Gt35r Vs Garrett T04z - Discussion (just Post In This Thread To Create A Database)

ok lets look at overall average power to see whats quicker from a to b

the gt35 has approx 15hp more between 3200 and 4200

while the t04z has approx 50hp more between 4500 to 8000

i dont know about you but if ur punting a rb26 you will spend 90% of your time on full throttle above 4500rpm

How many times do people need to be told the mid range for the 35r is off due to the boost control? I havent even mentioned the 10.8-10.9 air fuel ratio's yet. Or the fact we didnt spend any time adjusting cams thanks to the rubber delaminating when it was originally tuned.

How about we start comparing apples with apples.

Rezlo, considering you were making only 340rwkw with your 35r I might suggest it wasnt setup particularly well and isnt a good comparison. Perhaps post more details so your not misleading people.

I've come from a poorly setup gt35r which was boring as bat shit (xr6 3540) to my current setup and the difference is chalk and cheese.

archieS had a t04z - next time i see/talk to him ill get him to get the graph and post it if he does

was a stock enough 2.6ltr with just a t04z on the side to add to this.

I was making 340rwkw with the 35r? maybe if your going to dig up old posts you want to actualy check thats what I did with the GT30 on the stock 25 with an 11.6 1/4 mile to boot... that was the last time i had my car on a dyno.

My 35R setup was put onto a built motor and almost identical design manifold to when i upgraded to the T04z (my T04z is twin scroll)and it didnt have a 100mm DP and 1000cc injectors... thats about it... RB25 + T04z with @ 2 bar by 4300rpm... I can not see how you say that is misleading anyone.

Again, maybe its just me but im pretty sure when people actualy drive their cars fast they dont keep it under 4500rpm? or maybe you guys race like F&F where half way into the race you change down a gear and put your foot down?

Someone get me the dyno graphs of a T04Z running 20+psi on a 2.6L with no headwork, and 35R running 20+psi on a 2.6L with no headwork.

Its not as easy as you think, hence why I used Nik's and Cerbera's graphs, closest compo I could find, but still FAR from perfect.

By the way, before you all think im a GT35R hater,, im actualy not, I fit them to most the SR20's I build,,, hell a GT35R on a built SR20 is one whole shit load of fun!!! somthing about that 4potter at 1.7 1.8bar makes me smile...

Anna's GT35R (assuming that is the GT35R Dave is talking about) has a .63 rear i wouldn't expect it to make much more than the 345 it did make.

Hmmm the general consensus seams to be pro-T04z :P

For those of you who may not know - I'm deciding between a:

GT3076r (probably the best size but limited for the amount of money spent)

GT3582r (the next best size, but descibed as "boring" by more than one person. Loses too many RPM at gearshifts etc....etc)

....and the mighty T04z (possibly too big for my hp goal but described as fun and exciting lol)

For a maximum horsepower goal of around 450-500 at the treads. That maximum figure will be reached later on down the track as I don't have the biggest budget so for the time being it will probably be no more than 400 or so. For my power goal the GT35r seams to be ideal however everyone (including my tuner) describes it as "boring".

Decisions decisions :cool:

Anyway yeah it was a whole lot of fun with that power but not suited to my application which was circuit.

As i have said in a previous post in this thread, u can't race a dyno graph and it's all about average power for circuit.

wrxkilla, i'd stick with the 35 if i was you :cool:

Good idea - start a poll for GT3076R, GT3582R and T04Z :)

A .63a/r GT3582R will choke it a bit, I'd go a .82a/r on an RB26. I can understand why people would call the GT3582Rs "boring" as they are very competant about their power delivery, they don't "snap" onto boost - more NA in their power delivery instead of snapping onto full boost. I'd personally call a GT3076R a bit on the small side for a GTR.

Yeh a pole wouldn't be bad but you'd probably want to start a new thread for that. Yeh Lithium, I wasn't even concidering anything smaller than the 0.82A/R for the GT3582R. Queensland Raceway has a very nice straight and it would be a pitty if the car was a bit choked.

gt3076r gets my vote for what you want!!!

been in many a car with gt3582r, including sr's, rb25's, rb26's and 2jz's....

none have impressed me much at all, but someone told me nick was taking me for a lap at motorvation this weekend to prove me wrong :D

I'm still astounded by the lack of love of the GT35Rs on here, I wonder what the story is - for AGES (and with good reason) they have been one of those turbos which is an "easy bet". They are for everyone else in the world a turbo which isn't excessively laggy, very responsive and can make a good amount of power. I've been in and/or drive cars with 1.8litre, 2litre, 2.5, 2.6 and 3litre engines of different sorts running them at anywhere from 270kw to 450kw (yes, 450kw @ wheels- 9second street car stuff in the right setup) and the only ones who said they'd have gone for something different were people who were after 300kw @ wheels tops and were told to get them by people who aren't that clued up on turbos but have in 90% of cases been correct about the choice as they have worked so well on so many other cars...

There is a few Skylines running low 10s in Oz on GT35Rs, and at least one car I know of off the top of my head running 9s over there (and quite a few 9 and 10s cars over here running them) - how many 9 and 10s cars running T04Zs are there? Given they have been around for a while now, if they were that much better they'd be sticking out in the drag results threads etc around the place? All the EVO guys use them on their track cars over here, thats on little 2litre motors and often on tight tracks - hell I have been in a factory displacement EVO street car the owner uses for sealed sprints/hill climbs and that runs a .82a/r GT35R on pump gas. If he can get sufficient response out of it on his 2litre to beat out dedicated race cars etc etc (there have been GTRs running low mount twins etc at some of these events) - I don't know what you guys are doing with your 2.5 to 3litre engines to make them boring and unresponsive.

Running a 9 with a 0.86 GT35R in a 1500+kg car (GTR) ?

I've bought a GT35R, but even I find that pretty hard to believe.

I would have thought a high-10 was a stretch in a street GTR.

    • Yeah pretty impressive hey, good to see quality products not over-shooting their prices. That's what drew me to buy the hypergear turbo, just a shame I've never got the chance to see it in action
    • Thank you GTSBoy and MBS206 I have done the compression test with the motor out of the vehicle, reason for the test was to see if I needed to remove the head and do rings etc while its out. I'm in the process of respraying the vehicle and tidying up a few things. Story behind it all is I've just purchased the skyline and it was running when I got it, never drove it on the street though as I wanted to pull it down and do it all up again before registering it. the gentleman I purchased it from told me the motor has a forged bottom end and has a decent tune through it but I was going to pull the sump off anyway to see if it is a forged bottom end. that's why I thought id do a compression test beforehand. 
    • Man, I'm kind of amazed that the price of the turbo has not changed in 7 years. Everything else is inflating beyond reason, but not this? Good on Tao / hypergear I guess? Anyways, good luck with the sale!
    • I'm selling my brand new, in the box, never used Hypergear ATR45 - and I had some additions I paid for a few yrs back when I purchased it. Never ended up having the rest of the money to add all the mods at once, so I just ended up slowly selling each part. I originally had it internally gated, with the dump pipe, however I found it was incompatible with what I was going to use it for, so I contacted (I think Ken) from Hypergear, and he and I messaged back and forth & he got me to ship the turbo back, where they modified it & made it externally gated, and gave me the 5 bolt dump pipe attachment for custom welding. (Photos below) This turbo like I said has never touched the inside of an engine bay, it's completely brand new, never used, been sitting in the same box it arrived in, covered in plastic & all. Below are the photos of it: And while the guys at Hypergear were making it in-shop, they sent me some photos of the process: I'm looking at selling this just because I'm in need of the money right now, and don't have plans on modifying the 34 anytime soon - and from reviews & peformance sheets, this turbo had amazing results back when I was researching. The turbo was purchased in 2018 for $1.9k, with the mods I got added on. Looking at the website now, for the same turbo they sell (ATR45SAT), with the current addons it adds up to $1830 for the turbo Current addons included: - Bolted dump adaptor - Ball bearing CHRA - Braided oil feeding line So I'm looking to possibly sell it for around $1800, with shipping included in that 1.8k, It cost me around $120 to ship - so yeah thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone was interested in purchasing.
