Howdy,

Yeah basically i've been abit mindfull with my temps. What would you call the "safe zones" of both the temps and the "oh funny as, my car is dead" zones.

Right now my car has no fan as its buggered and have a thermo that will be in shorty. I am sh*tting myself in heavy city traffic where im getting no airflow.

Its an n/a rb20de if that helps

cheers

55 is probably a little on the cool side, mate. Most good synthetic oils should still be kept below 100degC but 55 would have me checking with the oil manufacturer for optimum operating temperatures.

real? maybe i should check my temp gauge :) although i don't really push the car.. farthest i've been in my car is to the hyperdome... (10-15min drive) lol i got it as a weekender and well.. not enough time on the weekend lol

The oil is going to be pretty damn thin at 120-130degrees! I would strongly recommend you upgrade your cooling before getting that high, or do a cool-down lap if your on a track

Or run a higher temp oil (within reason)

safe operating zone for oil temp is between 75 and 100C. optimum is around the 80-85 mark.

55 is far too cool.

safe operating temp for the collant is about 70-90C. optimum is around the 80 mark. it can get as high as 100C without any real problem, but past sort of 105 or 110 stop driving! it woil boil at 100 since the system is under pressure, but sooner or later it will boil. not good.

i was getting water temps of about 90 in my skyline, even on the highway. new thermostat didn't help. i think the water pump was probably the cause of the problems (was getting close to 100,000kms service). don't have the car anymore so don't really know or care.

cheers for the replies. Yeah its just i was soiling myself the other day seeing my water temp hit 105 in city traffic and no airflow. i've just put my rooted annoying clutch-fan back in that sounds like a bus. But i suppose whats more annoying, your car sounding like a truck or a f*cked engine..

Just buy another clutch-fan, but it does cost $385 new,see my previous threads on the issue.

Or you can go the thermo route, plenty of info on the forum on that, I'd personally buy a new clutch fan OR grab a second hand one, second hand can be quite cheap (mainly wreckers, they're quite rare to find)
