Sorry in advance if i sound like a whiney bitch.

but over the last 7-8 years of being a member of a ton of car forums, i have grown tired of a little handful of thing.

1. When a question is asked, the thread goes 4 pages and is never once answered straightly because no one can say "i dont know" or better yet not poast at all.

EXAMPLE: My HICAS is broken, how do i diagnose and fix it?

4 pages of answers: "hicas? i took mine out" / "hicas sucks" / "hicas makes your car squirrely when drifting, take it out" and my favorite "search"

2. The age-old "search" guy. no one can say "i dont know" so they say the direct translation. "search".

EXAMPLE: Whats the output voltage of your stock fuel pump?

first answer "SEARCH" (6 keystrokes)

second answer "12.2" (4 keystrokes)

hmmmmm

3. Assholes.

Example: "does anyone know how much boost teh R33 gtst makes stock?"

answer: "yes"

i see this a one a TON lately. whats the point? up your post count? feel cool?

all i am saying is, there was a magical, mystical, fairy-tale like time, back in 98-00 when a question could be asked, and answered. those days are long gone. join "nico" and youll pull your hair out in 3 minutes.

People say use the search button so often because thats what its there for. You wouldn't believe how many times certain questions are asked on the forums. The goal of searching is so people can find the information without cluttering up the whole forum with hundreds of the same question.

HAHA I agree with you on some of those, I have had a few answers like that. The UK forums seem to be the best for answering tech questions with straight answers, well IMO anyways. Here is good too, but with so many members there are bound to be a bunch of tossers and young guns trying to prove their manly hood and spending an entire night to think of something funny to say about the OP.

You kind of expect the smart asses and "flamage" these days. I remember a forum I was on for my Mazda in the UK, bloody awesome wealth of info and they didn't care if you drove a mazda or a nissan or a bloody Smart car! they would do their best to help you out. After all an engine is an engine and they all run reletively the same.

yes but if people used the search function once in a while they wouldn't have to post up questions that have already been answered. Also it's not hard to tell if someone is talking through there ass while answering a thread..... i'm doing it right now lol...

edit: kessian said it before me lol, i'mm too slow

The HICAS, I don't think is the best example, its known to cause issues so most people are better off removing it :D

Search, I do that all the time, if its been covered several times well, and people can't do any research, then they shouldn't be posting.

Not everyone has *all* the answers but they may well know they have seen the answer on the forum before and you just haven't searched for it.

Exactly. Chances are the question has already been answered, and if people weren't too f**king lazy to pull their finger out and search for enquiries instead of expecting to be spoon fed the answer like a baby then the other members of the community wouldn't get the shits. Seeing the same stupid questions being asked over and over again, making the forum feel stale because there's nothing new to read.

Feel free to add that to the list of gripes.

Oh, also add apologists for sticking up for people who do the wrong thing. Coddling people who make mistakes instead of telling them the correct procedure just propagates mistakes instead of fixing them.

LOL time to hang up your coat then? don't come on if its not doing it for ya.. and things that piss me off is the lazy shits that don't search when it's been asked..

oh IBTL

misinformation is the one that gets to me.

you get people answering questions, in great depth, with incorrect information they got from fark knows where, and unfortunately, the person who asked the question has no idea they are being fed a load of bs. then a few more readers, with little to no idea, read the misinfo, and pass it on again at another stage.

my suggestion is, if you see this going on, BITCHSLAP THE OFFENDER, preferably in caps, and then rectify the problem by giving the correct info.

as far as search goes, i think you'll find that a high percentage of readers know the answer to your question because it has been answered so many times before. and they are all thinking the same thing. SEARCH!

in this case, i usually give a short answer, and/or a link to one of the many threads where this has been covered. as does NISMOID the search nazi :) . its the right thing to do

Yea, Honda-tech is really bad about this. We call it regurgitation. second hand information. i.e. "this camshaft works great in this motor" (they have never owned the motor, or the camshaft, let alone dyno'd the set up)

Be more specific in your questions, and seek more specific answers.

You can't expect a question like "My HICAS is broken, how do i diagnose and fix it?"

it's like saying.........i've got itchy balls, what should I do?

people are going to tell you to scratch them...........unless you own up and let them know that you rooted some slag that has syphilis

i totally agree with tony. we are constantly talking about the amount of useless, incorrect info on this forum. and the problem is that we are at a stage where if you try and correct them, so many people are misinformed that no-one believes you because the majority of people will say it is worng.

my favourite is the age old repsonse to a missfire. rich and retard. i have seen people post up saying that they have a missfire and hidden in a big list of mods will be an aftermarket ecu and you will still get a handfull of people say rich and retard. 99% of people have never had rich and retard happen so don't know what it actually feels like, but since they were told that their missfire was rich and retard they then tell everyone else that their problem is rich and retard.

the other is the people that say that you won't gain any power by running a stock turbo above 12 or 13psi. how many of them have actually tried it? none. they are just taking the word of others who also haven't tried it. but because every other member says that it is true it must be. or the old "high reading dyno" comment (usually used when someone makes over 200kw from a stock turbo'd r33). i'm sorry, but just because your car won't make that much power, doesn't mean that other people can't make theirs make that much power by tweaking a few things.

actually no, i stand corrected, this is my favourite. people who bag out lancers for having evo bodykits and 'ricer' exhausts. yet this somehow seems to only be a problem when lancer drivers do it. natro skyline owners can do the same thing an it is fine. but it is the same thing. both people are getting the base model car and trying to make it look like it's turbo'd big brother.

/rant

As one of the people that answers a lot of questions, I am sick of the same shit coming up. It's been asked, it's f**ken easy to find if you just do a search.

What is the stock 33 boost?

Why does my gauge say I'm running 4-5 psi?

A light isn't working somewhere.

I'm not about to write an article on all the possible causes of, probably fixes to and ramifcations of untreatment of 'the problem'.

This forum has been around for a long time, so have these cars. The basic information is already there.

This forum is 100x better than most,

lost of very knowledgeable people, and lots of other people who have learnt a great deal from the aforementioned people, and try to pass on that knowledge as best they can

most posters are clear if they are 100% sure on an answer or if they are just having an educated guess, do with the advice what you will

its not hard to pick an answer from a seasoned engine builder, an engineer, a person with some idea, or an idiot

my only problem (other than people not searching and researching for themselves) is people posting topics like "help urgent" or "big problem" how the hell are people supposed to look into these topics in a month or two while searching for an answer to their problem.

people search for, things like "fuel pump" "afr" "ignition brakedown" not "help" or "urgent". topics should be given appropraite names to make searching easier...luckily most people do this

Actually the thing that annoys me most is when people do help out, do answer questions & then the original poster cbf'd making the effort to confirm the suggested fix worked or otherwise. Leaving the poor bloke searching the thread at a later stage none the wiser.

Yeah faken hate that.

Ahhhh have a whinge

People are stupid, it may have taken awhile for this to become apparent to you....but now it has it's time to accept & deal with it.

Mis-information (bad advice) is rife, why? because those that know their ass's from their elbows got fed up with arguing with tools long ago.

This thread is extremely un-Australian in it's nature and blatantly divisive...dun like

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
