i thought of this today while defect-proofing my car.

-remove the bonnet stand

-friendly hwp officer (concerned about harmful emissions) wants a look at your under bonnet party

-gets a tired arm from holding up bonnet

-cant get head down to have a good look around the engine bay

-can no longer hold up bonnet

-lets you go and defects your oversize wheels instead

no bonnet stand ftw!

They will probably send you for inspection over the pits at a later date..

why cant they be friendly copz? "hey mate, sorry for the delay, im required to perform this breath test as part of our drink driving preventative measures. thanks, you can now be on your way. nice 'line by the way."

i would be the nicest cop ever. id harass commodores with mismatching wheels, and unroadworthy shitboxes. oh and hatchbacks with cannons.

:( If only it was that simple.

Actually funny story once, after i sold my s15 for a new BMW 325i I was pulled over for a breath test and the officer was soooooo polite; completely not what i was used to.

He called me 'sir' and i had to quickly glance at my passenger seat to make sure i didnt have anyone else with me lolz!

Im thinking jeeeezus the day I dont have a sportscar im 'sir' all of a sudden, better change then "licence, pop bonnet, bend over, blow in this." lolz

Bend Over??? WTF!

What's BEND OVER got to do with it? :(

Obviously you've never been pulled over by more then one officer at a time...

obviously it was light-hearted in nature. if they were determined to reap revenue from you im sure a missing bonnet stand wouldnt stop them.

Lolz when they search for internal contraband.

Now you know what they mean by the long arm of the law!

Cop: Ok you'll feel some pressure, Im just looking around

Victim: For what a parking spot, get it out

OK sorry Johnny,

Signing Off,

Generation 'W'

take the bus ahhaha true... yeh a few friends of mine years ago in some serious vl's used to say the bonnet release as stuffed so they would get a $75 fine, could been alot worse with everything under the bonnet counted, but no defect.

comin back from melbourne in the 33 with the mrs, got pulled over 3 times for RBT one stop had at least 2 cops, they were all grinning but the lady cop was nice and i didnt get anything.

Drove my mums beemer out in town once, cops did a u turn, followed me for ages, pulled me over to ask me whos car it is. then breathe tested me, searched it etc. the day i got off my p's not even the slightest glance.

hmm the fact that they make U open the bonnet is one thing thats wrong with that and the other is that if u dont have a bonnet stand they will make U hold it open so u will b the one with the sore arms from holding it open :P

yeh but i hurt my shoulder at work and cant do any heavy lifting...

they cant make you open the bonnet or hold it. if they want to have a look then they can do so all by themself. last time i popped it, but the cop actually went to the front and lifted it i think.

next time im going to flat out refuse. i figure they cant actually forcibly open your bonnet without a warrant, and i can easily say, "do you do this to everyone you pull over? no? well, ive got more important things to do, you can admire my car another time. good day officer."

Prior to that, what if you can't find the bonnet-release ???

That actually worked for my wife, she was coming back from work in the 33 and got pulled over. Knowing that since she was driving a "pick me" car much like the harassment we got when whenever we drove the Torana around.

But this time since she'd never popped the hood, she didn't actually know where the release leaver was. (albeit she didn't open her eyes to look for it). The nice Mr Plod, got annoyed with her and just let her go with a few words of advice about modifications.

    • OK, that is a helpful description, because that sounds exactly like a bleeding issue in the clutch....these are hard to bleed manually even when the damping loop has been removed. I'd suggest bleeding again....start by filling the master cylinder up and opening the bleed nipple. Come back and check every now and then that the master cylinder is not empty. Let it gravity bleed for a few hours and see if that improves
    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
