Hey all!

I live in the western suburbs and recently filled my tank up (42 odd litres) of BP Ultimate, i then noticed as soon as i drove it for a while something wasn't right!

The car was idling not necessarily rough but out of tune, turning it on was also a struggle as it would stall or want to..

A few of my friends have had the same problem in recent weeks (1 has a TT the other 2 have A single)

So have decided to steer clear from the fuel all together and contemplating changing to Mobil 98..

I know it might have been covered before, although with the ever changing supply of various fuels i just wanted to know what 98+ RON is available to us locally and what you guys find gives you the best performance and millage!

Also if you have experienced any horror stories yourself please share :)

Haha that was primarily what I created the survey for! (Down there) But uh, have you been on BP ultimate for awhile now or do you just take whats available? Have you considered V-Power? Has anyone tried that octane booster stuff? Maybe you can try that if 98+ is limited in your area

lol never just take whats available always a preference :) (its a skyline man)

V-Power no i want to try V-Power Racing but dunno where i can find it?

As for the octane boosters most of them raise ur octane by 4 points which is .4 Octacne. You can find some others which will raise it by 2 Octane but i rekon its just a waste of money..

bp ultimate/vortex 98 is what i use, never had a problem

your car must have the gheys :)

i know my car and its not my car!

I had some of the fuel tested and it confirmed it AND it has happened to some of my mates with the exact same servos fuel at the same time period (last few weeks)

so looks like you have "the gheys :D "

kthx

you probably just filled up after the tanker left perhaps?

if the fuel has been tested, take it to BP with the results and get a refund and ask em for free stuff or you'll go to the papers

Let us know how you go... or... scan the test and post it up

Sounds a lot like you picked up a crap batch of fuel. More than likely the tight ass servo running his tanks very low so you would have picked up all the Shite at the bottom.. I wouldnt right off BP ultimate...But I would right off that particular servo...

every servo has a bad batch of fuel every now and then

i think there is jack all difference between the various brands of 98

ive tried several and no noticable difference

youll also note some brands share fuel and resources

ie: shell arent in vic, or bp arent in syd and so on

so they can and do share storage, trucks etc

damn ross which servo was it? taylors lakes one or the one at the entrance of caroline springs on the western? i never go to the taylors lakes one anymore jsut cause they are always higher in price all the time and seem abit dodgy.

with bp ultimate i can surely get 450kms out of my tank (r32 gtst) and i'll probably have another 5-10L of fuel left. V-power gives me about 420kms almost at empty. Vortex is probably the same. So for me saving 4 cents a liter doesn't really matter.

give mobil a try man and see how u go or jsut don't go to the same bp servo.

The only Shell that I know of that still sells V-Power Racing is in Ashburton on High Street. Its always 169.9 liter. I spoke to the servo attendant and they will no longer stock it within 2 months.

I honestly believe it is a far superior fuel to the 98 RON varieties. The car runs smoother with no knock when thrashing the car. The other 98 RON fuels seem to be very similar with no noticeable difference between them (unless you cop a bad batch)

Yer shame about the V-Power racing heard it was finishing up a while ago :D

I think united still has 100 RON although its united lol.. Not many people like it.

I found my car ran alot smoother on V-Power although it had crappy fuel economy, when changing over to ultimate i could feel it wasent running quite aswell although i did get better kms :S

From what people have said and what is recommended i will be going with Mobil One from now on as i havent heard many problems relating to their 98

The other one i was contemplating was Caltex Vortex but i have heard quite a few bad things bout this place.

At the end of the day but its personal preference i believe 98 is 98, im just a sucker for branding haha!

Nah Jake its the one on Melton Hwy, between Kings Road and Sunshine ave.... I always thought they where empty because prices where too high but after this experience..

i cannot understand how a brand of fuel can vary your economy by 30kms

your driving patterns and how the car performs are far more likely to affect your given economy vs a specific brand of 98 fuel

i just cant see how BP vs Castrol or Ultimvate vs Mobil will make difference to economy, in the magnatude of 30-40kms

Personally from my experience it depends on where the servo is located. I noticed the inner city suburbs tend to have better fuels.

I have no hard evidence to prove it, but i do notice the car tends to run smoother and have a little bit more urge when I fill up at the inner city servos. :S

    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
