nerm
i dont think we should have a problem. it looks as thought they are targeting unregistered and nuinsured cars and unlicenced drivers.. im pretty sure that everyone on here has their car registered and insured in some way (and if you dont you are stupid) and have licences.. and if their cars are unregistered that in my view they diserve to get caught because they shouldnt be on the road, registration might be expensive (i should know because i paid mine on friday) but it is there for a reason Edited November 5, 2008 by Ex!$t3nZ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/243418-time-to-hide-our-cars-again/#findComment-4242309 Share on other sites

Only Unregistered and Uninsured, but i saw this being used a couple of weeks ago at the bridge near Jerra roundabout towards Hume. They had plenty of 'normal' car pulled over but there was a fair share of 'performance orriented' cars as well. Namely a few WRX's and an EVO that i saw as i went past (thanks self for being in a hyundai at the time).. Its just another excuse to pull us over and open the bonnet for another $30 inspection fee and what ever fine they see fit. Such a backwards system at times. Having said that, yes, any car that is unregistered/uninsured should be off the road in my books too. They just need to stop being so petty with 'performance' vehicles. rossco_01
this is a quote straight from another forum My mate went through the "Compliance Targeting Team" on the weekend while driving the most unroadworthy Laser and passed. He said they had the mirrors and everything but they still missed that the exhaust is in two pieces, even though you can tell by just looking at it from a distance. If any kind of modified car went through they would get cained. so tell me officer is this just another way to raise revenue from car enthusiasts the funny thing is that most of our cars are more road worthy than some of there gerneral patrol cars i was looking at a cop car the other day it had bald tyres. now im not pointing fingers i just think its sad they way we get treated and targeted for owning a performance car and that its something we enjoy and take pride in. GTRKat
This is wrong on so many levels.... I'll just bat my eyelashes and hope I'm wearing a low cut top. W1ngnut
I'll have to try that too GTRKat, except I might end up wearing handcuffs instead.... Does anyone know much about emission testing for the ACT? I was thinking about being a bit pro-active and getting my car legallised with the PowerFC etc so I don't have any issues with defects as such..... GTRKat
Now that would be funny to see!! I don't think there's anyone in ACT that currently does emission testing yet is there? There's been some talk of this on Canberra Cruises and I think a trip to Sydney is required. Guest
AFP ACT & NSW have new cameras which automatically reads your number plate and instantly finds all the history about the car, home address, other cars registered in the same address, drivers history, etc, etc. NSW camera is being shared across different cities in southern table land, it is on a tripod. ACT has a camera that is mounted on top of an unmarked white Commodore. Tomosan
yeah they pulled me over 2 weeks ago (friday) (about a 1km line of cars) out front of ADFA, after driving past the white VE commy with the little camera on the side. they blocked the 1 lane off and forced all into 1, so soon as you see it theres no where to run, you're stuck. ! they waved me straight into the closed off lane they were using to inspect, as soon as they saw me, checked exhaust (got me to rev it..), and ran mirror along underside of car, took my license for 5mins and then came back and said good-day. my exhaust is *right* on the limit of legal, and the guy said to me "wow that sounds really quiet!" so he was quite generous. unless something is blatantly illegal I dont think they really mind, its more for unrego/unlicensed etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/243418-time-to-hide-our-cars-again/#findComment-4242925 Share on other sites
hr32gts
Basically if they can see the car generally looks well maintained they will normally let you go ... I think the police are mainly targeting shit boxes on our roads ... I have had 3 cars in at work all with rego repairs and they are all old bombed out peices of crap ... 1984 mazda 626 with a list as long as your arm (that i had to do a full rebuild on and the end result was a $2500 bill to the customer after everything was fixed to roadworthy status ) (should have got a newer car when we told him in the first place .... 1977 Datsun 180b that should not ever be aloud back on the road , No pads , no rear linings , ball joint had broken in the front left , all tyres showing metal canvas , rust throughout whole car , rear wheel cylinders pouring out fluid both sides and also needed a brake master cylinder ... the list kept going on ... There are so many shit boxes out there I don't see why people cant just spend $3000 in the first place and get themselves a half decent descent Roadworthy able car ... not hard to find a descent EF/EL style falcon/fairlane i see them going for $3000 at most used car dealers ... Yeah, you have to go to Sydney. i did when i engineered my 31 and failed the first time.... i wasn’t happy. But now that my car is 100% road worthy i can drive around with out stressing every time i see a popo and that makes it worth it! GTRKat
I got told to avoid an emissions test like the plague cause they are really difficult to pass and that there are a lot of new cars that wouldn't even pass?? I do want to get mine all engineered and above board to avoid issues. Michele
There is a black hotted up looking ute (sorry, can't remember the model, hard back) getting around with one of these cameras on the dash as well. They scream up behind you and sit behind you for ages... I think waiting for you to get the sh!ts and stamp on it. They also rode my @rse through quite a way of 40km roadworks. They were initially going the other way, did a u turn when they saw the magnet. Followed me for miles, naturally I was doing the right thing but lost interest when they eventually got up beside me, ogled and realised I must have been a dumbass, boring middle aged (as Bec would say "born in the ice age") soccer mum. Like I've said before, I wouldn't be a young P plater with a Skyline for quids, it would be intimidating (its intimidating enough as it is) and quite scary. W1ngnut
Thanks for the advice on emissions guys and gals. I'm thinking along the same lines DriftGTS, just want to be perfectly legal so I don't have to pee my pants whenever I come into an RBT etc etc... I have heard word that it costs like $1500 to sit an emissions test in Sydney and you pretty much always fail and have to repay and resit.. Anyone have solid info about how much it costs to get tested and certified? Michele, that type of situation really rides me. I used to 'look up' to the AFP in Canberra for being quite down to earth and friendly, but lately when they start using all these scare tactics that 'gets the job done' (ie - raise more revenue), it is just so very annoying and wrong. Why is it that they can blantantly say "we are targetting hoons blah blah blah" and then sit all over our rears, for starters its discrimination and also quite unsafe as well. If they sat on someone's rear that was driving a new Mazda 3, I would imagine that it would move a little quicker too because it wouldn't understand the same as us that the car is a cop. Except that would never happen because Mazda 3's don't 'speed'.. livo
yeh i drove past in the opposite direction about 2 wks ago in front of adfa and they had traffic backed up for ages with police and motor registery cars inspecting everyone.....traffic was backed up for a couple of kms..... i was in the work van which would have failed big time so took the long way home past the war memorial behind duntroon..... not fazed by them if i was in the skyline either - its 100% legal and road worthy....
