One of my friends recently bought a r33 s2 and from the moment i sat in the car i noticed the spooling sound of the turbo was different to what i was used to hearing in my car(s1 engine)

I thought maybe his turb was on the way out so we checked it out --- no shaft play what so ever,no missing pieces of comp wheels,no sign of the comp wheel rubbing against the housing an is was an original s2 turbo with the black nylon wheel.

On idle there is i slight whizzzzzzing sound an if reved slightly to about 0 on the vac gauge it gets considerably louder an after that it rises with the revs a litte into boost an then sounds "normal". Also when the car is switched off you can hear it distinctly whizzzzzzzzin down.

The car makes boost as normal (8psi) an holds it straight thru the revs

So for all u guys out there who has had experience with both s1 & s2 engines Is there a difference in sound of these two turbos IE. nylon wheel VS steel wheel or is this s2 turbo singing it's last song?

Neither the series 1 turbo nor the series 2 turbo has steel wheels. Series 2 has a nylon compressor wheel where as the series 1 doesn't. Thats the only difference.

Yes you can hear a difference between an aftermarket steel wheel turbo and a nylon wheel turbo, but i seriously doubt you could hear a difference between the series 1 and the series 2 turbo....
