Gt35r Vs Garrett T04z - Discussion (just Post In This Thread To Create A Database)

Recommended Posts

Brockas mine will be being re-tuned in the next week or two aswell so should have another 26/to4z to compare too.

using a turbosmart 48mm and avcr.. so will be interesting to see the boost curve aswell, what wastegate are you running?

Good to see a back to back comparison there. Even though the setup could be improved, presumably the improvements would effect both dyno plots. the results are pretty much what I expected - 500-600rpm more lag, 70-100 more hp in the top end.

We are pulling the t04z off my car in the next few weeks and we're going to put on one of the new GT3788R's. Should be very interesting to see what it can do. I will try to get back to back graphs.

The graph of 1bxx056 looks pretty much identicle to mine. Would be good to see that overlayed against a really properly setup 35r on good manifolds etc.

That would be tops !!

Are the GT37 available in t3 rear housing ?

GT35 FTW !

Just got mine done, Injectors now all in and tuned up.

Was tuned by Andy at hyperdrive but run up at allstar due to some wheel spin fun.

Now 561 rwhp up from 450rwhp !!

20-21 psi boost.

Still a stock jap import RB26(including stock cams n cams gears) with just bolt on gt35 turbo and injectors.

This car has gone well over 600rwhp on an RB25 with GT35 and E85, Ultra reliable engine into its 4th season racing, we run it at 600rwhp as its a very basic RB25.

RB34 coming this season with a Housing change on the GT35.

Here's a copy of the graph.

With a built motor i'd be enjoying this all day every day

Mmm is that more then Cerbera's Built 26 with T04z ?????

Thats a very interesting change to make - what motivated that, and what are you hoping from it vs the T04Z? Are they both T3 flanged? I've often wondered about the GT3788Rs but not been too sure on what to expect... a comparison I've always been very curious about is the GT4088R and the T04Z.

my t04z is a split pulse t4 flange - same as the GT3788. The 4088R is a bigger turbo than the T04Z (compressor and turbine) so it will flow more HP, with a tiny bit more lag.

Main reason for doing the swap is simply that the Z is too doughy out of medium tight corners around the track. IE: turns 3/4 @ QR I take at about 80km/hr. 2nd gear == massive tailslide on exit, whilst 3rd gear == LAG all the way out of the corner. Hopefully the new turbo is not only slightly more responsive, but a lot more linear in power delivery. I make 1 bar at 4100rpm with the Z and 24psi at 4500. Thats not too laggy, but as soon as you go below 4000 rpm there is absolutely nothing there. I wouldnt care too much if the 3788 only makes 1 bar at 4000rpm as long as 3800/3900 still had SOMETHING available unlike the Z which comes on like a lightswitch once you get over 4.

The only unfortuante thing is that I wont be able to directly compare how the 2 turbo's would have worked on the track as I'm making some other significant changes to the car at the same time. So wont be able to say if the 3788 is soley responsible for better lap times, but hopefully combined with everything else we are doing it makes a big difference.

Still probably a couple of weeks away from doing the swap - will see how we go.

    • The issue still requires a human to get all the logic right, and each thing being done takes up processing power. Meaning less processing power for other tasks to occur too. It also typically means a team of size 10, is working one everything, vs 5x teams of 3 working on separate products, so less man power to review and perfect it all.   That's the typical issue of AIO. It's also why manufacturers of cars even split tasks out into separate systems, and share data as required
    • Lol, i have and you can buy them in adelaide more just curious if anyone has tested this one in particular
    • Isn't the whole point of this integrated circuit thing to put a bunch of hardware all in one little package? Integration also brings its own benefits, at least in theory. If you were to put an electronic wastegate or do an N54-style vacuum wastegate that is normally fully open but closes under vacuum integrating everything allows you to do tricks like full wastegate bypass at cold start to warm the cats or in eco-mode under a certain torque request to reduce exhaust pumping resistance. Or full bypass as a limp mode if a certain amount of knock is detected. Or managing the compressor so it never reaches the surge point. None of this is strictly necessary per se but standalones generally have good enough boost control. PID control isn't exactly some crazy difficult problem to solve.
    • You've never bought something online before?
    • Hello everybody. I have no idea where to get a ethanol tester besides online and want to run a e30 mix in my bmw m2. In order for my calculator to work i need to know what ethanol rating the e85 pump is and this is my local station would anyone know or is it negligible to find specifically. Thanks🙂
