wow, there's a lot of people on here that hate a lot about there cars.

The only complaints i have are:

- Disgraceful turning circle

- Constant feeling of dread when driving that i'm going to get pulled over and defected.

- Squeak in the rear end that i haven't got around to investigating

- The fact that i feel the need to pour stacks of cash into it (this isn't really an issue with the car, it's more a personal issue that needs to be addressed sooner rather then latter or else i wont be able to eat :P )

Far out everyone has alot to complain about! I personally dont think the turning circle is that bad at all, try driving a landrover discovery if you want something to complain about!

Only thing I can think of is lack of support on the R33 GTST seats when cornering hard. Easy fix, put some GTR ones in :P

The VDC off button merely turns down the sensitivity, it won't tun off completely

The satnav and tv tuner are useless (for the time being)

instructions and menu button are all in japanese so I can't turn off the sat nav voice guidance unless I can find someone who can read japanese, until then the sat nav actively searches for a gps signal and even tries to pin point me on the japanese maps, sometimes it shows me driving through a japanese national park, some times it shos me driving off into the pacific ocean all the while a lovely japanese girl's voice is telling me something in japanese politely. No idea what she's saying but I'm guessing it would read along the lines of "you're in the pacific ocean please make a 360 turn when it's safe"

93GTR V spec

terrible interior....cheap Nissan dash vents etc

terrible oil pump for a supposed race engine(RB26)

everytime I pull up in traffic there is a R33 next to me...so much for being an individual in a Skyline

The good

amazing 4wd system tech and speed for a 93 model car

Some of these are weak, it’s a 1990 sports car

Poor turning circle is fixed by $30 extra lock washers

Windscreen washer(s)? Ive had my silvia 2+ years and havent used it once, only reason its there is so I don’t get defected.

Cant believe no-one has had a massive bitch about HICAS, ive spent endless hours battling against hicas.

Ceramic turbines that have a tendency to fail.... and under just the right circumstances, take out your perfectly good engine! Thats what I hate. (Yes yes, its an old car...but still annoying)

93 R33 GTS

The bad:

Turning circle is the same as the moon

I get booked essentially for being in a skyline

Oh and the armrest/cover for the centre console broke and squeeks all the time. Fixed in ten seconds with a safety pin.

Thats about it. My cars mint otherwise, don't seem to have any other issues that others do.

The R34 is a great car, superb steering and roadholding, excellent performance, very robust engine, that gives an easy 9.7l/100km in general driving so excellent on fuel mileage - have never had a problem in 2 1/2 years apart from replacing coilpacks with Splitfires at the 60K mark on the odometer and put in std copper plugs in place of iridiums, and the cig lighter internals falling apart (can't charge my fone now!!!) - now the downside - yes everything has a downside-

1) the suspension is very harsh on bumpy roads (that means nearly every road in NSW) and

2) largely due to the stupid 4.3 diff ratio, the manual gearbox 1 st and overdrive 5th gearing can be somewhat frustrating - first gear gets you only about one or 2 car lengths before you have to get second (unless you want to go to near redline every time you start off) and then when in 5 th cruising on freeway your doing over 3000 revs at only 110km /hr -- when its clear the engine could easily run at 110 at almost half those revs - even my VY Commodore cruises silently and effortlessly at 110 at less than 2000 revs - so in my opinion the R34 is just revving away on the freeway at 3000 for no good reason - a ridiculous situation- why did Nissan not provide a 3.2 diff ratio option?

4) poor gearbox selector gating means it fairly easy to pick up the wrong gear from time to time if you are'nt paying full attention (once went from 2nd at about 70k/hr direct to 5 th but it still accelerated quite well so did not bother to drop back to 3 rd).)

3) everyone wants to race you or overtake you no matter how unsafe for them or you - its just pathetic the amount of attention you get that it makes almost every outing uncomfortable at some point - should mention have never been stopped even for RBT or anything else in past 2 1/2 years so the unwanted attention is just from other road users - never a problem from other Skyline drivers either!.

To summarise :the R34 its just not a comfortable practical car to drive on really long trips especially on the average pot-holed, repaired and or just plain bumpy and second-rate road system we have - in that situation even the VY is a winner over the R34.

94 R32 GTR

Hard to park, car feels like your parking a whale, not to mention the poor turning circle.. impossible to judge distances between you and stationary objects, very hard to gain confidence to reliably park this thing

Oil Filter location

Open door beeping

Accidently scraping the front lower lip while going too far into a park spot or dodgy driveways

I'm 6'5, car is awkward to get out of, door needs to be completely flung open to really get out properly without straining yourself, tight parks amplify the awkwardness

Being 6'5, barely enough room for me to turn the steering wheel without my legs getting in the way of my hands while turning the wheel

Useless turbo pressure guage... millilitres of mercury my ass.. surely bar or psi is a more universal understood measurement of air pressure

Air vents that are broken off, mate thinks they come pre-broken from the factory

R32 has no dedicated oil cooler.. (if you can count that water/oil cooler to be any good on the track)?

Nismo coilovers, starting to really feel in my lower back after trips longer than 20 minutes

Power windows are fiddly, i still havent worked out how to get them to the height i want on command, they just had a mind of their own and require random mashing just to get the window half openish.

Having to park in the middle of nowhere in carparks, and still losing paint

Gritting my teeth every time I see a speedbump

HICAS.. wells whats to say, takes alot to get used to

Seats don't go back far enough

Climate control is really fiddly, and a big distraction trying to get it to work the way you want while driving

The first time you sit in the drivers seat of the GTR, you cant help but be overwhelmed and intimidated by all the stock guages you might not seen in a normal car (torque split, volts, turbo pressure, oil temperature, oil pressure etc)

Not to mention any tools you bump into the enginebay, are pretty much gone for good.. i lost my positive side red battery cover and the only way to get out was packing tape on the end of a long stick

R33 GTS-t

Let's see.. well there was that time I couldn't arm the alarm and my interior door light stayed on for 3 weeks. But that turned out to be the monkey who serviced my car had put the washer bottle back in on top of my bonnet pin wire and it eventually shorted.

Then there was the time I got an oil leak - and that turned out to be the same monkey who serviced my car hadn't done it properly.

I had about 2 months worth of squealing fan belt, took it back about half a dozen times they kept saying it was the power steering belt, retensioned it and eventually replaced it and nothing helped. Eventually I got the shits and took the PS belt off, started the car and it still squealed.. BIT HARD TO SQUEAL WHEN IT'S SITTING ON MY BENCH YOU F..N MONKEY. Tightened the alternator belt, problem solved.

Now that I think of it, everything I hate about my car has been because some dropkick mechanic couldn't turn a spanner if it was on a merry go round. If anyone is thinking of getting their car serviced in Balgowlah NSW make sure you PM me first to make sure you're not using the same crowd. If my timing belt lets go I'm sending them a bill.

The only thing it does that vaguely annoys me is a rather loud ticking noise that comes and goes, around 3000rpm on light or no throttle. Some days it's there some days it's not, kinda weird. Would love to solve that one.

Besides that it's great - everyday performance fun handling great turning circle can service it without even jacking it up and everything that opens and shuts and turns on and off does as intended. HICAS doesn't bother me, seems to work fine. And my car's nearly standard so I never get pulled over. What more can you ask for when you're paying under 20 grand for a car!! If it came with wider rims standard it would be perfect.

year: 1993

model: r32 gtr

faults: -poor fuel consumption(to be expected)

-tight engine bay, and interior(when working under dash)

-seat belt hinge doesnt go high enough

-tien coil overs harsh ride and starting to knock

pros: -supportive seats x4

-big aftermarket support

-performance(cat back exhaust, intercooler, turbosmart "t" -233rwkw=sub 13 1/4mile)

-atessa(7000+rpm clutch dumps+launch)

-most factory parts available from nissan(some reasonably priced, some expensive)

plus many more that owners will come to find...

but, i love my skyline

year: 1993

model: r33 gts-t

transmission: auto

Bad: HICAS system...to the point when it makes the steering wheel "stiff" its like driving without power steering (occurs once in a while).

being targeted by cops lol im sure everyone here knows cops "hatessss" skylines.

my bloody right window button. Bitch all the time

Nope. They NEVER look at me. I've jinxed myself now but I've had the car since July 2006 and I've never been pulled over for "having a skyline" except for once when I was on a big skyline cruise and they were looking for some idiot who had done burnouts. I wasn't them so they let me go quick smart.

Cops don't target skylines unless you modify them. FMIC + exhaust + chromies = cop bait. Cops, like daft impressionable women, are attracted to shiny things (although for different reasons).

If any of you have problems parking or turning in an R32, I think it's because you need driving lessons - mine is the easiest car to maneouver around a parking lot or do a tight U turn in, and with a front bar which slants inwards instead of out, makes it pretty easy to judge how far to move in to a parking space - the nose is the furthest pointing part of the car!

My major annoyances are : the seatbelt getting twisted, having a GT-R front bumper which scrapes only on stupidly angled driveways into service stations, shithouse low beam headlights (even with HID's), 4WD not working with an aftermarket computer connected and probably the fact mine is a 4 seater (but hey its not designed to be a taxi is it)

I would agree with cramped engine bay to fiddle with anything, but I've found the VN is worse, especially with the ignition system, and location of the oil filter. I do wish the bonnet had gas struts or opened higher to save my back though!

    • Yeah, the latter. No diff should have a centre replaced without checking clearances because its unlikely to be the same as whatever came out. Not that that stops most people just checking a new centre in
    • Major thread necro but how bad of a job is it to DIY? Looking at it online it looks like if you reuse your ring and pinion as long as those are in good condition it should be fine to just pull the axles/front cover and replace the diff that way? Or should I be replacing everything and doing preload measurements/gear mesh testing like the factory service manual mentions for the rear diff?
    • in my list I had the R33 GTR as the best Skyline. Infact I had all GTR's (33>34=32), the NSX, the GTO, the 300ZX, the 180SX, the S15 better than the FD RX7. I had the MR2 and the A80 as 'just' better. I also think the DC5R Integra looks better but this is an 01 onwards car. I also think the FC>FD. It's almost like aesthetics are individual! The elements @GTSBoy likes about the FD and dislikes about the 180 are inverse in my eyes. I hate the rear end of the FD and it's weird tail lights that are bulbous and remind me of early hyundai excels. They are not striking, nor iconic, nor retro cool. The GTO has supercar proportions. I maintain these look much better in person (like the NSX) especially with nice wheels and suspension which is mandatory for all cars pretty much. Some (or all) of these you have to see in person to appreciate. You can't write a car off until you see one in the flesh IMO. Like most people we probably just like/dislike cars which represent certain eras of design or design styles in general. I also think the 60's Jag E type looks HORRIBLE, literally disgusting, and the 2000GT is nothing to write home about. FWIW I don't think the Dodge Viper Gen1's have aged very well either. You can probably see where I rate bubbly coupes like the FD. I know we're straying now but the C4 and C5 absolutely murder the Viper in the looks department as time goes on, for my eyes. Wouldn't surprise me if people who love the FD, also love the MX5, Dodge Viper, Jag E Type, etc etc.
    • I used to hate R31s, and any of the other Nissans that led up to it, and any of the Toyotas with similar styling, because of the boxiness. They were, and remain, childish, simplistic, and generally awful. I appreciate R31s a lot more now, but only the JDM 2 door. The ADM 4 door (and any other 4 door, even if they are unique compared to our local one) can eat a bowl of dicks. The Aussie R31 is also forever tarnished by their association with stereotypical bong clutching Aussie R31 owners of the 90s and early 2000s. I think the Nissans of the 70s (other than 120Y/180B/200B) are far superior looking to the 80s cars. The 240K era Skylines are boss. The same is broadly true of Toyotas. Hondas don't ever register in my thinking, from any era. Mitsus are all horrid shitboxen in any era, and so also don't register. Subarus are always awful, ditto. Daihatsus and Suzukis also don't generally register. They are all invisible. I think the SW20 MR2 looks fiddly. The 3000GT/GTO is like that but way worse. Too many silly plastic barnacles and fiddly gimmicks ruined what could have been a really nice base shape. Kinda-sorta looks like a big heavy ST165 Celica coupe (and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing). I think the 180SX is dreadfully bland. It's not bad looking. But it has no excitement to it at all. It's just a liftback coupe thing with no interest in its lines, and bad graphical elements (ie wide expanses of taillight plastic on the rear garnish). The S13 Silvia is a little better - getting closer to R32 shapes. But still....bland. S14? Nope. Don't love it. S15...a little better. Probably a lot better, actually. Benefits from not being like a shrunk in the wash R34 (where the S13 was a shrunk in the wash R32 and the S14 looked like a Pulsar or something else from the stable on Nissan mid 90s horrors). The Z32 was hot as f**k when it came out but hasn't aged as well as the A80. Keep in mind that I think the R33 is the most disgusting looking thing - and out of all the previous cars mentioned is objectively closest to my precious R32. It's just....real bad, almost everywhere you look. And that is down to the majority of what was designed in the 90s being shit. All Nissans from that era look like shit. Most other brands ditto. In that context, the FD absolutely stands out as being by far the best looking car, for reasons already discussed. Going behind the aesthetics, the suspension alone makes it better than almost any other car.
