I think maybe u missing the cat and running too rich mate!!

But that's good, my car have a 1/2m dia. fire ball when dyno

If you want to stop the backfire, buy a SAFC or have ur ECU chiped. it can allows u to set the fuel and air ratio. U can come to BMT and ask for DR. Drift in Melbourne

hey thx ppl for the advice...

I'm waiting for the SAFC ... hey r32impul.. how much is it to get a chipped ECU from BMT ? i just want to know the price. I think i should go get the car checked out from a professional just in case. Dont wanna do shit myself since i know shit about car.

Friend said that if i dont get the backfiring sound outta the way, it mite blow my cat convertor and its gonna waste more money then fixing it now.

LoL sorry this is a stoopid question, what does rich and lean mean when its about engines? To fix that u need a SAFC ?

=] thx ppl

Rich means more fuel in your fuel air mix, lean means less. The SAFC will allow you to tune your mix thus stopping the back fire.

The stock computer calculates air using your air flow meter, and assumes the air will still be around when your throttle body closes. Hence it puts more fuel into the mix.

(well put simply.. if anyone was to elaborate be my guest)

hey guys - sorry but i am worse than charlie34.

So the backfire is caused by the car running rich (can it be cos of the 3" dump back i got and no electronic supports??) and that is causing the detonation of unburnt fuel in the exhaust? So any sort of management that will alter the air/fuel ratios to let it run more lean should eliminate this right?

PM me for discussion on your options for a R34. Had another 34 GTT in the other day that was detonating severly as someone had moved the CAS.... looks like a checkup on the dyno has aved him a motor....

Doc.

    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
    • I've been quietly following this thread for ages, but this one got me. Since my ADHD diagnosis (and associated learnings and prescription) I'm way less inclined to wade into forum yarns when there are better things to do with my time, as half the time I'd end up in some kind of forum debate even if that wasn't my intention. I've not lost the ADHD "superpowers", just am a lot better at directing my hyperfocus into slightly more constructive things, but haven't stopped quietly lurking in here in my spare time.
    • Stripped the tank down and gave it a good scrub. It came up really good! Not sure if I'll just put it back in like that or give it a blackening treatment (such as Bowdens The Black Box). That might give it a matte look so might just run it as is.
    • @MBS206 Ha ha, yeah ADHD is a daily battle to not get drawn in to doing things you want to do that you know you shouldn't do!  Every single time I walk into my shed I end up doing something I started the day having zero intention of doing! I keep mentioning the 1 step forward, 3 steps back scenario and I'm tipping people that are blessed with ADHD (yes, blessed) are the worst at that!
    • We import a lot of cars from Japan. I'd say that approximately 20% of our traffic is imported JDM cars (mainly consumer cars like the Mazda Demio, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift, etc.). We also import a lot from the UK, but this has decreased after Brexit. Apart from the consumer vehicles, two of the larger, well-known dealerships frequently import iconic '80s/'90s JDM cars. I haven't heard of anyone importing from Australia, and they are not advertised (unlike Japanese ones), despite a lot of Maltese migrating to Australia in the '50s and '60s.
