Hey all,

My friend has a R32 GTR, running single high mount conversion, 50mm Ext. wastegate venting to screamer pipe, runs around 1 bar.

The other day we were giving it some stick along some country roads, wastegate opened and screamer sounded as normal, but when we slowed down to idle we noticed the car had a strange exhaust note.

Got under the car as it sounded like an exhaust leak, and found exhaust passing thru the screamer pipe at idle. From what he thinks the wastegate is staying open and not holding pressure. Could the gates diaphragm or spring be stuffed? Any ideas?

Were taking it off this weekend to have a look at it, just want to know if anyone else has had a similar problem before we do, and whether its worth just buying a new one to replace it.

Cheers

wastegate valve is not seating properly for whatever reason. sometimes the seat of valve may be damaged, spring may be faulty. it's a bit hard to diagnose away from the car. only way to see what's up is in the first instance unbolt the screamer so you can see the valve at idle (if the gate is positioned so you can do it that is.).

i wouldn't rush out to buy a new one though. try and figure out what the gate is opening at idle first.

nothing i dont have 1 in the car thats why i need 1.......

I would be checking the spring inside the waste gate and maybe replacing it and checking that both pressure port lines on the wastegate are connected.
