Hey everyone, i really want to replace the last 2 stock speakers i have in my car which are the ones in each door. I don't know much about car audio and i want my car to feel like it has surround sound kind of thing. Ofcourse its not getting that feel with stock speakers up the front and other speakers in the back, so all the sound is just coming from my back speakers.

I have 9" back speakers (i think, thats what the person said who i bought the car off anyway). So what size speakers should i put in my door?

Also i don't have a subwoofer nor do i want one since my music doesn't have bass, i listen mainly to screamo music. Once i replace the 2 door speakers, is that like the limit of what i could do to make my car audio sound good since i'm not putting in a subwoofer?

Good set of 6.5's or Splits upfront. . and a set of 6x9's or 6.5 coaxials for the rear.

Front - Vocals and Mid Range

Rear - Can back the music up and give you the surround feel.

But in order to get the best out of it, you will need to run one 4 channel amp.

Thats my opinion, dont take it as gospel :)

Recommended gear:

6.5 Rockford Fosgate T162C

Splits Rockford Fosgate T162S

Amp - Jaycar 4 Channel. Please dont get a Sony amp, or those cheap ass 10 million watts amps that are running about 20 rms..

It all comes down to how much power your aiming, are you looking for more of a quality rather than loudness?

personally id go for a pair of 6" splits for front like Polk, Boston, JL, best to go and test hear them yourself.

and as XTC said youll need 2 amps, 1 mono and 1 4 channels.

Tyson,

1. splits are speakers that have a separate tweeter for you to position up closer to your ears.. like what you've got. other speakers (called 'coaxials') have the woofer [bass] and tweeter [high frequency] in one, like this --> http://www.onlineelectronicmall.com/images/140.jpg

splits are usually more expensive, and rightly so because the ability to position the tweeter wherever you like is important, usually making for better sound quality.

2. an amplifier is what it sounds like man, it amplifies the signal, meaning louder music :D your head unit has an in-built amplifier which isn't too powerful, so buying a separate dedicated amplifier is usually the go. this will give your speakers the extra 'juice' they need to operate at maximum efficiency.

if you just plan to have the 4 speakers and no sub, a good 4 channel amp is what you need. this is the route i've taken, splits up front / 6x9s in the rear all running off a 4 channel amp.

hope i have cleared some things up for you

Thanks, so do splits come with seperate tweeters? Since i already i have tweeters.

I think i have 6x9's in the back of my car and i've got tweeters up the front on like the side of the side view mirrors. So since i already have tweeters, would i need splits?

Also i'm always paranoid of blowing up my speakers, if i bought a 4 channel amplifier, how do i know when its at its maximum potential and that turning it up any louder would damage the speakers?

Finally, would a JL amplifier be good (if you can get them)? I like to have everything the same brand and my other speakers and tweeters etc are JL Audio ones.

yeah when you buy a set of splits it comes with the tweeters. you should already have the woofer installed in the door.. so you won't need to buy any more speakers components.

dunno about the JL amplifiers man, to be honest it's not gonna sound any different as any other decent brand amp. so if you can get one for a good price then go for it.

as for blowing up your speakers, i wouldn't worry if everything is installed properly. you will be able to hear when they are too loud cos it sounds distorted and shitty. as long as it sounds tight you won't have a problem.

I have JL audio tweeters and JL audio 6x9's in the back but i just got stock speakers in the door. So would i just put in new speakers and not need splits then? I don't know what a woofer is so i don't know if i already i have one installed in the door =\

when you buy splits you get a woofer (bass speaker) and a tweeter...it is possible that since you ahve the tweeter you probably have the woofer in the door already...so you have splits already..might want to check first though but i'm pretty sure you already have splits if you have a tweeter. so if thats the case no you won't need any new speakers...just get a good amp...get any man...jl audio is good but you'll be spending more money on them then you would for say a coustics, jvc, jbl etc that does the same thing or better...jbls are reasonably cheap and are very good quality by experience.

Ok thanks, well i looked at all my speakers in my car and the JL ones are black with their logo on it but the ones in the door look completely stock since they are just grey and old looking. When my music is playing no sound comes from the door at all that i can hear, but when i hit "mute" on my headunit it mutes all my speakers except the door ones which aren't loud at all.

I don't have my car right now so when i get it back i'll double check everything i said is correct. But if it is, would it be best i replace the door speakers with woofer speakers? Or just normal speakers?

Maybe i should just go into some place that sells the speakers and talk to them since yeah its confusing me lol. Like if i could tell a dude to go look at my car and tell me whats in it and what i need then it'd be cool hahah.

u do know that 6x9 dont fit well in the back of R33 unless u have a shelf made, spacers or box put in

i think a shelf made up of MDF is the best option follow link for more info

I'm sure he does realise that, either way it does not relate to my thread. I already have 6x9's on my parcel shelf in my car.

dont piss fart around on the forum about it tyson.. you are a noob (no offence) when it comes to speakers.. go to autobarn/wow/srathfield and they can show you some on their walls.. go autobarn when you get ur neons

Or for someone experienced in skylines (my and a lot of others on here recommendations) will be go to Chris Rogers (Post #2) and just inform him on what you want and he will be able to lead you down the right path.. and you can then ask questions face to face and he can show you the difference in speakers and what splits are.. etc.. etc
