Lovely :)

What lens are you using to achieve 560mm of focal length?

Hopefully next year once i come back from europe im gonna buy a telescope and hook up the 40d to that..

Have you tried that pic at 10% crop??

Edited by siddr20
ah man I so have to try that! fully need to get myself a cable remote...

What camera you got?

i one for sale.. suited for 350d and ***d canon slrs.. 5 bucks..

if it doesnt work more than happy to give refund :P

reason for sale - sold the 350d ages ago and got no use for the cable!!

OMG check this out..

What's even cooler to me, is that you captured your first nebula, too - the arrow I drew in the attached image points to M42 - the great nebula in Orion.

Wow, your rush job destroys anything I've attempted with star trails. The colors are awesome and I like the composition too. Congrats on your first constellation and deep sky object. The entire sword of Orion shows up very well. No failure here, just great work.

WOW so i captured my first nebula!!!

I always loved astronomy and hopefully next year once i come back from my europe trip i will be buying my first telescope!!

you know what that means :)

40d will be hooked up to that to capture some deep astronomy nebulas, clusters etc etc..

I just got my results back from that picture of ORION..

This is what i captured

Hello, this is the blind astrometry solver. Your results are:

(RA, Dec) center:(85.6738, -10.0638) degrees

(RA, Dec) center (H:M:S, D:M:S):(05:42:41.712, -10:03:49.680)

Orientation:52.47 deg E of N

Pixel scale:288.60 arcsec/pixel

Parity:Reverse ("Left-handed")

Field size :64.13 x 42.73 degrees

Your field contains:

The star Sirius (αCMa)

The star Rigel (βOri)

The star Betelgeuse (αOri)

The star Adhara / Adara (εCMa)

The star Bellatrix (γOri)

The star Alnilam (εOri)

The star Wezen (δCMa)

The star Mirzam (βCMa)

The star Alnitak (ζOri)

The star Saiph (κOri)

IC 2118 / Witch Head nebula

NGC 1976 / Great Nebula in Orion / M 42

IC 434 / Horsehead nebula

IC 2177

Nice wish i had such big zoom lens!!

How do you find those extenders anyways? I wish they made one for efs lenses..

Any reason why you didn't choose the 2x extender?

With the 1.4x TC you only lose 1 stop of light. On my 400 f/5.6L with a 1.4x TC it actually becomes a 400 f/8L and auto focus is lost. If you use the same lens with a 2x TC it loses 2 stops of light so it would becomes a 400 f/11 L....

Also the 2x TC loses to much image quality as well. I hardly use my 1.4x TC..

Sorry another quick question - why did you choose just a fixed 400mm lens? You do much sports photography? Or do you have the 100-400m lens?

I wanted a long lens for a decent price, I was not keen to fork out 10k+ for the 400 f/2.8L so I chose the f/5.6L version.

Basically it comes down to this for me. The 400 prime is sharper, faster to focus, more ergonomic and does't have that crappy push/pull system the 100-400 uses. I thought about a long lens for years before I bought one. I use it a fair bit for surfing and other kinds of shots, its a good lens. Tack sharp. I have the 70-200 f/2.8L IS for shots under the 400mm length :)

Oh you got a 70-200 already.. That makes more sense now  Wish i could afford it.. sigh

Thanks for the info about the extenders!!

Hopefully next year i can buy a telescope and hook up my slr to that!!

Xmetal - hmmmmm sorry but i just dont like the look of that car..

Did a quick test at 70mm with my new lens i bought today :P

I think it did just fine!! What you think?
