I brought a 2003 6m 350gt two months back and it arrived last week. The condition of the car i was more then happy with seeing its a 4.5 grade b.

After only a day its already steam cleaned and it"s already at the compliance shop . Now i do have some after market parts which include :

19" alloy wheels

aftermarket exhaust system

neon lights

impul cpu

recaro seats

Now im being told and i have read that everything needs to go to factory standard. The good news is that a friend of mine who just imported another v35 2003 is factory stock standard ,and the same compliance shop is doing his car as well.

My question is can i take everything off his car ,the factory wheels , seats , exhaust , engine cpu ,etc put them on my car will it then pass compliance?

And then take them back off again and put all my goodies on and drive away. whats with that cpu can you just take them out and then put another one back in again and it doesnt change anything? The tyres i have with the alloy wheels the front ones are pretty worn you fell the guide that runs across to tell you that your due for new tyres.

Also once the car passes the compliance then what happens what do you need to do ?

Speak to your workshop, they can best figure out what's the go with the aftermarket parts.

Once it comes out of compliance, you need to take the following to the RTA - Engineering Cert, copies of the Import Approval and CIN documentation (the import paperwork), weighbridge ticket, blue slip. Usually the workshop should be able to arrange all that for you.

Get green slip beforehand, go to RTA, pay fees for stamp duty, registration and number plates, and off you go. Don't forget to sort out at least third party insurance, and an immobiliser as soon as possible.

I have been trying to call around for a green slip and the first thing they ask is what date do you want it to start. How can i know that when i dont know when the car will be ready for registration. And in regards to the number plate i wanted to get personal plates and the car has got an immobiliser but again im told has to go.

You will enjoy driving it, I have had mine Skyline 350 GT 6 Speed for about a year I love it, they have a real nice smooth power with a stack of top end get up and go! Mine came with a Nismo exhaust system and I find it revs alot better than a stock one.

Only problem I have with mine is the speed limiter!

They look really good with 19 inch wheels to, I sold one to a lad he put a real nice set of Volk rims on it.

Green slip you will only need to arrange once the car has finished compliance. It only takes about 15 minutes to arrange green slip cover so don't worry about that too much for now.

Personal plates take a few weeks so you should order them now if you haven't already. If your car is ready to register and the plates aren't ready, just register it with standard number plates and swap over the new ones when they are ready (or wait and do it all together).

Immobiliser on the car wouldn't be up to standards for insurance anyway, you need one which is meets Australian Standards for insurance purposes.

What do you mean the speed limiter ? What is that i didnt see one in my car . I have the fujitsubo factory optioned exhaust.If its a factory fitted option does it still need to be changed for compliance ?

The compliance shop said that the alloy wheels which are 19" maybe be within the place card or something. The front tyre size is 245/35/19 and the rear is 275/35/19 . Is that within the legal limit of the car ?

You can drive them any faster than 100 KM/phr !!

No that have a factory cut of 190km that all, when you drive it you may find out what I mean.

My car is finished compliance apparently , just waiting now for some plates and paperwork from canberra . Not sure what it is . I havent been give a quote yet and i was told there are "issues" with the impul ecu. And i need tyres 245/35/19 and 275/35/19 . Lucky me :D

    • I have a VALCON if anyone wants it, I have no idea why you'd want to have VVT specifically broken out of the ECU as opposed to running it off the FCON/whatever standalone you have.
    • Hi Yes we're a bit optimistic we might get something out of sealing up the two pipes of the external wastegate and reactivating the stock one. I believe the orginal stock wastegate was tack welded shut. It doesn't budge and visually looks closed and sealed. The car has noticeably more lag so it could be at least part of the problem, maybe all. It's definately one of the key changes made since last tune. And it's one that's more difficult to fully understand and measure, not like for instance timing or cylinder compression.  Thanks for that feedback, we'll let you know how this progresses.     • Well, I was going to say, "Is the wastegate set up so that it is not leaking?" That's actually a different thing to what you're asking about. In theory, if you have allowed the two halves of the manifold to commmunicate (more than the stock manifold does - which is at least a little bit) then the negative effect should be apparent in delayed spool, not in outrigth power. OK, maybe just maybe, a badly set up twin scroll wastegate "crosstalk" might kill the top end, although it's hard to see how. What is happening with the original wastegate in the turbo? is it sealed off properly. If it's left flapping in the breeze, it will f**k everything up. If it is still there, and can be returned to service, I'd be capping off the external (presuming the two halves can and will be isolated from each other after doing so) and have a go with just the stock wastegate. I have an internal wastegate in my highflowed rear housing. The bigger opening and flapper should be fine to >250 rwkW. So there's not exactly a pressing reason to have the external. Done right, an external will give better results. Done wrong, it might just be possible to have worse results. Report back!
