08yannch
hi i have a nissan skyline R33 and i need to upgrade the audio system. i dont want to spend over $1000 for the deck and speakers. i have gone to a few car audio shops and asked around and the general consensus was to get R type alpine 6.5" component 2 way speakers for the front and 6.5" coaxial 2 way speakers for the back. i have looked around on the internet and focal's have had no bad comments so realy i am going between alpine and focal but if i am way off plz tell me i dont really mind making a new back shelf to fit 6x9's so can any body point me in the right direction i need help Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244152-what-speaker-brand-is-best/ Share on other sites
HEKT1K
have you listened to either of these brands? when i was buying audio gear for my 33 i went to a shop and the guy played me some focal splits.. i nearly wet myself thats how good they were. so i bought them. just head down and have a listen man.. better to buy what you like best Ric Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244152-what-speaker-brand-is-best/#findComment-4251998 Share on other sites
Bonsai
Focals 165KR2 are the way to go or be different JL zr650. I got the JL zr650 but i got them at a good price I could not refuse but if i was buying again it be the Focal for sure. Bumblebee
Focal r in a league of their own... But alpine type r's... i wouldnt even waste my time on them.. i had a customer come into work lookin for them after listenin to his mates set... i should him the new pioneer TSD series splits which is the step below the SPL range, n they just shit on alpine... they go heaps lower in bass response and the high ends r so much clearer. Very natural sound speaker and for a retail price of only 400 bucks theyre a steal. Nothing from alpine even comes close to them, but focal.. thats a different story... Bumblebee
if u dont wanna spend heaps of money just get TSD series... i installed a set into a accord euro.. the dude said he didnt want subs so.. In went the TSD1720Cs in the front and TSD6902R (6x9) into the rear.. the bass response was amazing, and the soft dome tweeters handle the highs so brilliantly... u really need to shop around and listen to different types of setups to get a better understanding.. then u can make an imformed desicion Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244152-what-speaker-brand-is-best/#findComment-4253289 Share on other sites

Vik
Im running Rockford Fosgate T162S Splits and Rockford Fosgate T162C Coaxials. Love them. Sound great at high volume, and are very easily tuned.. Im biased but i highly recommend these, i bought them off a eBay shop, and no they arent fakes lol. Alpines Type R gear are great! Goto that website, caraudiowarehouse.. they got alot of RF and Alpine gear. But i dont think they have a board on which you can hear the gear itself. But go out to Doran Pro Audio or someone and they will be able to let you listen to some of the gear in their rides.. but since your in Perth look for a local dealer MRXTCZ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244152-what-speaker-brand-is-best/#findComment-4253565 Share on other sites
abu
You will also need a decent amp to get the best out of the ALPINE TYPE R speakers, no point running speakers like that off a head unit I recommend FOCAL, I've been reading around since I bought mine last week, FOCAL front 6.5" splits and rear 6.5" coaxials, for the money you can't go wrong. You would be best to get an amp that suits to get the best out of them, I went with an ALPINE V12 4 ch which should be just fine Depends on how much you want to spend and what sort of set up you want, you would have to factor in installation, wiring etc if you can't do it your self. Maybe best to speak to an audio store and see what they recommend, maybe get some sort of package deal Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244152-what-speaker-brand-is-best/#findComment-4253876 Share on other sites
dangerous_daveo
I doubt you will get Focals and a decent deck for $1k installed. Hell I spent $2k on a sub and amp... Lets scrap that, you won't get a good set of splits, and a decent deck for $1k installed with some sound deadening (because you HAVE to sound deaden). You really should get an amp for the speakers too. That said, my idea and your idea of decent could be two very different things. I do listen to the same music tho. If you have something harsh your ears will hate you. If you already have stocko speakers just leave them in the rear. You don't go see a band and have your back to them. Music should be in front of you. It will save you some money to get some better gear. Vik
Truly. For a system on a budget.. AMP: (Jaycar) Response 5 Channel Full Range amp ( has a dedicated sub channel ) Splits: Alpine Type R Splits Rear: Leave it stock if you want, but my ears have attention to detail so i'll be able to tell.. so i would go with some alpine 6's.. or something Headunit: Any head unit which has 2 RCA preouts or 3 would be a bonus, i'd go with the 3 RCA preouts. Deadening: I got quoted like 80 bucks for doors and 100 bucks for boot lid usuing Dynamat.. cheap. Gear: Amp wiring kit.. RCA's.. Get a mate to install it or something.. its not very hard to run all the wires, if your unsure about the headunit, then just get that installed before you run the wires. Amp wiring and all is easy as pie if you actually READ THE INSTRUCTIONS instead of handing over your hard earned cash to a bloke who reads instructions.. But as said before, you wont be able to get anything for the 1K price range.. For 1K .. A head unit, chatty sub chatty amp ( will blow in 4 months ).. and some low end 6's for the front.. got your basic doof doof. MRXTCZ that is right im not after a high power system it is more of a accurate sounding system that i am after but im guessing that the $1000 budget has gone out the window but i still wont to keep the price down to a minimum installation seems so easy http://www.psiparts.com.au/TechInfo/Manual...o%20Install.pdf Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/244152-what-speaker-brand-is-best/#findComment-4256209 Share on other sites

dangerous_daveo
For an amp it will do the job. Really you can get a cd player and speakers for $200 if you REALLY want (put that in my sisters old car and it actually sounded ok for $200), and the max you can spend is endless. You really need to set yourself a workable budget, as said $1k aint enough. All my head decks have been over that alone... So HU, Id allow $400-600 (top alpine deck is like $600 now, and they are the bees knees). Gets you something with some tuneablity etc. Just don't get a motorised face. They break. Speakers, well thats up to you. But $200-300 should get you something ok, far from great. Push it up if you can though. $400-500 will push you up a level. Amp, get something to match the speakers. As in power and quality wise. Then install... Now yes you can get a mate to do it. Or you could pay a professional to do it (ie, not some bloke at autobarn or wow (and yes I know some of these places DO have good installers, but the best are at the best shops)). I personally will always get the pro's to do it. They won't break clips pulling stuff off, you will get a proper warrenty, you build up a better repore at the shop, so if stuff does go wrong, its easier to fix. Really depends what you spend.
