seanisonfire
P platers will always find trouble in any car.. but with these new laws there will be less chance of more serious accidents!! i agree with the laws completely.. (if i was on my P's i would probly think different) but the truth is.. p platers seriously cant drive.. except some.. but they will always try and push themselves and its only a matter of time! Get them in little 4cylinder cars and when the time comes hopefully they can appreciate the power with motorcycles you start on a small bike... and u have to hold your R-E licence for at least a year before you can obtain your big bike licence! which is great.. i surely would be dead if i went straight onto a 1000cc bike!! haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244014-an-amicable-discussion-on-p-platers-and-the-law/page/9/#findComment-4121846 Share on other sites

I'm still a little undecided on this though. I think just knowing that they're planning to reduce P-platers to only 4 points has changed my driving habbits lol, and I wasn't exactly that bad before anyway. s2k12
you can still get some fast 4 cylinders.. Yeah, and they end up on the banned list too if the eastern states is anything to go by. Also, they want to ban all power modifications too, so basically, nothing short of an E30 M3, S2000 or DC5 integra type R would be remotely fast. maybe the government should make it compulsary to complete a defensive driving course before you aquire your P's.. teach them how to have some sort of control when in a sticky situation?! Agree'd. I think it should be a similar course to GT4 for licences lol. ACTIVE-LSD
sorry for digging up such a old thread but i got a question. isn't it a breach of human rights to ban people driving a specific vehicle? eg. turbo/supercharged/8cyl Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244014-an-amicable-discussion-on-p-platers-and-the-law/page/9/#findComment-4220677 Share on other sites

Marco-R34GTT
Fiddy kiddlers, drug dealers and murderers get a slap on the wrist.. Whilst we get reamed in the 'you-know-where' because of what car we drive and cult culture stigma... I see a point to what Mingy is saying.. One step closer to communism I reckon... Next they will tell us to never eat meat and live on a vegetarian diet for as long as we live... Mayuri Krab
^^^ We are more closer to Communism then you think... Look at the government's plan to set up mandatory internet filtering to all Australians; the live trials are expected to begin soon... now the only countries that I know have this kind of filtering is China & (I think) North Korea. I'll paint my skyline red + Russian flags & welcome our new "unconditional, unchallenged" government masters... for if I disagree I'll be silenced... permanently. sensfan
Can this show get anymore 1 sided and fear mongering. - Weather it was the 3 test subjects (ask any scientists.... 3 test subjects is far too small to indicate anything, the 17 year old could have just been a crap driver). - The fact they conveniently forgot to mention that more P platers are dying now than before because they raised the time from 1 year to 3. - The so called experts and families, of course a road safety "expert" and victims families are going to be one sided..... I personally have seen just as many 30+ year olds driving the same if not worse than the average P plater (people in suites, van drivers, idiots on phones, mums with kids.... etc) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244014-an-amicable-discussion-on-p-platers-and-the-law/page/9/#findComment-4250313 Share on other sites

antsr33
authorities should invest in driver training courses for p platers - that way at least if they do get into a situation they will know what to do - other than that maybe they should be restricted to a 4CYL car for the first yr. Grace-R33
other than that maybe they should be restricted to a 4CYL car for the first yr. not such a bad idea i guess for the first year... although ive had my 6CYL ever since i got my license and ive never had a prang or anything like that (touch wood!) just gotta be careful, i was always way to scared that the police would take my car away from me if i did anything wrong Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244014-an-amicable-discussion-on-p-platers-and-the-law/page/9/#findComment-4250476 Share on other sites
michael87
I cant believe that people would actually take that show (or any other current affair/today tonight show) seriously? That thing that limits your speed by GPS i think would be more dangerous as it limits your speed to the legal speed. How do you accelerate out of situations, its not always about braking to avoid a hazard. I think more driver training would be the most beneficial to new drivers and encourage drivers to use track and drag venues by reducing the costs and making more events.
