for a turbo car i reckon you cant go wrong with a electronic boost controller or a aftermarket ecu. An aftermarket ecu will open doors for any future modifications and will give you the best out of them.

I plan to do more in the future. Basically a semi project car, so everything I buy needs to be compatible with future upgrades etc.

If you don't plan on upgrading turbos any time soon, take a look at this topic: (1/4 times for GTRs running stock turbos)

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Gt...ck+gtr+times+12

Plus there are a trillion topics on SAU about how to spend your money on a GTR.. but based on the above topic it seems that all you need is a good clutch, boost controller, zorst (which you have) and bingo you've got low 12s 1/4. As for power, see that topic as well.

Can't go wrong with the:

Apexi PowerFC D Jetro ~$1800 now with the poor yen + ~500 tune and install.

Greddy PROFEC B ~$550 now with poor yen then ~150 to install, takes very little time.

Button Ceramic Clutch ~700-1200 ~$300-500 install

Keep it under a bar of boost will keep it safe with the ceramic rear's if it is not a VSPEC and expect 300-350hp~ safe with 12.5's~ @ 107-111mph~ which is a awesome street car. If you interested in running alittle quicker other upgrades like turbo's, injectors, fuel pump, manifolds, dumps, cams ect will be needed. You obviously can take shortcuts and push the stock turbo's harder and slap a aggressive tune but it will cost you more in the long run.

Hope that helps.

Exactly what I was after :). 300-350 hp is around what I want, it seems to be about the plateau area after that price starts to increase dramatically against performance gains.

That's it, I'd be leaning more towards 330-350HP also as generally you would expect around 250-280HP from a bog stocker, but you have to consider the age of the motors now so not many will be running in show room condition. Also HP is a strange thing so don't be to concerned, MPH is a better indicator of how things are heading.

definatly agree with what monga has said, however i personally would be inclinded to change to some turbos with steel wheels, if only for reliablity , ceramic dust sucks :P . perhaps chase down some second hand hi flows, or even get some new 2860s if budget can stretch, but then there is injectors/afms and on and on.

    • Aren't these run off of high voltage in OEM applications? Like 200+V. Or at least 48V in mild hybrids. At ~18,000 BTU ballpark nominal capacity the power draw is at what, 2.2 kW? ~185A is a pretty crazy amount of amps. At 200V it's only 11A. The 70A nominal kits with up to 100A peak draw I see for stuff like classic Porsches have pretty substantial compromises like shutting off at idle and not actually managing to keep the interior cool in hot conditions because they can only output like 6000 BTU. IMO if I had to pick what high amp draw component to retrofit to these cars I would start with the engine fan, not the AC compressor. You need an ~850-1000W brushless fan, something like this: I would love to see the data but I would bet that whatever you save by running the AC compressor in a more efficient regime with an electric motor you're probably losing to conversion losses anyways. It's not really like a clutch fan where you're losing power all the time even when it's nominally disengaged and it gets worse as it engages because the envelope tracking isn't that precise.

    • I'm wondering is the Toyota and Mazda "collaboration" could see that new Toyota ???G20 ??? turbo engine that they have been showing off recently into a future MX5, apparently it's good for 400hp out of the box That could easily, possibly, be much better than the last collaboration between Toyota and Subaru with the boxer engine in the twins
