Hey guys im about to buy a second hand HKS turbo i just want to know how to check its condition? e.g shaft play?

any help would be great

grab the shaft and wiggle it there is normally always a little bit of movement but as long is it is minimal.

check the condition of the blades make sure they havent got any chips or marks on them and check if they are all straight and not bent.

check for any stains near the bearing housing from water. just in general make sure that is is clean looking and been stored in an appropriate place.

should the little bit of play be in and out or side to side?

In and out movement i would say .5mm to 1mm is acceptable.

Side to side anything more than .5mm is a bit worrying.

Make sure you have the turbo in the correct position (as the turbo would sit in the car) not sitting the turbo on its housing when checking shaft play.
