im in the market for an ecu, either a stand alone one or a piggy back just to make the most of my stage one mods

ive noticed afew of these Mines, LAP etc remaped ecu's popping up, sayin they hav been programed for cars with full exhaust, intercooler, 12psi...and to lean out afrs...some even sayin they were tested and there cars (r33 gtst) made a tad over 200rwkw with this in place

can u trust these? are they worth it, i dont hav a lot of money to spend on an ecu..im only after around 200rwkw and i will never go any further

anyone tried these, any proven results...all comments would be appreciated

:D

risky as the chipped ecu is specific to the car it was initially tuned for, most will give you an idea of base line mods supported when chipped, but at end of day, its still someone else's car mods and if u use it, have to be sure its suitable for your mods.. if u have bought it, maybe a dyno run to confirm safe afr's

nah havent bought one...

im just asking coz ive seen afew r32 gtrs running Mines chipped ecus with stage one mods makin sum descent power

dont know how there AFR's are and fuel economy though...

so im guessing an apexi safc would be a wise move?

My car had an IMPUL piggy back ECU. It was making decent power but leaning the engine off it tits due to it being tuned for 102 octane (Jap premium). Not sure if the mine's computers are tuneable but this one certainly wasn't, so it had to go.

I have just sourced myself a brand new APexi Neo - Will be getting that tuned soon.

My car made 175rwkw with just a catback and cheap pod. My tuner reckns he can net me 220rwkw on a rich tune. Ill see. i just want a safe "semi-rich" tune.

ive also got a series 2 r33 gtst, if i can get anything above 200rwkw i'l be happy as larry !

only mods are full 3" turbo back stainless exhaust, 3" high flow cat, pod/cold air intake, cooling pro bar n plate front mount, turbotech boost controller at 10psi and exedy sports tuff clutch..

im willing to run around 12psi....ive made my mind not to get a chipped ecu from ebay, rather spend the money on a safc and get it tuned specificaly for my car/mods

cheers

ps. are all those ecu's with chips locked? no tuner here in aus can retune them?

There's not much difference between having some remap a stock ecu or an already chipped ecu, an eeprom still has to be burnt and soldered directly to the board or dropped into a cradle (most use cradles as the use a romulator to tune then burn a chip when done).

IMO, don't bother with a generic chipped ecu. Buy the safc and have it tuned on a dyno.

a chipped ecu from japland tuned for x x x mods would be ok, but youd still want a safc at the least to make sure fueling is spot on

a haltech interceptor (safc / sitc + more in one) might be a better option on your stock ecu

or talk to Toshi about redoing your ecu chip (I did that !!! so happy, and with safc/sitc can get a top tune)

so many options these days, cheapest is safc only

then ebay ecu + safc

or ebay ecu + haltech interceptor

or Toshi remap (fine if he's there, mine was long distance tune so still need the safc/sitc for minor adjustments)
