OK, anyone who values their freedom to read and download what they want should check out this site and take action.

If what d!ckhead Elmer Fudd (K Rudd) and his posse are proposing goes through, not only will the internet get massively slower (like it isn't slow enough in Aus already) due to the onerous filtering each ISP has to do, but so much content will be unavailable to us indefinitely. It is a pathetic knee-jerk reaction to counter parents who can't supervise their kids properly, or are too cheap/lazy to download free NetNanny style software to protect their own children.

What they are suggesting is quite insane and to censor the content that they decide is inappropriate is truly unfair on the Australian people imho.

And the insanity of it is that I (and anyone with basic knowledge about TCP/IP) can circumvent any filtering method they can come up with. So theyre going to waste $80 million doing something as pointless? And our AG vetos any DEBATE about R18+ video game classification.

People need to send a message to these stooges in government. Sign the petitions but also get on the phone and harass Stephen Conroy, the Minister for Broadband (aka the dickhead responsible).

This stuff makes me pretty agro. And if it comes into effect I'm going to teach everyone how to circumvent the filters.

-D

The worst part is that Conroy lied about that you can adopt out of the filter which he promised in the beginning (then again, I'm not that surprised about government officials lying). Which is now confirmed that you can't.

The whole concept of "illegal" content being blocked is very faint, what is this "illegal content actually based on? & theres already signs of sh*t to come, several different parties have already stated that they want X Y Z stuff put into the banned list. Such as, Party A wants weapon sites blocked, Party B wants torrent sites blocked, Party C wants access to oversea gaming severs limited...

Also not to mention that Conroy & his men in suits "bullied" Internode's network engineer Mark Newton when he spoke up on how this filtering thing isn't gonna work. There was a link in whirlpool forums on the interview about this.

Bah........sorry to side track slightly here but if any of you buggers were responsible for the change of government for what ever reason (ie Iraq & their alleged WMD's) then suffer in your jocks.

Amazing how many people I've spoken to as to their reasons for electing cRUDD as new PM and the common pathetic response is either we needed a change in government or the Iraq WMD debacle or even the people overboard fiasco, lol. :)

You guys aint seen nothing yet!

so who decides what needs to be censored? wouldnt there be freedom of speech issues there. they could effectively controll what news sites you can and cant go on.

We going china style living in government controlled world :)

boo you mr ran :) meesing with me and my porn sites just cost you a vote next election  im a classy fella

& that was the point I was making before, "they" get all the say in what is allowed & what is "illegal" and this will only lead to the problem, where different parties will pressure the government into adding sites they don't like into the black list. Today family 1st party have already stated that they want all R rated stuff be on the permanent block list, tommorrow it could be the media industry telling the government that they want all torrent websites be on the list, then the day after it could be some other group wanting to ban all religion sites.

A example of this I can think of is (from a article I read posted on a thread in whirlpool forums on this topic) happened in Sweden.

In Sweden, there was one ISP (Read it is ONE ISP, not the entire country!!!) who have a filtering in place to block "illegal" content, at 1st the filter was only set to block out sh*t like child porn (which I don't have a problem with that disturbing sh*t being blocked), but it wasn't long before the ISP was approached by the media companies saying that they want the ISP to classify all torrent sites as "child porn sites" & hence are effectively blocked.

the hate i have for kevin dudd and his hopeless idiotic front bench cannot be put into words............proves how blind and dumb more than half out population really is voting that prick into power

*goes and begins emailing

Totally against this stupid move, I agree with all comments here and the idiots that voted Rudd in are only not beginning to realise what a fool he is and just what they have done to our country. As Pete said, we've seen nothing yet and I'm sure there's much more shit coming out of the woodwork.

Definately getting behind this, will pass it onto friends too

Ahh but Pete, the Libs were vocal in their plans to do the >exact same thing< regarding the firewall and gaming classifications.... Conroy has just up and decided to make it his policy too. So in actual fact, change of government or not, we would still have to be fighting these issues. (I think liberal voters forget how much of a debacle Richard Alstons tenure as communications minister was. Guy didnt even get an email address because the concept was over his head)

This post is blatantly going OT, skip if you like.

even so Ben, there are so many other unrelated issues that would get so far OT if I decided to open that can of worms that it would make my jugular burst

Either way you look at it, both parties are absolutely shithouse when it comes to emerging technology and the social implications. You can't use this particular topic as a clarion call for the liberal part, because they've cocked it up just as much. Selling off telstra was one of the worst things that they could have done. Not that privatisation was a bad thing, it was the way they did it. Now we have a floated company who owns all the infrastructure around Australia, and their number one priority is now making money for the shareholders. New technology, quality of the infrastructure and consistency of service all come a distant second. Can easily point out a dozen reasons why Australia lags so poorly amongst the developed world as far as Internet access is concerned.

Cause/Effect. It wouldn't surprise me that this net issue is a big thing for a lot of people and the PR for the current administration will cause a shift back to the Liberal party (not that I expect the libs to do anything about it, once a law is in place the incoming administration generally dont bother repealing it.). I think people are liking Turnbull and he seems to have the old school Liberal principles moreso than his predecessor.

Seeing as this is a senate related bill, you could also harass key independant senators like Xenophon to try and get them to block it (don't even bother with Family First, they love this bill... another reason why religion shouldn't be involved in politics). Maybe the key one or two senators can continue to block it and we'll all live happily ever after in a land made of chocolate, with little hoppy chocolate bunny rabbits.

this is my last unrelated post in this thread cause I'm sure Andrew doesn't want us to digress too far from the original topic but if you go way back into your history lessons Ben, you'll see that politics was birthed from religion, but then there's another can of worms as to whether you believe or not that the bible is a true account of history.........either way, you'll never separate the two

    • Happy new years folks! Wishing you all a successful year of money pit ownership!  So the subframe bushes are out....   Ok, who else has done that job before??  What a C U Next Tuesday of a job that is!  Be glad to not do that again in a hurry! I think I explored every option available to chop the middle section of the bushes out, most of them unsuccessfully! I dried a holesaw, die grinder, normal drill bit, air chisel, etc, etc. The true success happened by accident when I'd decided to try a step drill I spotted on the bench on the way passed.  See, there are benefits to never cleaning up after yourself! It RIPPED through so so much better than the drill bit. It has to be the skinniest one available so its small enough to fit between the inner tube and outer casing but it made easy work of it.  First one i hammered the shit out of... New method- 20250102_185506.mp4     I did the other 5 in less time than I fluffed around with the first one. I used the cut off saw (sawsall as the yanks love to call them) to cut a break in the casing. Even with that they're still a prick to hammer or air chisel out.  The last few i just went rambo with the air chisel without cutting them. I overcome one of the early ones so will hit the with the mig to fill the cut then sand it off smooth.  The carnage left over-   I've also been "nesting" ie, cleaning up my babies nursery,  ie cleaning the f**king pig sty of a shed. I've got that much shit laying around it's as cluttered as my head!  Getting things put away, in boxes, on shelves, hanging off walls, all to get some working space back again.  Hopefully that keeps me motivated....
    • AFAIK does the base map for Haltech even have the 4D compensation enabled? It's been a while but when I looked at it I remember it was actually using pure TPS as one load signal and MAP for another. Seemed workable but not ideal by any stretch. A lot of people have "make the event-itis" which leads to stuff like this happening.
