IMHO - The ZR1 is a pure sports car. I mean it has a stick shift for starters!

1)It also has leaf springs.. and name a race series that still uses "stick shifts" (Manual??)

i have to say that the ZR1 is a more refined piece of machinery.

2) refer item 1.. or do you mean it's highly refined pushrod motor? the fact it needs 6.2 litres to make 130 horsepower (there are plenty of NA motors with better than that power/litre) more than the GTR? then there is the drivetrain again, a manual for going fast, an auto for cruising, and what would have to be close to the most advanced 4WD system in the world Vs a truck gearbox, and an LSD...

I donot want to start a flame at all. Im just saying lets appreciate other cars as well as Skylines.

All for appreciating other cars, I rally a Toyota, I would happily own a ZR1, but only to do BIG skids in!

Personally, sarcastically speaking, if the President of USA gave me a choice to own, between a ZR1, Merc SL range, BMW, Japan, Id gladly choose the ZR1

As above, I would take Japan, especially with all the grid calls I see photos of!

However tho, on the track it would be different story.

I mean come on, who DOESNT love that awesome supercharged V8 on full song???? Dam!

eh, Maybe a nice old 5 litre aussie 8, but I would take a nice 350kw RB over that thing.

I love the yanks classics and I have never really been a fan of their wannabe sports cars, however I congratulate them on the ZR1. Even though this was a straight line race, the ZR1 apparently handles really well and I am sure some people may be shocked at its track performance. The ZO6 was a typical US automobile, great in a straight line, handles like a pig, but the ZR1 is a new piece of machinery and I respect it for that reason.

In saying that, Nissan still has the VSPEC to release, probably a better comparison to the ZR1 and if they release a Z tune version of the 35, well we may have a 600+hp monster GTR! :P

The ZR1 :P son of rajab o'mighty that thing pulls hard.

Look, the GTR was made against the 911 turbo, Nissan didnt hide that. When you start throwing it up against cars 3 times the cost, twice the engine size in a DRAG race ,what do you think will happen.

I think the GTR should have been replaced with the Viper ACR for that test.

apparently, it's slower in corners....it's only faster overall because of that long long..........LONG uphill straight that it was able to make up all the time it lost around the twisties.

Here's some speculation on my part.

Here's Motor Trend's full test

They raced the car at the Las Vegas motor speedway's "road course" (which is normally the twisty stuff in the infield) and the ZR1 still came out on top.

If this layout is the one they used then the high speed section would put the advantage to the ZR-1 but they could also have joined corners 5 and 15 to make something much tighter.

Most of the info I've found says that there are two road courses, at 2.5 miles or 1.3 miles. If they're lapping at 58s (lets say 1 min) then I'd guess that they're doing a 1.3 mile course. A 124km/hr average speed with that infield is more believable than a 240km/hr average speed.

The oval itself is 1.5 miles, so it seems likely that the "course" described with the top part of the oval is the 2.5 mile layout. The 1.3 mile layout probably doesn't use the banked oval at all.

For the ZR-1 to beat the GT-R without that massive expanse of high speed road is still worthy of credit.

nice race.....but not a good comparison.

Im just laughing at the fact that they are comparing the GTR in a class that's WAY above than whats its meant to be competing with.

for them to compare the GTR in that class is a big insult to Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo and even Audi.

A car thats meat to be competing with a fast sports car such as a 911 (i dont really class the 911 as a super car and certainly not the GTR either).

first it was a comparison to the LP460, then the R8 etc etc. for gods sake the 599 has a V12!

Point here is that most manufacturer can make a car that will go fast in a straight line, corners well etc. But at the end of the day it comes at a cost and what customers they want to be targeting.

we dont have 6 figures income, nor have $25000 to insure our cars every year (my mates was tell me about this guy he knows who pays 25k on insurance for his Ferrari)

point is the GTR is something really special, its got the performance that can rival most super cars but none of the price tag. you can actually afford this thing if you really want it. So its not exclusive to the super rich.

Good on Corvette for a great car. I just hope Nissan doesn't go soft with the V-spec like they've done with the r32-34. just strip the weight, strengthen the drive trains and add more Ponnies.

dont forget Honda is working hard on their new NSX and i think Toyota is meant to be working on a Supra project too. These are rivals to the GTR so its would be interesting couple of years ahead.

my god some of you take anything against a skyline to heart.

it's quite amusing.

sure it was like entering a year 8 school carnival 100m runner in to a race against Mr Bolt.

so what.

Mr Bolt is an awesome runner and he beat the snot out of the little kid.

still fun to watch.

I don't understand why most if not all of you feel you need to come to defend the name of the GTR in everything.

it's a great car.

it got smashed in a straight line race.

yes the other cars were worth more etc etc.

it doesn't matter.

it raced, it lost.

I cracked up reading the person defending the GTR regarding it being slower around the ring "due to the really really long uphill straight section"

seriously.. it's almost as bad as the excuse of "oh I need to close the gap on my spark plugs then I I won't have missfire and I can beat you"

when the GTR beats something around the ring, all is fair.

when a faster car laps the ring faster, it's time to bring out the excuses.

GET OVA IT BRO!!

Good video. It's great to see car mags flog the crap out of these cars - this is what most of us want to see!

Is it fair... who cares? I just want to see these things fly ;) . How often do you see a Ferrari, Porsche and other hi-po cars drag like that??? Oh and yes, drag racing is also fun. Was amazed to see the GT2 pull past the GTR as quick as it did though

The Z06 is a farkin machine. Forget the badge for a second - lightweight, big power, great handling, manual transmission, stupidly quick and its comparatively cheap! What more could you want...

Umm, i consider the 911 turbo to be more 'supercar' than the R8. The R8 is pretty slow for a 'supercar' - a lot more slower than the GTR.

    • Interesting, I haven't read about the issue with oil getting into the speedo in the cluster before. I'll have to take more notice with mine. The speedo on my R32's when I've run factory diff and tyre size have never been accurate as far as I can remember. The non Type-M GTS-t did come with 15" 5 stud wheels and smaller brakes, but that's less than 5% of them.
    • Good to hear the condenser you picked up off my brother worked all good. Do you think there could be an issue with your AC compressor itself or the clutch on it then? I don't know a lot about them so I can't really help but keen to hear what it ends up being. Keep the build thread going man, it's nice to look back on over time.
    • This is a story of my life things, I learned eventually (thanks to someone calling me out) that my enthusiasm for discussing and sharing ideas that it came across as arrogance and I'm like... WTF?!    One thing I'm pretty sure I justifiably pride myself on is knowing that everyone will have things they can teach you, and you're always going to find out that something you think you know turns out wrong - you just don't know what it is until you get there.   Just the bursting enthusiasm that comes with ADHD when you hit something that gives you dopamine dumps can come across like you think everyone else is wrong or don't matter. But yeah, I'm a software engineer by trade and also do tuning in weekends and 100% have long had a reputation for  quickly making connections when resolving problems or forming solutions that I've sometimes had to take people form a long walk from start to end to explain how I ended up where I did when it's seemed "too simple" when I've stated my initial case, and had the "WTF" type reaction when they've realised how much was actually considered haha.   My reward is that I get all the curly problems thrown at me.
    • Wives never seem to find things funny. Especially when they're trying to sleep, and you've found the new funniest thing ever. I've never seen someone be able to get try and be cranky with me, while they're holding back fits of laughter... 😛   Also, I tell mine it's payback anyway. She has BiPolar. So the household can get quite emotionally wild at times 😛
    • I'm not up to date on the latest, but for basic modifications like pod filter, lower springs etc you can get a modification permit at the time of inspection.  For more serious modifications you will need engineering.  Intercoolers used to fall into the mod permit rule but its been a long while since i looked it up.   Either way you will be able to get it registered, just a case of $300 vs $3k .
