My GTR is in need of an engine rebuild and has been sitting in a work shop for months so far engine piping is off and thats all.

This guy is charging $750 for remove and refit of the engine. Any one know where I can get this done at a similar price as im thinking i might just ship the engine over to Dirt Garage for the build so it actually gets done.

Dirt Garage quoted 7k for the rebuild the others were all 10k+ for the exact same build so will 100% be sending it over east.

Any idea on how much it will cost for the remove and refit i've heard they were all charging $2500?

2.5k sounds rather excessive when I got quoted $800 to remove/refit the engine in my old lady's 911.

I've done many engine in/outs on skylines and skyline powered vehicles and it is nowhere near as hard as the stupid complex German car.

You can get a brand new motor for around $12,000 as per the photo in Perth which would have to be better then spending $10,000 on a rebuild of a 15 year old motor, even at $7,000 plus freight it would be worth looking at stretching the budget for a new one.

The $7000 engine he will be getting will be much better than the one shown and its almost double the price. Its still got cast pistons, stock rods, stock crank, stock head, head gasket etc. Ill grant it does have the N1 block and pumps...but not much else. N1 crate engines are good in a street car at low boost levels but not the option to go if you want to make decent power.

$1500 is what i charge to R & R the engine...so use that as a guide...$2500 even at a rate of $100 an hour is 25hrs labour to do an R & R...they either have no idea what they are doing or no morals by ripping you off.

If it were me i would be taking it to Dirtgarage

Have a search and see his work, that many people on these forums get this guy to rebuild their engines. They seem to be very happy campers from what i have read.

Good work buddy the day i need a rebuild i know where i want it done.

no offence dude but a GTR engine removale is a sh*tload more complex than a simple gtst removal with the front driveshafts and all the other bulky bits attached, theres a good few hours in it each way.

pattygtst i think your forgeting something, Paul is in newcastle sydney. Crans started the topic on removal/refit

there are plenty of more than competant shops in perth.. tenagah, ovaboost,x speed, all star, hyperdrive.. just to name a few.

i removed the rb26 from my gtr in 4 hours and thats on the floor in a 2 car garage with no hoist, a workshop shouldnt take any longer as they got the hoist and that makes life alot easier. As adam said the 4wd side of things adds abit of extra work but not too much really.

I would offer a hand myself but i am in the middle of a couple of builds at the moment

Our record is 1 and 1/2 hours... but the race car is a little easier than a stocker and we use a hoist for the car and a forklift with a sling for the engine. :)

if crans fly's me over ill do it for $2500 :D

Dude, I know this - done the 30 in and out of the gts4 :D

Should be able to get return flights for under $400.. take that off the 2.5k, $50/night motel room, 1.5k for the r&r and you should still have some cash left to take DirtGarage to the strippers and get him pissed :D

  • 2 weeks later...

OK Car is comming back home Monday yay

And i just purchased a second hand engine with HKS 2510 turbos on it.

Gonna do an engine swap and then start building a 3L.

Will use the old head for my drift project or just sell it as a rebuilder

    • Had a chat to Tony Mamo - he advised that looking at the graph's shape (regardless of number translation) it shouldn't be levelling off like that up top. He said it looks like the car is running a restrictor plate or something of that nature. Luckily the last dyno pull on E85 was saved to the PC - So I did a quick trace of Barometric KPA vs Intake manifold pressure, and lo and behold I see a copy of the 'waves' I was seeing on the dyno: I'm not entirely sure how to go about addressing this. It may be worth sacrificing IAT to run a more direct intake for the motor. Though packaging this could be flat out impossible given the constraints of the car. I should have removed the intake pipe to see if this made a difference but looking at this graph I now have something to potentially test in the future and think about. This one is from an old track day log in the OLD setup going through gears on track.
    • Oh, I forgot too, all the multimedia stuff captured and sold through things like people playing Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go specifically, can actually be traced all the way back to a CIA investment company too. So yep, they're watching everything. Not to mention the new stuff where they've worked out how to use WiFi signals to be able to map occupants inside of a building. That one would be something that I see being more used in public/government buildings, as you need to understand the signals when the room has no one in it first. It's not as easy as Hollywood would like you to think it is.
    • Followed ☺️ Assuming those are NEO rods, then at least 400kW all day.
    • Lets keep this going , Spotted this very stock V35 in Penrith and also saw a nice R32 FLY past me on Castlereagh rd , sounded really good.
    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
