Hey all,

ive got a 1992 model r32 gts-t. being a little older though there is afew issues with some things that are getting worn. i have attemped to fix most of it but im sick of spending my only free time on it with no results i was wondering if anyone here is able to fix them, or if you know of a good mechanic etc that can. will pay you cash in hand obviously. the issues so far are as follows:

drivers side and passenger door locks - dont lock with the alarm, have to manual push button over.

drivers side window - wont go down, pretty sure this is the rails.

air con - no cold air, sometimes only super hot.

drivers side door hinge - has dropped alot

like i said ive tried my hand at all of it with no sucess and just want it done now,

i live locally to frankston in victoria, any help would be great, thanks guys:)

Ok here we go, ill try to cover all of it but we'll see how i go,

drivers side and passenger door locks- Can you hear the motors moving in the doors when you lock them, but they dont actually lock? or are they just not making a noise at all? If answer a) then it sounds like the motors, and the linkages which actuate the locking mechanism in the door are either broken, or have come loose. I had this happen in my car. It is as easy as taking the door trim off (few screws and popping a few clips out) and looking at the mechanism. In my case it was the part which joined to linkages together via a screw which had come loose. I simply screwed them back in with a bit of loctite/silicon and she was as good as new. If you answer was b) then your electric motors in the door are stuffed and you need new ones. If you know what brand your alarm is go to the local autoparts store which stocks your alarm and ask them about replacement motors. You can even just use generic type motors but this can be a pain in the arse to fit.

drivers side window- Similar to the previous answer, can you hear the motor in the door working or not? If so then yes there is something which has come loose regarding the pulley system in the door which moves the window up and down and will need to be fixed. Iv looked inside the door at this stuff and i dont like the look of playing with it all. However, it can be done. Best thing to do is take the door trim off, and stick your head around there and see what is going on. If you cant hear the motor working, then it is obviously the motor or both the motor and the pulley system which is not working. In which case you will require a new motor.

aircon-no cold air-sometimes hot-- In this case, there could be a numerous amount of things that could be wrong. Your best bet is to do a diagnostic check. Search something like "32 air con diagnostic" or the like, and you will get a list of things to do in order to check the system. This will spit out errors regarding several sensors etc and will give you an insight into what is going wrong. Failing that, take it to an aircon place.

Drivers door hing has dropped a lot- I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but i will try to give you a decent answer. This sounds like one of the three pivot points at the door root has come loose or is not properly attached. Either that or is suffering fatigue. If the first answer is the case, see if you can get in there and see what it loose, if something is loose, tighten it up, but not too tight otherwise this will cause it to bind and make the door harder to close from excessive friction. If its metal fatigue, then the most you can do is try to bend the hinge up. *****HOWEVER****** and this is a big IF...if you do this, you will be work hardening (im assuming they are made from steel) the metal, of which the hinge or mounting point will only take a few adjustments before you excceed the elastic limit of which the joint will deform and attempting to bend the joint back will only eventuall break the joint (think like bending a paper clip numerous times until it snaps). Do this at your own risk!

Hope i was of some help

thanks guys your a credit to these forums.

i'll definately try the stuff you mentioned with the locks that sounds simple enough i can hear the locks working.

as for the ac i ahve run those diagnostics and tried a couple of fixes but with no sucess, im pretty sure its one of the sensors but then it comes good after a while and the control arm seems fine, maybe a job for the pro's.

and the window is a load of shit, im pretty sure i could fix that if i could firgure out how to get the damn thing out but its in there good if anyone knows how??

thanks for the help again guys i'll push on:)

    • This could be sold and shipped to the US for many gold pieces. RMS has no say in that. Ask various Western Sydney inhabitants how it works.
    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
