hi i have a RB25DET and it is stock really. and i was thinking about replacing the turbo with a supercharger like the ones that they use in the holden LS supercharger upgrades that u can get. and it would be nice to know if any body else has put a supercharger on, if it will work, what i will need, and what do i expect to get out of it.

im looking a supercharging it because as i understand it a turbo restricts the exhaust and has two turbines one to power the other which will lower the efficiency of the turbo especially in low rpm were as supercharger will be powered by a belt and is most likely to be more efficient.

if i am way of track then plz tell me

and yes i have seen

i am looking a the performance between a turbocharger and a supercharger and also the price difference and what is needed for a upgrade

a supercharger is basically a boring version of a turbocharger.

its good for low down power but the top end is no where near as fun.

it takes power from the crank and uses that to suck in air and force it in

a turbo uses exhaust gasses that are already there.

get in a car with a real turbo and see what you think :ermm:

if you really wanna make it worthwhile it from the ground up with a 3lt bottom end stroker kit, twin turbo and a centrifugal supercharger running into a positive displacement supercharger :ermm:

hope you brought your wallet

a friend of mine had a supercharged rb25/30 in his vl commy. The amount of time and money it cost was really not worth it. Basically everything needed to be custom made and fabricated, even down to the supercharger. Dont get me wrong, the car went really well, but its a lot cheaper and easier to upgrade the turbo on an rb25

Depends on how much your willing to spend to be different

Incorrect, a turbocharger is more efficient because it is using something from the engine to make power which is not being used for anything else ie. exhaust gases.

Some people were all into doing this on their N/A VL's 3 or 4 years ago, basically isn't worth it for the cost, especially on a small displacement motor. Their usefulness on V8s is even being brought into question with the proliferation of reletively cheap off the shelf turbo kits floating around these days.

i ran a torana at speedway many yrs ago that run a gm 471 blower with a ait split pulse t4 turbo blowing into the top of the blower .

it was awseome to drive the blower got it of the line like a cat with deep heat on it;s balls and the turbo kept enough air into it down the straights . it was a old 186 block with a 221 falcon crank with a alloy phill irvin head and mechanical endlee methanol injection .

got 3 seasons out of that set up b4 it dropped the crank out of the block every thing was custom made and cost a mint back then but you could not buy anything off the shelf . won many a race beating 350 powered cars i loved it lol

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
