well you have to take into account that the gt2 is much lighter (145kg) and more powerful (37kw more) than the 911 turbo (and did you see the size of the feet on the back of it!!!), and comes standard with carbon brakes and is only rwd (so doesn't understeer quite as much as the turbo), so it was always going to hammer the 911 turbo round the track. and the gtr was speed limited, so until they can test 1 without speed limiting we won't know how they compare, on that track at least.

but didn't the guy doing the test of the gtr say that the one he was driving wasn't speed limited? if so, why didn't they put that 1 round the track?

Jason Bargwanna

Yes

SOME SAY.....that he used to race r32 GTR's at Bathurst and has recently retired from V8 supercars !!! ;-)

Car killer...mmm dont think so

I finally got home and watched my first ep last night. So wrong in so many ways. Who is that plonker doing Clarksons job? What a try hard. The show looks weak, the narrative is disjointed, what was that "what were they thinking" segment? and that R35 story lacked resolution. It's crap....Ï see some "retooling"in the future

If they actually tested different cars to UK TG it would be worth watching, but the stupid thing is they don't. They test the same cars (even with the episode delay TG UK still tests it first) and are far worse commentators.

I would say it was a half arsed version of TK UG but thats too much of a compliment.

anyone who saw the way Courtney and Murph threw the 'bog standard car' around should now plainly see the Aussie Stig is not a professional driver, or even a good club level driver. So forget your ideas of him being a current or ex V8 Supercar driver! I don't know who he is, but he ain't fast. Has the Stig driven the Mazda 2?

    • Aren't these run off of high voltage in OEM applications? Like 200+V. Or at least 48V in mild hybrids. At ~18,000 BTU ballpark nominal capacity the power draw is at what, 2.2 kW? ~185A is a pretty crazy amount of amps. At 200V it's only 11A. The 70A nominal kits with up to 100A peak draw I see for stuff like classic Porsches have pretty substantial compromises like shutting off at idle and not actually managing to keep the interior cool in hot conditions because they can only output like 6000 BTU. IMO if I had to pick what high amp draw component to retrofit to these cars I would start with the engine fan, not the AC compressor. You need an ~850-1000W brushless fan, something like this: I would love to see the data but I would bet that whatever you save by running the AC compressor in a more efficient regime with an electric motor you're probably losing to conversion losses anyways. It's not really like a clutch fan where you're losing power all the time even when it's nominally disengaged and it gets worse as it engages because the envelope tracking isn't that precise.

    • I'm wondering is the Toyota and Mazda "collaboration" could see that new Toyota ???G20 ??? turbo engine that they have been showing off recently into a future MX5, apparently it's good for 400hp out of the box That could easily, possibly, be much better than the last collaboration between Toyota and Subaru with the boxer engine in the twins
