So im going to change the ECU in my car and this should be happening within the next week. Before I go speaking to mechanics just like to get some first hand advice.

So the cars Automatic, what types of ECU's are out there that will work well with an Automatic, would rather an ECU I dont need to replace the AFM with like a haltech but does the e11v2 do automatics?

Im looking at spending between 1500 - 2500.

I've got an auto. I ended up going nistune remap... that offers almost everything powerfc offers. Was around the $600 installed and dynotuned. Hope that helps.

The gearbox shift-logic is built into the ECU, remap/piggy back is the only choice.

99.9% sure a wolf v500 will do it. i know my mechanic was doing it on a soarer and remember him telling me it will do auto shifts etc.

plus it's one hell of a feature packed ecu for the price

if your looking at spending that much money .. tell them to give you 2 for one.. and ill have one for my engine :P

HAHA chances are if I get it done at my dads old mechanic at waycol I could prob get 2 for one done.

SITC/SAFC COmbination for ignition and fuel adjustments - or an alternative piggyback (The Greddy Emanage ultimate has an auto mode.)

SITC/SAFC combo is better for the auto due to them altering input connections before the auto logic is applied to the revised load/engine parameters. My understanding is that the Emanage and other units alter the outgoing data and so are applied after the auto shift logicis implimented...

There has been known to be a mod to allow a PowerFC running an auto in R33 - but i hear that like the emanage - it is bad for the auto as it is applied AFTER the shift logic of the stock FC is applied... or something to that effect. Definately need an upgraded auto box to run it for an extended time because it's not sympathetic to the auto needs or load distributions etc etc.. meh...

SK wrote a really good post on this at one point (I think it was in the stagea section) about the same time as He was experiementing with Jaycar AFC and ITC's for his stagea. Do a search and you should find it.

Hi Sammy34,

A HKS F Con V Pro will control your engine and not effect the control of the gearbox! It is a full stand alone management system which has a range upgrades available!

Pm me if you would like some more info!

Regards Andrew

hmmm if the hks f con v pro won't affect it does it have the capability to handle the auto. because from what i understand is isn't running a seperate ecu for the auto. so unless the f con v can control the auto how will it work.

just curios

Power FC can run in the R33 Autos as the shift computer *isn't* built into the ECU, when you put the PFC in the shift ECU just picks up the signal as usual.

R34's are different and have the shift controls integral to the main ECU, so when a mechanic tells you an ECU will be OK, get him to put it on paper so when the car is stuck in 3rd gear and won't shift you don't have to worry about the whack of cash you just wasted.

The shift ECU in the R34 has it's own set of maps that control shifts, as long as your base timing is 15 - 20 degrees after tuning (which it should be) the shifting logic works just fine and the car will shift like factory when you just do a ROM tune.

Unlike a Apexi Power FC which replaces the factory ecu a HKS F Con V Pro uses a patch harness and retains the factory ecu. Engine warning light for fault codes, air conditioning control and gearbox control still all remain as per factory intended.

The F Con also can retain the airflow meter or be run in D Jetro mode with a optional map sensor. It has numerous fuel and ignition compensation maps and the ability to retard the timing if knock is detected while using a HKS A/F Knock Amp.

Yep that's right, it's a piggy-back that ~2 places in the country can tune.

Just get the ROM remapped, it's more than sufficient for any car and can handle the biggest of changes with simple retune ie, injectors, AFM, turbo swaps, fuel pumps etc et.....I'm on about 230rwkw and my car idles/shifts/drives like stock (but faster) the ROM cost me $200 and I hired a dyno a tuned the car myself for $300 :P

so it's a piggy back? i guess i have a different meaning for "full stand alone ecu" all makes sence now though. my wolf drives like factory too. but it has all idle up features for air con etc. can't recomend it enough. but it does sound like a remap of the factory comp might be a good idea for you.

all i can say is selling much?

I was a little sceptical until I saw in it the metal! They use the patch harness so the car still functions like it did factory. You can purchase a HKS F Con V Pro with a universal wiring harness if you desire. They have been installed on the likes of Porsche's and other Euro vehicles that they don't supply a harness for. Have a look at the spec sheet -

There are 3 HKS Pro Dealers / PowerWriters in Queensland now - Advanced Performance Centre, Gavin Wood Autotech and GT Auto Garage. Croydon Racing Developements in NSW plus another in VIC and WA!

So you are saying this can work with my R33 auto? How much is it?

A power FC can run in an R33 auto, there are a few forum mebers that have put it in, it's plug n play as the shift ECU just takes inputs from speed sensors and rpm and is pre-determined to shift.

Hi Dan, thanks for the input. I think you are taking the piss, i have always been told Power fc is no good for auto's. Could it really be true? If so i just became very happy. Please explain in more detail if you don't mind. Thanks.

Why would I take the piss? There's too much bullshit being told on SAU already-

My advice, contact 4door_sleeper it worked first go with his car, maybe get the exact model of PFC he used. Craz0 had some luck, but the auto ECU wasn't getting the TPS signal, that would be a 5 second job to link on the PFC side though (if that was his drama, he had issues with the Wolf working also)

My opinion is link the TPS and Tacho signal to be on the safe side, should just fire up and go.

and read these-

So the guys for NSW have changed from Tunehouse to CRD? Wow that didn't take long... a month or 2 ago you were full plugging Tunehouse as the place to go to, why not now? Or did you just forget to mention them?

EDIT: Actually scratch the above... you're not Martin from HKS - I'll neglect what you've just said.
