stop what burning? The METAL above it? It's just to try keep heat off the bonnet paint work.
