My Tacho Needle Points Straight Down

My tacho is playing up.

It either points to 0 or just gets stuck pointing down.

What could be the fault?

Can i fix it?

So uh buddy....when the law states you must have two hands on the steering wheel at all times unless changing gears....how did you take this picture? At 80KM/h none the less haha anyway to the task at hand so the needle isn't loose is it? When you turn does it swing? Does it even move when you rev? When did it first start/notice it?

Don't worry i waited til i was on a straight piece of road.

It's been happening on and off for a year. It can go for months without doing it.

When it sits on zero i can normally get it going again by tapping the top of the dash, but

when it points down i have to wait til it fixes itself.

I've pulled the cluster out and checked the connections, nothing seems loose.

shouldnt rev your car over 10,000rpm, its not good for the engine

+next time you have it apart, dont just check them, clean the connections with contact cleaner and maybe a bit of a rub

failing that, its still a wiring problem somewhere. good luck

Probably a good idea to use a seperate rev counter to work out if its your tacho or the signal thats the problem.
