the turbo hasn't run out of puff...

i run an HKS 2835 pro s which is basically the same unit your running, and i am still sitting happily on full boost when my 7400 rev limiter kicks in.

thats over a titch over 4000 revs on 20 psi in every gear... FUNFUNFUN if i could rev the engine out to 8500 i recon i'd have 5000 ... ah well cest la vie

gcg built, vg30 exhaust, gt30 front, pass, pass, next, pass.
Questions:

What turbine housing?

What turbine?

Your power curve looks very similar to skylinecouples -5023 with the .8odd turbine housing but your low/mid range power matches mine with the .63 and runs away at the top end....

GT30 Housing.

So is it the -5023 "real" cartridge with a Garrett GT30 turbine housing, or the cartridge running the cropped turbine rotor + OP6 copy turbine housing?

Largely an academic question because it's obviously hit the mark for you, but trying to gauge where it all fits with the experiences/results of BHDave and Simon-R32.

Let's hope it runs down the strip as you want it to.

cheers

Saw 100% duty last night, ouch, might have to bump a little more pressure into the injectors, or maybe drop a little boost back, aghh, dont like going backwards.

What about some S15 480cc's. Pretty simple upgrade to keep things safe?

if you're hitting 100% dc then dropping a pound or two isn't exactly going backwards... in fact i'd say its a step forward as you'll still have a engine :D

Yes, still needs a little fine tuning, might have to bump the fuel pressure up a little so i at least i have a little in reserve. I can also play around with the jaycar IEBC to shut the boost controller off a little more up higher to hold boost.

Well, that makes me look stupid because I can't get another kw out of mine. 3071 .82 genuine Garrett. 264rwkw. Matt at Hitman says he thinks it is the exhaust as I have a Fujitsubo quiet with the twin 2" pipes inside and only a 3" dump and when you consider the turbines size then add the internal wastegate, well, could be holding things up a bit. Amazing you reached 275kws, not that I disbelieve you, but surely I couldn't be 11kws down could I ? I will definately get that exhaust replaced. Maybe a exhaust cam gear is needed or an exhaust cam. Mine also seems to run out off puff at 6,000rpm. We put the boost up to 19lbs from 18 and made 1kw.

Apparently you can also upgrade to larger injectors. Just a thought..........

Try adding a little more boost, i was getting strong gains all accross the board with slight boost increases

Read last line, no difference. I have been thinking for some time the exhaust is restricting it. I know in the States this compressor is good for 400hp but then again over there they get that out of honda V-tecs with cams and reflash. :ninja: It IS the States, they're just better than us.........right? But I should be able to run it up to 20lbs at least. May try the cam gear first. Start with the smallest and work my way through. Oh, and Ash, I believe your right, the dyno would possibly be a happy dyno but doesn't explain the lack of boost cabability.

Gary if you have twin 2" pipes then there is 12% less available cross sectional area for flow vs a single 3" pipe.

Muffler design + capacity + noise restriction can also cost significant power if you want to make it liveable and keep out of trouble on the road.

I went from 365rwhp to 388rwhp simply from removing a restrictor in the tailpipe that keeps sound levels legal. The change also makes it unbearably noisy for street use, so I can wear the lower output.

There is always a down side to keeping your car quiet. I have been thinking about making my own exhaust system for some time now. I was a very good welder back a few years ago. I was having a conversation with Matt at Hitman and he guarantees me a 3.5" system, though noisier and drones a bit more will give me a much better result as he assures me that is the problem since he has always gained power and better boost response from a bigger exhaust. First I have to slide a 3.5" pipe over the existing dump mark it, cut and weld as an exhaust is only as big as the smallest part. Then put the dump to cat part of the pipe in a press and squash it a little for better ground clearance then a normal 3.5" for the rest but with an extra long hot dog for droning.

Robo, The Z32 AFM what peak voltage are you seeing?

I run GTR 444 injectors. They flowed 440cc at 36psi and 480cc at 40psi.

At base pressure they were maxed as 260rwkw approached (Z32 saw 4.78volts) to hold a 11.8:1 afr.

A 1afr point drop at idle (adj fpr) and fitting cams has seen them go to 302rwkw at 90% duty and a flat 12:1 afr. 302rwkw I'm now seeing a flat 5volts on the Z32.

I'd really like a 3.5" exhaust with 2 large body mufflers in an attempt to keep the noise down.

So in your opinion cams are a must for maximum efficientcy. Thats a fantastic difference from 260 to 300. I think with the housing that Robo has and most certainly my .82 there could be big gains in cams of say, 256inlet/260 exhaust due to the freeing up of the exhaust and because the turbo is is now very efficient but the motor less so.

Perfect Roy, just perfect. Internal should be ok as the 20 needs to rev harder before real boost so shouldn't spike but you can't beat a real waste gate. Say, a 38mm or 44mmm even better. If the 25 are making 260 then the 20 should do it with cams and revs.

    • I'm running a Haltech Platinum Pro with the stock map for the RB20DET + tweaks for my build. When I started it this morning, the IAT was at 32F/0C (Outside temp was ~42F) and the AFRs went off the scale for my AEM gauge. I let it run for ~30 seconds then turned it off. I then did a smoke test, by hooking into a vacuum line directly behind the throttle body, and confirmed there was no leaks ( i let the smoke tester run for ~5 minutes / confirmed it was generating smoke before hand ). I then started the car again, after fixing a power steering leak.... and it seemed to be happy for ~30 seconds (was at ~11/12), but then seemingly shot back up to ~18 again. I then let the car run for a few minutes, thinking this was just cold start related, but the AFRs never came back down. I didn't let the car fully warm up, so maybe this makes sense, but I'm not sure what to do? The AFRs, when I last ran it, were normal, but because of personal reasons I haven't been able to break in the car. It was rebuilt last year.
