Just got a call from vicroads saying that someone had tried to register a vehicle with the same VIN and engine number as my mums car, its not a skyline or any thing just a commodore.

They told me to let her know and to go into our nearest vicroads and get it checked.

So what could this mean?? is this bad for my mum?

Well it could be one of two things.

1. Your mums car is a rebirth or dodgy rego

2. The car attempting to be registered today was dodgy.

Hence why Vicroads wants to see it, and if its dodgy, they'll take the car on the spot :(

It happened with my brothers VY SS ute. There was a car in Perth that had the chassis number recorded incorrectly from the very start. The car was sold to a new owner and they tried t oregister it. The numbers where 2 digits different, but some how they were recorded the same. He took his car to Vicroads, they inspected it and gave him the all clear. They contacted him the next day to let him know that the other car's vin number was recorded incorrectly.
