Hey everyone!

Im 17 and will soon be on my p's. I really want to get a Skyline but unfortunately I have no clue about them! Im liking the look of the Nissan Skyline R34 GTR (although if people have suggestions on better looking/better performance Skylines PLEASE TELL). It seems to be the most classic looking skyline, like the one driven in 2fast2furious. I was just wondering if people could point me in the direction of the best looking, best performance one out there and what year its made (I want it to have a turbo and be manual transmission) and also the things to look for for and the things to look out for (im pretty much clueless on skylines, just love the look of them and ive heard they are such an AWESOME car). Also, what price range are they in?

This would be SUCH a big help as I am completely clueless on Nissan Skylines and I am eager to join the ranks of all you Skyline lovers out there! I just want to get the best performance and the best look I can! :( WOOT

hey man,

Whats your budget cos an r34 gtr is not a cheap car. You would know that there are 3 'true' skyline models R32 R33 and R34.

Use the search to check out there specs cos there is heaps to know.

For your first car id suggest an r32 gts-t comes with a 2litre turbo engine and manual; good one for around 10,000 and budget for maintenance as well.

Im 17 and will soon be on my p's.

i aggre with johnny. because your "just" getting your p's, i suggest a r32 and even though you want a turbo you wont be able to drive it depending on which area you live in.

also with turbo on your ps at 17 insurance will be quite expencive and honestly getting a turbo for your first car isnt realistic, unless you have experience driving.

goodluck. post pics when you decide what your looking for and if its the r34 gtr that you are looking for, you can always spend a bit of cash on a conversion bodykit.

Hey thanks for the replys keep em coming!

See, the thing is I always want to get the best thing because I don't see the point in uprgrading 2 or so years later. Im pretty keen on getting the R34 GTR turbo manual, so could anyone tell me the aprox how much I would be paying? Would be a big help.

Also, when you say, "Use the search to check out there specs cos there is heaps to know.", im kinda new to this website so could someone direct me?

Cheers heaps!

Hey man. If you want to get an R34 GTR for your first car, you better be rich. Or your parents better be rich. Its an expensive car and it will cost you a fortune to insure at your age. Never mind just buying it in the first place. On top of that, getting a car with this kind of performance is not the best idea when you're just getting your license. I'm not trying to make a character judgement or saying that you're a bad driver, but you are not experienced enough to handle something with that kind of power.

As some of the others have said. If you're really keen on a skyline then get an R32 gtst or even an R33 gtst. You can learn a lot from these before upgrading later. I went from an R33 to an R34, and I'm really glad I did. I learned a lot from my R33 and I knew exactly what to look for and what I want with my R34 now.

i agree with niszila

either u r rich or ur parents are

insurance will easily be over 4k i reckon specially bein a 17 yo

price of a r34 gtr woudl be in the range of say betwen 40k (if ur lucky to find one at that ) n 60k

but i wouldn't recomend u go for the 34 seein as ur just jumpin on ur p's

i dun wanan jump to conclusions but with taht kinda power i'm not sure if u'll have the experience to handle a car like that

yes they do look good n they feel great to drive but i think u 'll need to know a bit about how the car works and everythign before u amke decisions

i jumped from non turbo to turbo n i'm still learnin up to this day

but yeah i'd say a r32 gtst or r33 gtst would be a good start

not as high powered n yet u can get use to the feel of a turbo car b4 u jump into the serious part of the cake

ma 2c

gdluck

Heyyy,

Woah didn;t know they were that pricey! Definetly will not get one for the first car! lol. The R32 and R33 gts-t look gd and by what you guys have been saying will probably be a smarter choice. What are the main differences between the R32 and R33 gts-t and what years are they made?

I would suggest before you go any further, do some research. You want to have some idea of what you're getting into and at this stage, but your own admission, you know nothing.

The R32 was produced in late 80's through to early 90's. R33 was produced early 90's to late 90's. The R32 is 2 litre and R33 is 2.5 litre. There is so much info I can give its just not funny. The thing is you need to look it up. Look through the forum. There is a search button at the top of the page that will help. Also look through google for info and go to carsales to get an idea on prices. Know what you're getting into. If you're buying one of these cars, and expecially if you're modding it, its an expensive game. Know what you're getting into.

ONLY TRUE SKYLINE??????? WHAT ABOUT AN R31.. For some one new yo the game these are cheap, easy to drive and great to learn your limits with out doing 300k's an hour. i think you should have a bit of experience befor you get in to a turbo 32 or 33, or u maybe paying of a car you have written off....not a good thing! :P

I know at 17 i thought i knew how to drive :( ... but 10 years down the track has taught me i had no idea. but in the end you will learn....remember no one is invinsible.

Yeh thats probably a good idea. I will search it up on google. Btw, I was looking on carsales, is the HR32 GTS-T and the HR33 GTS-T the ones you were suggesting?

No... you want the ECR33 for R33 and ER32 for R32's

The H's are 4 doors from memory. I don't know. Its late and I'm not thinking right haha

nah the H's are for the 2L RB20DE or RB20DET

anyway I quote from 'The Castle' when I say "Tell him he's dreaming"

your most probable car if you were to get a skyline is a non-turbo R32/R33/R34

and the prices are like around 8k/10K/16K respectively

you'd also need to set aside 2K for compo if you were to get it

good luck :P

Id recommend a series 2 (post 97 model) r33 gts skyline as the engine is quite nice to drive everyday in traffic and goes quite nice.

I owned one when i was 17 as well and it never had a single problem with 30,000kms of thrashing.

probably get one for 12k in great condition.

you'd get a decent turbo R33 for 12k...

try www.autospeed.com.au and searching for various model skylines on there, to at least gain a little bit of background knowledge.

One other thing, any grey import car is going to generally cost a fair bit more in maintenence and parts than a car sold in a dealer here, so bear that in mind.
