Hi Guys,

I finally got my 2003 Stagea AXIS aka BATTLE STAR GALACTICA, better than what I expected, some of my colleagues in their Merc's,Beemers & Audi Rs4's are quite impressed with the ride.

The car was dead standard when it arrived 31K on the clock, I recently added a set of R34 GTR wheels & a Fujistubo Catback exhaust....

**Liverpool Exhaust have just made the first turbo dump pipe for me and I'll have some before and after power figures documented soon detailing changes with the mods in place.**

AUTECH have definitely refined the ride on the AXIS; having driven the ARX's they can be a bit of a boat ride, but this car carves up high speed sweepers effortlessly without the harshness of some of the aftermaket coilovers.

Can anyone offer feedback on Brake rotor upgraders such as DBA or RDA, are the discs & pads the same as the V35's....??

Cheers ;)

TT

The original wheels are getting some gutter rash cleaned up, I agree the polished allows look mucher nicer on the silver duco.

The car was recently imported for me, I was particular about the twin sunroofs and couldnt find one for sale locally.

Here are some pics of the turbo dumps done by Liverpool exhaust, the original dumps are quite restricitve with the precat

True testament to the Fujistubo design is that the car is still reasonably quiet...should be interesting when we fine tune it and give her a little tickle....keeping in mind its really meant to be the family hauler ;)

Hi TT

There is a thread in the stagea section which talks about some of the upgrades, this upgrade is one that Jetwreck sorted out and I am about to fit to my ARX. We have used R32 GTR calipers, with a spacer fitted, Jetwreck has these details for the spacer. You can use a standard R32 GTR rotor with this and there is a group buy for these from RS73. This upgrade is agreat value at under $700 for the parts depending on what you pay for you calipers and if they need a rebuild.

I like the exhaust..... nice..

I forgot to answer part of that question.

The front calipers and rotors are the same as the standard V35. The rear caliper and rotor are different.

I am running Hawk HPS pads on the front and rear that have been great.

I actually have a spare pair of the Hawk HPS pads for the front if you are interested.

Cheers

Thanks Andy,

I've read some of those posts, sounds like a great option, but I'm more interested in a direct oem replacment that is compatible. Nissan a reasonably priced for stock rotors, and I found the standard brakes to be OK, remember this thing will never see track work, just open road cruising. has anyone determined whether the rears discs are compatible with any other models. i.e 200sx, v35, maxima etc....

I know Jetwreck tried the R32 GTR rear caliper and it would not fit. Not sure about other models though.

Whats a fullset of pads front & rear worth?....,, I'm planning a road trip soon heading to Great Ocean Road, so will most probably just do a pad change for now but would like to explore Rotor options available for future reference.

wow very nice AXIS!! i like the R34 rims on it

what did the exhaust work cost to have done??. it might be cheaper to get a whole system done instead of jap cat-back due to exchange rate

silver looks awesome hey? ;)

Nice Axis. Very nice.

The NM35 shares front & rear brakes with the touring version of the 350z (non-Brembo).

Whilst I don't touch them with a barge pole, the Bendix part numbers are exactly the same front & rear for both cars (they also share front brake parts with the Maxima).

Hope that helps.

That is a very nice exhaust.

Curious on the front pipe. Is it off the shelf or did Liverpool Exhausts make it?

May I ask what they charged for the dump/front pipe combo?

PM if you wish.

I supplied my own sard high flow cat and the guys havn't worked out the price yet for the work carried out on the AXIS, as they are also making up a few other things for my GTR.

Speak to either Jim or Tarkan at Liverpool Exhausts; I'm sure they'll be very competative on a full turbo system compared to a Jap cat back job. Just mention Tony with the silver AXIS as this was the first turbo dump they ever did and I'm sure it wont be the last. As you can see from the pics there quality and craftsmanship is A1!!

I was fortunate to swap my stock exhaust for the Cat Back Fujistubo with another car that was imported the same time mine came in, so the imported did me a favour considering I purchased the car from them.

Thanks for the info,

So what reccomendation would you have as a replacement after market rotor & pad combo thats a direct bolt on with minimum fuss.

I assumed the 350Z front & rears would be exactly the same but I've been told the rear discs are slightly different to the 350Z touring??

I am not sure what to recommend as I am only just looking at doing the lot.

Having said that, the Hawk pad/DBA 4000 rotor combo would seem to be a decent upgrade and will probably be the way I go.

(I was looking at EBC Red Stuff pads but I have heard opinions from many people which persuaded me to give them a miss).

I have a set of nismo front pads....only did 1000k's on them before going to R32 GTR brakes....if your interested PM me.

P.S. Interested to see the results of the dump pipe.

Nice one, TT!!! I've never seen R34 GTR wheels on an M35, but they look great. I must admit, though, that the factory Autech AXIS wheels are very nice too.

If you're not busy Thursday nights, there's a regular cruise up to the Central Coast that I attend, and it'd be good to see more Stageas there. Alex "CL11QE" has been attending regularly in his white s2, and we've had the occasional visit from Duncan, Jetwreck, andy65b, and others.

The details are HERE...

Thanks for the invite mate!

All depends on whether I get the car back today, the tuner is crunching some data at the moment.....If possible I'll tun up to say hello & meet with fellow enthusiasts.

TT,

Good to see another AXIS owner on the forums, I too reckon the silver rocks....and yes it is a great highway warrior, cruising is great, overtaking is a breeze the only problem is that it cruises too well and is easy to creep up to 150k/h and then you realise.....LOL

I found the suspension very good as well, but the only downside of the car really would have to be the brakes. which is common with a lot of 1800kg+ cars. I did have a look at A & B Motorsports in Brookvale and they did 6 or 8 Piston brake sets for about $2.2k, I'm not sure of how good or bad K-sport brand is but if anyone knows please speak up......

http://www.aandbmotorsports.com/main.html

I too would be interested in what the "rough" price of the exhaust is in the end and will keep an eye out for your threads on how you go tickling your engine...and turbo....

    • Throwing my spoon to the soup here a bit.  When I installed a 044 back in 2012, along with the direct power mod, the car became very difficult to start. To a point I burned one starter motor as I was late for work and tried to get the thing going. With some tuning and careful use of gas pedal when cranking it became bearable. Trying to make this short as possible, but the 044 died after 2-3 years, after which I went with an AEM 320lph pump, which also died after about 4 years to my dismay. After that I went with a Nismo pump, and while trying diagnose an emissions problem, I noticed for the first time that my fuel pressure was 5bar/72psi on idle, and that removing the vacuum line did nothing. After monitoring the situation, and removing the direct power feed and going back to FPCM in attempts to remedy it, I noticed there was fuel in the pressure regulator vac line. Kept the FPCM, installed AEM external regu and the car became sooo much better in every way, including starting. And I had driven it like it was for 11 years.. Anyway, I agree these are likely two different problems, and the FP problem you just haven't noticed before. I do not know much about haltecs, but what first came to mind was the CAS, which probably is not there any more. So how is the wiring from haltec to gauge cluster? How is the battery voltage and alternator?
    • Your car was auto before? You have different diff ratio (auto vs manual i think? or n/a and turbo?)
    • +1 for getting a screen off alibaba, CarPlay/Android Auto is vastly better than whatever navigation cars had 10 years ago. I got an Android screen for my 2015 BMW, huge difference. Fully compatible with factory stuff including iDrive controls.
