note- looks like rust is on the water/oil pumps and the timing belt bearings, which will be replaced with tomei/n1 items...

is it too far gone?

and are they forgies?

engine kinda fell into my lap

digits on pistons are:RA9603X 0.50

RIB 0.10 SB

Those part numbers are from an ACL Race Series forged piston. They are 20thou oversize. Being an RB26, they will actually be a ROSS Piston. If you look on the under side of them straight under the gudgeon pin, you will notice the ROSS brand has been CNC machined off them.

Engine also looks to be R33 GTR or could be N1, check for markings on the block as I can't read them properly on the side from your photos.

The rust will be ok, just have it cleaned properly. Make sure you have the piston to bore clearance checked when you disassemble it to make sure it will be a good engine when you are finished

u are f**king beautiful. i LOVE U!!!!!

the dude gave it to me as a rb25, are u 100% sure its a rb26 ??!?!!?

in that case, i will look out for an rb30 head :P

Sure looks like an RB25 block to me, no provision for rear turbo drain, different head gasket pattern. Not familiar enough with an RB30 to say if the block could be that. At .50 mm oversize and with rusty bores you should still be able to rebore it and be safe. The block needs a deck skim, too, to clean the head face surface up.

You are actually correct Chris. It is an RB25. I just looked up the part number on the ACL website. The part number of the piston is RB25DET but the block has the provision for the alloy sump with front diff so I'd say it's out of a GTS4. Sorry to get you xcited Cruiser :P

why put an RB30 head on it? they are SOHC. it will be a 2.5litre SOHC nugget.

to me it looks fairly fked. look at the rust on the timing belt gear and how corroded the oil pump is. I'm sure you can save it but it will take some work and money. in the end you probably wont save a lot over just rebuilding a better health RB25 to start with and you may end up spending just as much for an engine that has second hand gear in it. considering it's been outside with no sump on it for a fair while expect the crank to be rusted up nicely too. also check the pistons well, at least one has a nice little chip out of it that will make a hotspot. it's good for free, but just a shame it wasn't looked after. see if you can find out why it was pulled from a car and dissasembled in the first place. it's not normal for people to pull out a perfectly good motor for no reason.

in that case, i will look out for an rb30 head :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

PS that engine needs full strip, hot tank, deck and most likely all the internals will need hot tanking and so forth (new rings, prolly rusted). Its a fair clunker but if you got it cheap and the rings are cheap good find.

lol cheers dano... nfi why i said rb30 head :|.

yea consulted my mechanic.

of course its going to be stripped, chemically bathed, inspected, machined, honed etc etc. he 100% assures me it will be perfect. and he has his work to back that up

your are stupid for even thinking about NOT doing that!!

URAS mate, it was free, u believe that :(:D :D. so saves me about 2-3g's easy

thanks for all your help.

closer inspection of code: 08U, makes it a 25.

thanks again
