Hi people, been a while, hope you're well.

As the owner of an R33GTS-t for almost 5 years (and proudly so), I'm looking to trade up.

My next car will be the V35, (I just absolutely love it)... in what spec, I know not yet. (auto, man etc)...but it has to be a 3.5 litre, I know that much.(so many options for these things!!..I thought the 33 had so many!)

My point, specifically, is do you think that there will be a time that the V35 variant will be the new R32,3,4 in as far as commonality is concerned?......Do you think the the V35 platform (being a very different platform to the 'halcyon' days type turbo models) would be a pleasing to the current 2,3,4 owners, or is it too far different to be considered a step up?

I wonder if I'm making sense here?

Currently the V35 (03 to 05's) can be bought from 28k to 35k (the ones I'm interested in), but ofcourse comes a time when they will be much cheaper....

Now to connect up my question....

Would the typical TURBO Skyline owner be looking to the V35 as a step up...or would they consider the GTR variant of their current car a step up?

In 5 years will I start to see thrashed and smashed V35's with more K-tel clip-on mods than a Hyandai from Geelong?

Do (some) people see the V35 as 'not a real' Skyline???

Is it simply the price of an R33 (so low nowadays, I bought mine for 25k!!) that makes them popular...will the V35 go the same way?

oh shit....I prolly shouldn't post when I've been drinking...f**k it...there it is.....

I thankyou for reading my post.....cheers.

Guys, respectfully, I have no interest (hey, it's my thread!..lol!) in any other car other than the Skline platform....that'll just complicate an already complicated topic.

Very good answers though so far.....and exactly what I am aiming for...your actually feelings/thoughts are so appreciated, I thankyou!

Going to test 2 V35's tonite, one with auto and other with man....both 3.5, both silver and both fresh from Nippon.

$28k to 30k....

It depends on in what direction those people are tending to in life. Some people get older and move on from being a boy racer. Some people get older and move on from going as "slowly" as they do in a GTS-t.

If they've decided the GTS-t isn't fast enough, they'll go to a GT-R. If they get over the noise and discomfort but still want something swift, luxurious and a decent drive but without the BMW price tag, they'll get a V platform Skyline (the V36 is out now, and it's a gem).

hahaha!,.....perfect!.....I fear that I'm the former!!

I commute a lot in my current job which combined with the insurance premiums of a GTR led me to skip them altogether and I never warmed to the v35 so I went with the 350z.

Back with the Skyline family now and couldn't be more happier. And in an Auto to boot, never thought I'd see the day...

The car looks great, sounds fantastic and drives very nicely with more than enough grunt for what I need.

Not as chuckable as my old r34 or 350z as the turn in isn't as sharp but it still has good handling dynamics which means it's easily controllable when the tail end pulls out. Only criticism is even when you turn off the VDC in the v36 it only reduces the sensitivity of the system you can still get the tail end out, but it doesn't actually turn off, believe me I've tried

It's definitely 'grown up' from the R series, and unless you modified your r33 say in the regions of 240+kw you won't be disappointed with the stock power, the VQ has nice torque band that some people say kind of sacrifices top end a little bit, but unless you're on a track it doesn't matter, on the road the power is useable as well as smooth. You'll find this out for yourself tonight :P

Other than that the V35 will have better interior being newer of course, much more stable chassis.

They are fun to drive, the only reason I opted for a z instead of the v35 was purely a case of personal preference to styling

If the setup on the braking electronics is unchanged from the V35/Z33, there's a way you can completely disable it without needing to cut anything.....but you will lose your speedo and your ABS.

Definitely a skidpan-only proposition :)

The VDC controlled FM platforms were the same. The button only turns down the sensitivity, and re-engages if you tap the brakes.

Thanx so much YOYO....thanx for your time and explanations, very nice!...

I can't wait to take them out tonite!

I went from a 33 to a V35 and the car wasn't for me.

Actually went to an auto V35 for six months, then a manual V35 for six months and in the end have gone back to a 32 GTR.

The cars are fantastic as a cruiser but for me they just didn't have that "edge" if that makes sense.

I'm like you and really only look at Skyline's for my cars and the V35 seemed very appealing. Personally i enjoy the odd track day as well, and as good as the V35 was, it just didn't put that smile on my face that the 32 does.

Would i buy one again? If i could afford to have it as well as teh GTR, no doubt about it, and I'll probably get the V37 for the misses in the near future.

My 2c.

ah yes.....you make complete sense Nis!.....(this is what I'm talkin about!).....

I feel what you're saying mate, and understand that I could feel the same way.. (I undrstand the 'edge' bit!!)...I've decided (pre-decided) on the manual.

The price of CVR (should anything go wrong) scares the begeesus out of me...plus I'm still young enough to mash gears!!

It's funny how the manuals are fetching bigger $$$$.......supply and demand maybe?

Still, with an open mind I drive tonite, much fun to be had, mmmmh...yes!

i agree. if the V35 was quicker than my skyline and had extensive exterior modifications i would consider that a step up otherwise a GTR R34 would be a definite step up. i dont even think a R33 GTR would be a step up from my car anymore unless it had a fair bit of money spent on it.

CVT only comes in the sedans. The coupe just comes with a regular slusho.

Like I said, if you want a luxo GT you get the V35. It doesn't have edges, it's got cuddly rounded curves. Unless you really want RWD and you're willing to modify the buggery out of it (twin turbos, interior stripping) the car will feel boring in comparison.

Had R33GTS'T for 7 years. Still miss it in some ways. But V35 is definitely a Step up. Do not be fooled- this is definitely quicker than a R33 (gtst). about 1/2 second to hundred & the qtr.-Its refined, better bottom end torque and still revvs to 7 grand. So shes extremely flexible. Handles as well (if not quite as sharp). The balance, steering and braking of the car is much better and easier to live with. Obviously if you want the "bullet" you go the GTR's, but thats another ballgame. I dont think the V35 will sell as much as the R33 as the R33 was more ..."racier" and had a broader appeal to younger guys. But the V35 is a better car all round..looks included & I thought I would never say that.

I know I'll miss so many aspects of the 33...I love the car...never an ounce of issue....smooth, fast(enuff for me!), handles like a train,...it's just killing my back...(due for surgery in a few weeks (I'm shit scared))....I could never own the home grown stuff...I've been way too spoilt by the silvia's and skline's over the past 10 years.

I'm getting older....and I feel that I'm changing, evolving...into what?....who cares.....

Off I go to test these frigin things!!!...wooohoo!

Off I go to test these frigin things!!!...wooohoo!

ok...here are some quick pics of the car I tested and generally checked out...oh...and bought.

Everything was how I wanted it...dint free, perfect paint, FULL LEATHER INTERIOR, 6 SPEED, xenon lamps, 3.5 LTR ENGINE.....AND A SHITLOAD OF OTHER SHIT!

PLUS...no bullshit LCD screen or overly complicated stereo that needed converting in order to work(!).....just perfect!! (what I wanted anyway..!)

I paid a little more for the leather interior (and 6 speeder) but it was the best I had seen, and the guy loved my 33, so I traded that in...saved alot of red tape..got 12k too!

Anyway..I thankyou guys for allowing me to mull over your thoughts and ideas (they seemed to come from your hearts, aswell as your heads!)...thankyou.....

I'm really f**kin excited..!

Cheers me matey's...

SS..

ps..it's a 2003 model with 32k on the cock.

What can one say ... sex on wheels. A great looking car that I'm sure will bring the same smile, if not bigger, to your face as the R33.

wow!.....thankyou Sullivan....it is!...and it does!......

Glad to hear your happy with your new ride!!!!

Me, i don't really like the look of them, they don't seem to go with the "skyline" look that the 31-34 have.

Using this style the new R35 GTR should still be a skyline, ( I am happy it's not)

I have not driven one so my opinion is purely visual.

I intend to 'upgrade' from my R33 GTST to a R34 GTR V-spec 2. That has all the luxury I need and the grunt to boot!! however still at $60k.

I think the interior looks like it should be in a camry or something. A skyline to me is a Race/Sports car for the street, not a comfy cruiser..

I hope you still love yours for a long time to come...

forgot to say:

I dont think the V35 will end up as common as the rest unless a new market takes hold of it.

    • Starting with issues 1 - 5, we have already run into a problem...!  Issue #4 contained 2x front brake calipers, instead of 1 caliper and 1x steering knuckle. Will have to call DeAgostini on Monday to sort it out. Anyway here's some photos.  Issue #1 is the front bumper, headlights and number plate. Issue #2 is the front wheel (with "We produced with spartan air." text on the centre cap!) and tyre, the front lip spoiler and cylinder head cover with ignition coils under the centre cover... which will never be seen again. Issue #3 is the bonnet and cylinder head. Issue #4 is the front strut, brake disc (with laser etched metal discs) and brake caliper. I stopped here because of the issue with the missing steering knuckle.  Next update will be #5 - #10 in a few weeks.
    • DeAgostini is one of a few companies that release quite large (the largest commonly available size actually) 1/8 scale models in a series of weekly issues over 100 - 110 instalments.  They release different models for different markets and DeAgostini Japan have release the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo last month. I've made two of these 1/8 scale sized cars (one an R35 GT-R from 2012 - 2014, the other I'm just about halfway through, a BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the 2Fast 2Furious movie) so when this R32 was announced there was no way I could ignore it as it's my favourite out of all Nissans.  Each issue costs around $20 so it costs about $2.2K when completed. I suppose it is very expensive for what it is, but the quality and details are really very good, and there are many "gimmicks" like fully functioning exterior and interior lights operated with a remote control, working steering, all doors/bonnet/boot/fuel lid open and close, the side mirrors fold in and it even has a speaker for the engine revving sounds when you turn the lights on.  Each issue comes with a magazine that tells the story of the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo from the first design stages of the BNR32 to Group A homologation and the various racing version that were run in the Japanese Group A and JGTC, and Australian Group A.  So I plan to update the build in this thread 5 issues at a time.  https://deagostini.jp/r32/?srsltid=AfmBOooKjxDc4EUK2rmXqMBPgyHfFJ24s4oEPJBNpnF-lFlsRoW0PE6P
    • As per title.. has anyone used so far? Keen to hear results, comparisons. In the market for a new mani for my new turbo. Any issues cracking?
    • Re read everything that has been written about this in this thread.. Let us know if you're still confused.
    • This would be a new pump with new gears. I'm just unclear on whether it's a good idea to run more oil pump flow if you don't actually need said flow. Oil level is set a minute or so after shutting off a warm engine so wouldn't the high RPM oil level in the sump end up lower all things equal? Plan is OEM clearances, main concern in my mind is whether the OEM pump can keep up with the flow requirements of any additional oil coolers.
