Bakes
I was told to buy a 1/2 inch Torque Rench to tighten up my Rays nuts. The Torque Rench has Foot Pound Settings from 10 to 150 Do I just whack it on 150 which is the max or does someone know the exact foot pound setting to use? Thanks Nuts are the open ended ones, see pic Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/245642-foot-pound-setting-for-tightening-rays-nuts/ Share on other sites
djr81
100 to 120Nm. Or more commonly whatever the numpty at the tyre shop manages with his rattle gun. Bakes
So 90 foot pounds? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/245642-foot-pound-setting-for-tightening-rays-nuts/#findComment-4272724 Share on other sites
djr81
Buy a bloody metric torque wrench otherwise your Nissan will explode. 100Nm = 74 lbft. 120Nm = 89 lbft. So yeah anything from 75 to 90 will be ok. Just make sure you do them up in the right order. Duncan
hahah spot on nissan's can't count in imperial, only metric. you definately do not want aluminium wheel nuts done up with a rattle gun, they will stuff them first time they go on. SSHatch
Even in the workshop manual it says the same thing. Its only a given torque based on the size and thread of the stud and nut. Wheel nut torque: 98 - 118nm, 10 - 12 kg-m, 72 - 87 ft-lb Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/245642-foot-pound-setting-for-tightening-rays-nuts/#findComment-4277261 Share on other sites

Cassbo
Cheers guys, have tightened them to 65fp or 88Nm. I should "borrow" a torque wrench from work to tighten up my Rays wheel nuts. Long story short, I tighten my nuts up to a metric |----------this much----------| (or an imperial |----------that many----------|) using a 12" slider bar with a 12" piece of square section, and it worries me every single time lol Using my system probably only puts out about 90 Nms, assuming I only stand on my bar and not push/jump on it lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/245642-foot-pound-setting-for-tightening-rays-nuts/#findComment-4285549 Share on other sites
Bakes
Have now tightened them to 80Fp. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/245642-foot-pound-setting-for-tightening-rays-nuts/#findComment-4287677 Share on other sites
Kinks
You don't need a torque wrench, just tighten them until you see Ray wince. That's enough.
