I'm in the process of rebuilding right now and searched and found everyone recommends 26 rods into the 25 as a cheap upgrade.

There seems to be alot of people runnin up to 280-300kw on stock internals with out any rod damage, so my question is: how much a stock rb25 rod can really handle?

An if anyone has broken or bent one pls state at what power an rpm levels.

The reason being i dont have acess to any used 26 rods an im only aiming for 260kw.

I think Sydneykid quoted somewhere here that it was the rod bolts that were more proned to damage rather than the rods themselves.

for anything under 280rwkw the stock bottom end is fine. IF you have the engine appart and are rebuilding DONT even worry about forged pistsons.

Use the stock pistons, stock conrods. and use a decent set of ARP rod bolts and you will be fine anywhere up to about 300rwkw.

Upgrading ANY other parts internaly for less then 300rwkw is just a waste of money, and if you want to waste money I can show you a way to do that. I will send you my bank account details :)

Im an advocate of stock RB26 rods...as im yet to see a rod fail due to its lack of strength...its always something else that causes the rod to fail.

RB25's would be in the same boat...but not as good as the 26 rods.

put some ARP's in the stockers and they will be fine...i ran stock rods in my RB26 and they were good as gold when measured up when i pulled the engine down and the engine was making 450+AWKW and was punished at the track regularly.

u can buy spool rods for the same price as gtr rods nowadays man.

spool rods are only about 600ish man.

if u do a cheap job, be prepared to come back to it.

you can pick GTR rods up for $150 a set

600>150

i built and raced an engine for 4 years using all Nissan parts except pistons and camshafts

its not how much $$ you spend...its how its screwed together

Single Apexi RX-6 turbo on mildly tuned RB25. Tomei rod bolts, 7750 RPM limit. Admitedly engine had done a LOT of track days, but never over revved. looks like bolt failure, but the engine I am building to replace it will have either RB26 rods or Carillo / Tomei in it.

Expensive...

You wont find many

1. Usually its the rings that go first

2. While the motors are apart, most people either upgrade them to RB26 or aftermarket

Hence its gonna be hard to find a pushed RB25 rod. Only a couple of instances of it

I bent an RB25 conrod, the engine was making around 210-220rwkw at the time. I only noticed it as it was making a slight ticking noise as the piston was hitting the oil squirter due to the reduced rod length.

When the engine was pulled down the bigend bearings were ok and the rest of the motor was ok only a sligthly bent number 1 rod.

I still have it hanging on the wll in the shed if anyone wants pics.
