no problems! if you have a factory tv/sat nav. its the one behind the glovebox. so thats not the CPU youre after incase you see that instead

If you have TV/Nav, the CPU is ...................?

I thought it was in the passengers kick panel but I have seen another diagram where it shows it behind/above the glove box.

Which one is right?

if we are referring to the engine one- behind glovebox on ALL cars. the one inthe passenger kick is the auto or CVT ECU. the navi unit is the DVD rom above the glove box.

if you have a special ECU the label will be on top of it. bear in mind the car may not pass emissions with it in there...

Inside my glove box there is a dvd player and a etc devise.

wow so im totally wrong?

when i had the glovebox out there were 3 vertically mounted 'ECUs'. i just assumed the one in the bottom left in the kick panel was the engine ECU?? had a wire spliced for something going one above it - which i assumed to be the gearbox ecu. and finally the one actually mounted behind the glovebox was for the TV goodies....

so which ones which?? (sorry if that seemed rude i would really like to know)

I'll post a shot up over the next day or so (I have a '03 coupe here so it will be that one.)

Excellent thanks.

I checked it out today and opened the glove box and found a comparment but did see anything looking like a ecu . Maybe its because i dont know what a ecu looks like.

If it does have the after market impul cpu what does that mean in terms for compliance ,does that mean i have to get a standard ecu and then change them after registration and if i can change it back how do i get it re-tuned ?

Perhaps some photo's will help some of us advise of what you may or may not be looking at...

I have no pics of the glove box . But i went to see the car today and its getting ready for compliance he said the alloy wheels will need to be replaced and the exhuast system back to standard. I didnt mention anything about the cpu . When i open the glove box it folds out and its empty then i look up towards where the dvd player sits and there is a silver metal bracket there is that it?

What emissions mean and how much does it usually cost to comply a car i feel like im getting a raw deal.

Excellent thanks.

On the passenger side there are two openings (gloveboxes for lack of a better term) the top one folds up. In this one the 2 things that seem to be in many v35 & M35's are the DVD rom for the SAT NAV. This is not a DVD player for movies. The second, is usually the ETC device. This is an electronic toll device for Japanese roads.

The lower glove box folds down but there is nothing in this box. You will need to remove the glove box to get at the CPU for the motor.

This is a link to a page that shows how to remove various parts of the dash to access much of this area. http://g35ipod.com/installHW.php?skin=1

Under the glove box is a black kick pannel that is above your feet when sitting in the passenger seat. (this also holds the flare if you have one). This just pulls down from the leading edge. You can see the CPU above this.

    • Oh man what a deal.... Funny enough (well not really) I sold a car to some old dude (buying for his Daughter) on a Saturday, He asked if she could take the car now and pay me the money on Monday as the bank wasn't open. Needless to say I told them to come back with the cash or get f**ked! Luckily the money seemed to magically appear in his pocket a few minutes later, so it all ended well (for me).
    • Gucci bags tend to hold their value well, so someone’s definitely going to get a nice find here.
    • @Ozdavroz Not going to get a better deal than that. Cash up front and ongoing payments. 🤑
    • I wouldn't even move it like gTSBoy is saying. I'd seriously do what Duncan is saying. Unplug the injectors, and unplug the fuel pump.  Pull the spark plugs out. Have a look in quickly with a bore scope if you want. At most, you can't spray a bit of oil into the bores so there is lubricant in there while you crank it. (Don't fill it, as it's only going to enter the exhaust, or spit at you out the spark plugs holes. Before cranking the engine on the starter, after a 5 year sit I'd probably prime the oil system manually. Easiest way to do so is to look at buying an oil filter relocation block, fit it to the engine. The pressure line going into the engine on this block you can then shove into some sort of oil pump, or put it into a bottle, with that hose going to the bottom. Fill bottle up with oil. Now seal the bottle and add a compressed air line to the top of the bottle. Feed compressed air in, about 20psi will be PLENTY. This will pump oil through the motor. Be aware, it also means it will drain back to the sump, so make sure you don't end up over filling the motor Now bolt the old oil setup back on (or fully install the remote filter system).   This way you've at least pushed fresh oil everywhere, then you're letting the motor crank to then do its own oiling. Then I'd tap the key to make sure it can start to crank, if the motor free bumps, then I'd just hit the key and let it crank. After letting it crank and seeing you can get real engine oil pressure, put new spark plugs in, reconnect the fuel system electrics, and send it.   Additionally, you can look to remove the fuel feed line to the rail, and divert it to a tank so you can get the bottom of the tank shit out, and just incase there's some crud sitting anywhere that gets passed the fuel filter (or is already ahead of it).   If fuel injection at the injectors ends up appearing to be a problem, you can dump the injectors into an ultrasonic cleaner for a quick flush clean out. Note this isn't as good as new injectors, or getting them pro cleaned and flowed
    • All I can say is, that's still bloody awesome! No plans on caging it I'm guessing?
