Hey mate,

Thats great, how did you get it to work?

The one on my r34 is completely dead, and I cant read Japanese but have pressed all the buttons anyway hoping for some life...but nothing.

Did you get the sat nav and tv going or are you only using it for playing cd/dvd's.

Cheers

David.

In the situation you appear to be in - where the unit is dead and you are in Sydney where no-one provides a real repair or work-around solution like Chris Rogers does in Brisbane you seem to have 2 main options, just do all the basic checks that the connectors etc are all connected as they should be, and if that doesn't reveal an easily fixable problem consider the options provided by Chris Rogers' to get some screen functionality - better to contact him direct.

thanks mate

Appreciate the help

bear in mind if you have a blue screen then theres not a lot I can do over the phone. yes I can use the screen and make it move but it will take cusotm electronics to do it and if you are in another city its probably not a good idea to ring me asking for a all in one DIY solution as a MLB person did today - best to PM/email me.

What puzzles me is the CD player screen is in english, yet every other function screen in the system has Japanese writing??? Why is this? and...can I reprogram it myself? Is there a hidden menu somewhere, that you need a special button sequence to unlock or something?

you can't have met many Japanese - lol - like English is second language taught at school and most younger people have reasonable command of basic english

the answers to your nest 2 questions are NO and No

:down::D:P

Nah haven't met too many Japanese poeple. But man I went to brisbane on friday and there are heaps of hot Japanese chicks in the city! lol.

Thanks for the heads up about the other two questions...That'll put that concern to rest.

my last advice is they are waiting for you to say hello -

cd not readable cd not present.

what discs are you using. these things do not really like burnt discs for some reason.

ylwgtr2,

beats me, I have no issue with the E50 El grand - same system..

Not burnt discs there are bought very clean non scratched discs, I think the lazer or deck in mine might be screwed unfortunately then, also there are 2 inputs/outputs on the TV control on the centre console, what are these, does anyone know?

video inputs (NTSC only) theres two inputs to that unit.

I must get around to working out what laser is acutally in these things.

Both are video? or ones video and ones audio I suspect, I haven't been able to get these working either.

Also I guess lazer cleaners are pretty much useless? am I correct in saying this?

ones audio and ones video....open up the case and solder on some rca's and you will be able to feed in an NTSC signal(beat having ugly rca's hanging out the face)...use a tuner box with a pal to ntsc coverter to get the telly working...you can also use an xbox switched over to ntsc to play movies/music vids/games ect...ive hidden the pick up for the remote controll inside the dash and an using a rf hand controller for the games....Its good fun when you waiting for someone just kick back and play a game :D...For GTR owners if you have the model with the in dash sat nav/cd player and the switch for the telly is on the dash controller as pictured in this thread....take the switch out of the xbox and it fits directly on the circuit board on the MFD!So drill out the blanked hole on the MFD(where the TV switch is on non sat nav/in dash cd player equipped cars) and solder on the switch and wire the xbox power switch through the original loom....ive done mine and you cant see anything at all...ANYWHERE :)

So if I took the deck in the link below to an audio place, they'd have no trouble installing this to work with the stock LCD?

I think I've got one that I took out of a non-functioning HU unit lying around somewhere - just an issue of if I can find it - will do a search in the next few days - will let you know if I find it and I will send it to you (no cost) if that is of use to you answering the question?

looks like it would work. hint: look in your boot passenger side rear corner. that will make things easier

KV2,

if you can find it toss it my direction. I've taken to fixing these things as some aren't too bad (cost wise) on parts.

Got the fold out display for GTT mine works absolutely fine and is running.

I havnt fiddled with it...only cd's work but im sure with rewiring and meddlign everything else works...audio on channel 7 even works lol!

I am fitting a 2001 GT-R MFD to my center dash so im not gonna need this screen and most likely the wiring aswell...does anyone know how much the thing costs to sell?

If anyone is interested in naming a price and maybe wants it?

Once i install the MFD im not exactly sure wether is hould get a new interface for CD/DVD considering all those buttons you see become quite redundant other than the cd input...

Anyone recon you can put guages there and flush it up if i remove the facia there?

If you're getting rid of the CD player, I'll take it :(

    • Thanks heaps Duncan and GTSBoy. I'll get my old man to sit in the driver's seat and turn it on and off while I test with the meter. Or maybe other way round, depending on whether he remembers where his glasses got to
    • This is the GTR fuel pump. Yellow shows 12V, orange shows earth. The ECU provides the earth to activate the fuel pump relay. The ECU side of teh relay will pull low when the ECU activates. This is the RB20 fuel pump. Almost the same, but a little simpler. You can see I indicated (above) where the 12V line goes down to the RB20 diagram on the overall diagram, whch shows both RB26 and RB20. This is where I show it coming in on the RB20 diagram below. You can see that the dropping resistor is handled differently. When the fuel pump control is not providing earth to the pump, the pump earths through the dropping resistor and thus runs at lower voltage (some is wasted over the resistor) and runs slower. I showed that "not 12V and not quite earth" portion of the wiring in a paler orange. The rest of the wiring that I did not colour on that little section below the pump would be orange when the fuel pump coontroller is providing earth. This drop is handled inside the fuel pump controller in the GTR. Regardless, you can see where 12V is supposed to be, where earth is supposed to be. The key on prime is via the ECU providing the pump for only a few seconds the switching off. You should be able to see that happen.
    • Yeah so when you turn key to IGN the fuel pump should run for a few seconds. If you find the fuel pump relay (and have a multimeter, and a second person) to can check the relay inputs.  One trigger pin should be either fully earthed  The other trigger pin should get 12v from the ECU for say 3 seconds when you turn key to IGN, and at all times that key is at START (note, I said this from memory, it may be the other way around, ie one pin always has IGN 12v and the earth has continuity to earth when you turn the key) One Pin should have a good battery voltage The last pin goes to the fuel pump + Also note that if the power to the relay is good, and the relay is working, it is worth checking the pump has a good earth too. There is a computer in the standard system that increases the earth resistance to slow down the pump when not required, pretty old school and it may have failed
    • All this talk about fuel and fancy ECUs, meanwhile my poor old R32 has neither.... When the ignition is turned on, should there be power running o the fuel pump constantly or just for the few seconds it usually takes to prime the pump? About to go have another look at it, have watched some YouTube vids on how to use a  multimeter and looked at some wiring diagrams but really have NFI what I'm looking for because electricity is invisible
    • Yuh....but weren't all the supertourers, except maybe the Audis, FWD? I don't recall any of the others being AWD.
