Found out I had a 2 way diff in my 1998 r33 spec 2 gts-t and the judder was really starting to annoy me as I only use the car for every day. So I got a normal diff off a guy who was breaking a 1997 R33 spec 2 gts-t, went to install it and realised its different.

The diff I bought is about an inch shorter than diff in my car. The diff in my car seems to have a sensor where the diff meets the drive shaft, this is where my diff is an inch longer than the other diff I got to put in. Photo's below shows where my diff is longer and that sensor near the drive shaft.

What is this sensor? How come these diff's are completely different, when they are bought off a spec 2. Is one from a spec 1? Or is it off a R33 GTR? Or is it off a automatic or something?

Anybody shed some light on this??

The part number on the casing of the diff in my car is: "443 KN52 - 81" cant see the other number on the other side of diff as its in the car facing up.

The part number on the casing of the replacment diff is: "351 KN3 - 6429" on one side of diff, then on the other side is "3831143M02"

Thanks

Alan

You should be able to swap the internals.

Actually, I don't think that is an ABS sensor (don't know what it is though). The ABS sensors are usually on the output of the diff. The bit highlighted would appear to be something hydraulic.

Thanks blind_elk, was talking to another guy and he seems to think it is a oil cooling line?

Do anyone have a rear diff casing like this, becuase from what im told (dont know if this is right) but the diff casing i have is off a gtr vspec.

Are you sure it is not the speed sensor for the S15 diff? I have that same sensor on my S15 helical diff. I just check one side of my S15 diff and the number is 38311 43M4(5/S) not sure whether a '5' or an 'S'. I know for certain it is an S15 helical.

I cant check the part number on the casing, its facing up to the car, might be able to check this weekend. Do you have a picture of an s15 diff?

I wonder why is has a s15 running gear, is this bad? I know over here that s15 are uswed more that skyline for difting.

I can't say for sure if yours is an S15 diff but I am just saying I am sure that mine is. I am not sure if there are any skylines like the R33 GTR that have the same speed sensor setup that is linked the the instrument panel otherwise the speedometer does not work.

I might be a bit late....but didn't 33 gtst only have 3 channel ABS? ie only one sensor at the rear? There is an active diff r33 which is very different to the normal diff, if so you should have an "A-LSD" light on the dash, and there will also by hydraulic lines and a pump on the rear and top of the diff.

In any case, to replce a tight diff you only need to change the centre, and they are pretty interchangeable
