Hi, today i drove past a red light camera.. although, i went thru a yellow light (just)

and then it turned red half way through the lights..

Do you reckon they get you for doing red completely

or does going thru a yellow light & half way thru it turns red they get you..

Actually that's not true - you are only allowed to enter an intersection on a yellow when it is clear that you weren't able to pull up at the lights safely. You're not supposed to enter an intersection at any time when the light is red.

A couple of guys in SA got done for pulling out of a service station and accelerating through an adjacent intersection on a yellow, even though it hadn't turned red till after they went through. (Before you ask, Australian Road Rules are the same across Australia, although I think Vic has some kind of exceptions with the 'turn right from the left lane' thing they've got going on in the centre of Melbourne).

Having said all this, red light camera triggers are just after the white line as you enter an intersection, so if you'd made it past that before the light went red, you're probably safe.

Most of them in SA do these days - I know I instinctively slow down to go through intersections now, so I guess having them around the place has done its job....

...oh and please tell me you know those girls in your avatar...

Terry, Corner Nepean Hwy and Bay Road, I've seen people get done ON a red, its a very short light (ie. it goes amber to red quicker than what I would consider average).

I've never had an issue with it :)

In regard to Red light camera function, if your wheels cross the section in *front* of the white line (ie. up until the pedestrian crossing if there is one), and your rear wheels pass it (0.5 or 1second?) after the light is red, then the red-light camera goes off. In theory that is... :)

last i heard, only 10 out of over 100 red light cameras actually work in sydney at the moment.... they still might flash but no film in them..... also your only allowed to cross in yellow if your not able to stop in time..... but a camera doesn't know if you could or couldnt stop, so they only flash with the rear axel crossing after it turns red

I got a happy snap one night going through a yellow here in brisbane. Was yellow when I entered the intersection and yellow when I exited. I dont think i was over the speed limit in any major way (5 kph tops?). I never saw or heard anything about it, was in a crowded area however so the embarrassment of setting the flash off was bad enough.

So does this mean that if in dense traffic, your rear wheels set off the camera, you'd have a case in court ??

Is there a precedent?

Any law graduates in this forum?

Why can't all those law book cases be put onto disks?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

No flashy flashy, no ticky ticky... You'd know about it if you set off the camera, even in daylight.

Not a law graduate, but entered an intersection, got stuck in traffic which suddenly stopped, light turned amber, started moving forward when light turned red and went through intersection.

In the picture you can see my brake lights on, but it's only a tiny bit into the intersection.

Got red light ticket, went to court, judge was not willing to listen and through it out in 5mins even though the prosecution continually changed the story of how the system worked, every 2 weeks it was a different story, and it was changed again on the day of the court, they also delayed the hearing by about 4months to work out what to do.

In *theory* if your are *on* the line and the light goes red (as in your rear axle is on the line) you *should* be fine, in reality I don't agree, if you are in this situation I see two choices:

*Charge into the intersection, if your not near the line your, your in the intersection and your fine.

*Reverse back behind that line, if the camera goes off you can probably get away with reversing back (which is illegal as well but probably a minor issue).

Below are good websites with plenty of real legal advice, particularly the first one set up by Sean Hardy, a Barrister in Victoria. If you do settle in, and spend some time reading through them you will realise that the odds are stacked against the motorist. The more you read, the greater angst you will no doubt get over road law and radar policy transparency. Some of the threads give very good advice on what to say......or not to say when involved with situations involving the Police. Might be worth posting your red light camera circumstance to get some clarification. Keep an eye out for Sabre in the post's, suspected of being a TMU operative!

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
