Trying To Identify Object Under The Dash.

I am hoping that somebody can tell me what this object is that was under the dash clipped onto the passenger side kick panel. It appears to have had an orange lid.

I have looked through the owners manuals, both the original Japanese one and the Aussie one supplied when complied, also the entire workshop manual but cant seem to find out what it is.

Its just another of the many things that went missing out of my car on its way to me from Japan.

In case it helps the car is an R32 GTR.

it would have been the flare that I believe are mandatory to have in a car in Japan. I imagine they have to pull them out when they come over, but a mate managed to scrounge a few from an import wreckers in Adelaide.

Yeah its a flare they use to signal highway traffic when they are pulled over to the side; it also provides light for changing the tyre.

now in europe they supply a reflector either inside the bootlid, a single rear parker light which stays on or a portable stand reflector.

oh and a majority of cars have their bonnet release on the passenger side to prevent you from havaing to face oncomming traffic.

Well if its a flare then it all makes sense why its not there anymore.

That one I can go with for a number of reasons.

Unbolting and taking my strut brace is a whole different story...

Actually the majority of European cars have them on the left hand side because usually the manufacturer can't be bothered reconfiguring it for RHD cars - after all, you still have to get out the driver's door

The flares are all removed before they leave Japan, because they're considered a fire hazard by the shipping companies....

Depends on the shipping company, when it was imported, how slack the person removing them was on the day, etc....

This is on a landrover discovery 3 which is british and RHD but then again where are they made now; i heard india??

I had my flare in my r33 gts-4 back in 2001; i had some fun with that lolz.

Yeah thats one of the 149 pics I got of the car in Japan.

Was actually pulling the kick panel out to check the ECU and sort out a rattle when I found the clips on it which reminded me of the pic with the orange thing in it. I figured it was something like a flare but after the other stuff had been taken I thought I may as well ask the question.

dunno about that. none of the cars i've imported/exported had the flares removed for shipping? a lot of compliers remove them but I haven't ever seen them removed in japan.

Hmmm...may just be the guys at the docks in Kobe?? Either way, they're never in the car when they land here. Whoever's doing it, it would be one hell of a party if the ones collected were all set off at the same time.
