Hi Guys,

I am looking for an alternative to the NRMA on site vehicle inspection as NRMA no longer go to the house or place that you are purchasing the car from.

Has anyone had any experience from using other on site vehicle inspectors and can anyone recommend any? I'm obviously looking for a detailed inspection.

My only other option is to take it to a mechanic or NRMA Motorserve, but that means driving the car to an inspection station which I dont want to do for many reasons.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

D

Andy, i'm also getting a check for a stagea. Were you with the guy when he was doing the check. Did he seem to really know what to check for on an import..esp rust prone area's etc? How much for roadcheck?

I rang state roads and they seem good, and at $210 its not bad.

Cheers

Daniel

Daniel, not sure if you're looking for a C34, but I created a buyers' guide a few years back - it can be accessed here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Bu...n-C-t92065.html

if you're looking for an M35, the information is slowly gathering for that model too, and the Stagea section is building with contributions from Andy and quite a few others. Post a question up there, if you want: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St...ussion-f82.html

Hi there,

I can highly recomend a good mate of mine Robert from TUNEEXPRESS contact: 0414 23 66 99, he is mobile and he will do it much cheaper than State roads not mention you can rely on his report.

Also he will point out things that are not to hard to fix but good barganing tool.

Just mention that I've sent you and that you are from SAU;

Good luck

Hi Daniel

The cost was $229, I wasn't there with him but as the car I bought was only 4 year old I wasn't really worried about rust. I don't think they are exprts in imported cars but they did seem to do a reasonably thorough inspection.

If other specialize in imports I would go with them.

I have heard MANY MANY good things about State Roads.

I've been suprised at the detail of things that they pick up.

Sure they pick up obvious things like - the standard radio has been replaced with non standard, tyres are bald, wiper blades need replacing etc. BUT they pick up important things that you might miss yourself.

e.g. on 2 occassions (out of about 20 inspections that i've seen) the State Roads Guy pointed out that the chassis rail had been restitched. Sure, in my opinion, it was more likely that the chassis rail was replaced because it had been busted or hit or crushed by a forklift in Japan. This is because upon passing this message onto the owners, the interior was removed and carpet lifted and inside the car was untouched. Their opinion was that there was the possibility that the car was a cut and shut - But it is still somethign that is nice to have pointed out BEFORE you buy the car, not after.

Having said that, I've never actually bought a car in Australia (always imported my own). But I have seen many inspections of performance cars by State Roads (I've gone along to give opinions on the reports).

Hi guys thanks for the replys;

It was for a c34 stagea. Im not going ahead with that car anymore as negotiations came to a halt and the buyer scared me off by not providing vin chassis numbers for revs check.

I think I will be going with state roads as it seems very popular.

I wonder if you can pay them more to do a compression test?

Sure can.

They do a "Balanced Compression Test" i think as part of the package, which just says yep compression is fine, or no it isn't.

For my GTR I got them to do an individual test on each cylinder and to provide the readings. Bit extra, but they will do it.

You can also ask them to check anything you like, short of disasembling the car/engine to do so.

Have used them twice, and am yet to pick up something on a car that they didn't.

Sounds good.
