I am 50:50 at the moment in regards to a turbo upgrade.

I am planning on getting a turbo kit from extreme turbo manifolds for my r33 gtst 2.5l. Thats a gt3582, wastegate, dump, screamer (plumbedback, manifold, oil lines etc all ceramic coated.

Also upgrading to 740cc injectors, z32 and fuel pump to support the above. I already have the remaining needed mods.

This all installed, tuned etc will cost me roughly $7500. Will be an easy 280rwkw on low boost 300 on high, not going to push for more as internals are stock. With these mods 350 could be done.

I expected to have my current loan paid off by the end of next year. Then i could move on and save for house deposit etc. Obviously i will need to get the money loaned and its going to add roughly an extra 10 months to my debt. So i will be finished in roughly 22months rather then 12 without the turbo.

Everyone is telling me not to do it with the current economic state and you dont need anymore power its already fast crap. They could never understand as their views are biased.

I am having the car in for a 100,000km service in a couple of weeks and will get the tuner to check the health to see if upgrade is ok, i got it with service records from Japan with 60,000 and most of my kms have been freeway so it shoudlnt be a problem.

I just keep telling myself you only live once and its only 10 months extra. It has been a dream for many years.

Its a big decision and i normally wouldnt bother asking but i need some unbiased opinions.

Cheers

Pat

I said yes even before i read your thread mate hahahaha

but after reading i still say yes, if that wot u want then go for it. What i would be checking when u refinance is what the interest rate is. Working at a bank i can tell you it would generally move to current interest rates which are full of shit at the moment. Dw about the financial crisis (won't affect a personal loan) or whatever as long as your stable at your job and the loan is a fixed interest rate. Check early payout fees and things like that as well...

If after calculating the extra cost (being able to afford it) and its what you want to do then forget about everyone elses opinion.

Regards

Ash

Btw can you pm me details on your turbo supplier?

Yeah right with you mate

I had loans approved instantly. Was going to add on to existing loan but as you said that is increasing the current loan interest rate with it to 14.4% from 12.5% and they only give checks so it wouldnt really work out as there is money going all over the place to different suppliers. Nab you suck!

So i decided if i am going to do it i will get a new seperate loan from a different bank. police & nurses 13.99% and they can just put it in my account.

Its no secret with the turbo supplier

Leigh from extreme turbo manifolds. Just google that name and there is prices on the calaisturbo site. Only problem is he is so good and busy its a 2 month lead time

DO IT.

Just make sure it's not one of those supposedly "bolt on" turbos.. the ones with bastardised Nissan exhaust housings..

Also make sure you have some slush to account for things that may require modification!

Its a genuine garret gt3582 aka gt3540 with .82 exhaust housing..

Everything will be quoted before hand on paper before i have it installed. Only thing will need a unknown amount of modification is the turbo to cooler piping. The rest is straight forward.

They only give out checks??? Your not on a secured loan are you? Another way round that is just deposit that check into your own account LOL. whats the t and c's with police and nurses? early payout fees, monthly fees, setup fees?

Its not really the issue but its $2.5 monthly fees with $149 establishment fee an no penalty fees for early payout. Its the pick of the bunch so far if you know a better one let me know but i am can live with that.

I take it you're going to have a workshop install it? definately keep some slush fundage then. Everything may appear straight forward on paper but is rarely the case unless the turbo is a direct bolt on to stock manifolds :P

Have you thought about what you're going to do when the stock crossover pipe (the one with the bov) doesn't fit next to the turbo?

P.S. I'm putting the exact same turbo on my engine, you may be able to get away with things like 120deg pipe to throttlebody where I couldn't. I have had to go custom forward facing plenum due to the extra height of the 30.

pick a smaller turbo if you only want 300rwkw

yeah i thought about that but this one gives me more room for improvement for the future if i choose.

Other options would have been 3071(will struggle to get that power), 3076 (may also struggle), 3082 (spool times are close to 35) Jap turbos are out of the question with the prices

Garret prices are the same for all of them.

I had considered smaller for better response. But leigh and tuner recommend i go the bigger option. However i could be persuaded.

dunno if the .63 will or wont choke

thought someone had another thread with a 3071r making good power (somewhere in forced induction)

but @ 280rwkw i think the standard internals are already being pushed

plus side is rb25 engines are $1600 replacement lol

also with mods 1 thing leads to another

starts are small then next then you know engine dies, you do a full custom setup

most guys in the magazines prolly happened that way

and if you are doing it

keep cash aside, greddy intake manifold is exra $1.2k :P + pipe work

Do you not think a .63 housing will chock?

Nope. I think it would be as reponsive as the .82 on a 3L is reported to be..

Or a custom manifold using a GTR plenum for less than half that price.. you might even find the runners line up better with the 25t manifold! lol

I am keeping plenum and throttle body stock. Would be nice but its not needed just extra $

Cooler to turbo piping and intake pipe will need a bit of work. All has been accounted for and will have an extra $1000 if needs be.

Tuner reckons .63 housing will be chocking.
