Hey all,

I have had what seems to be some pretty serious electrical problems with my R32 GTR after recently purchasing it.

OK so problem occured when I was just driving to work normally and my wipers just turned on at abnormally fast speeds without touching the wiper switch. After this I heard some clicking and noises under dash and almost all electrics stopped working. This was my dash, clock, stereo, wipers, all lights, blinkers, power windows etc. The only things I could see still working were electronic boost controller, turbo timer and power fc as car was still driving fine.

So I got it to the auto elec straight away and he has told me that the main problem was my alternator and about 10 blown fuses in the engine bay and interior fuse box. After replacing alternator and all blown fuses the auto elec has told me that clicking noises are still coming from below the dash and it is still blowing the power wdw, wiper and heater fan fuses, all others seem to be OK.

So I am really hoping someone on here can shed some light on the problem as my car is going on 2 weeks at auto elec (he claims he is a man down).

I was also hoping someone could provide me with or a link to a complete wiring diagram with fusebox circuits for a 1989 R32 GTR.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Thanks,

Mitch.

Hey,

Well the auto elec is on his way to getting my car sorted after finding many f*cked relays from the surge my alternator produced.

There are a couple of things I am chasing that I am hoping someone can help me with as the alternator surge fried them too.

Im after a door lock timer (so the auto elec called it) It has something to do with door locks and power windows. It has the numbers '2845189971' on it. It is an 8 pin relay that is located below the right kick panel.

If anyone has any ideas where I can get one of these or if there is an alternate relay to use please post up.

I am also after but not as urgently, a fan speed resistor located underneath the glovebox.

Please post up if you have any ideas as I wanna get my car back!

Cheers,

Mitch.

Hey,

Well I have located the parts needed for my car and have finally got my car back from the auto elec after 3 weeks.

BUT I am still having a coupla probs, judging by the interest in this thread I doubt I will get any feedback, but its worth a shot.

Basically my 4wd (have 2wd/4wd controller installed), Tacho (aftermarket impul full dash unit), clock (no biggie) and 3 gauges still arent working. Hopefully someone can give me some info on where to look to get these problems resolved, particularly 4wd and tacho.

I suppose first thing to try would be to remove aftermarket 4wd/2wd controller? How do I go about doing this? Tacho, clock and gauges i dunno where to start but any info is good!

Cheers,

Mitch.

Does anyone know what is connected to the "MAIN" fuse ? I swapped a RB25 in my R32 and even when I remove the key, something is still taking power. I removed the "MAIN" fuse and it stops.

    • You have (externally anyway) a lot of patience!  At the very least your patience has rewarded you financially even if you decided you were over it!! I only just read your first experience of seeing the car, that would have been amazing!  Well documented too! It must be exciting knowing there's only 10 months left until you can get it on a boat and on it's way!!!???
    • Yeah, that's when. I guess you could say I'm as patient as I am foolish(or just a masochist?🤔). I've strongly considered throwing in the towel and calling it all quits many times, and have almost done so. It's a first-world problem for sure, but I've had a pretty rough go of it, as well as other factors; hoping something good comes of all this; it has to. It definitely is half the price of the ATS and performs great, but I'd like to try something different for once. I've sampled the ATS in a friend's 32 and it's solid👍
    • I know mentally you're set on the ATS clutch but honestly I'm a big fan of the Nismo Super Coppermix Twin. It's much cheaper and in some ways I think it's a better design for a street/circuit car.
    • Just checked in first post and you should be able to bring it home November this year, right? I'm amazed you made it through four years of this. As hard as it feels now the rest will go by in a breeze in hindsight, I'm sure.
    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
