Just a question for all you guys running round the 210 220 230rwkw mark on the rb20

how do you guys compete with the new V8's are they beatable in a drag?? with this power?

reason i ask is that i have around the 240rwkw mark but have a fairly big turbo and its lag city for me at the moment

but i do chomp em once on boost.... (this is at a drag strip for all you young ones)

i am downsizing my turbo and may only have round the 210 mark ( hard to say just yet )

Just wanna know how it will size up with less power i know my boost will come on around 1000rpm earlier but

the initial torque of a V8 will still be in front of my 32 off the line

Will i catch up still you reckon???

old V8's i know are no match but this is all i really care about with my car cause all my mates drive V8's

im a big v8 fanboy so im going to go ahead and say that if you're talking about an 8 such as an ls2 out of a vz clubby or ve you will get pwned.

these things pull like all hell and the ls2's are known to have a much better torque curve compared to ls1's out of lets say a VX (stock offcourse). Yes the skyline will have the power coming on up the top (boost) but the newer 8's pull right from the bottom to past 6k and lets not forget its a 6speed too... i would have thought however that the whole catching up thing would be reversed... ie you charge off the line only to be past by the time you get to 2nd.

LS2 is a great engine no doubting it.

but it is pulling 1700kg +

1290kg RB20...

you have a 400kg advantage.

I don't understand how lag plays a roll in a drag race.

you launch at revs (so on boost on close) and once you are up in the 7000rpm + region, each shift brings you in to the sweet spot of boost and torque.

have a chat to ROY if he doesn't chime in here..

his car power ranges from 240 - 260rwkw depending on his tune at the time.

he's more in a circuit racing, but he may be able to give you some insight.

also, when you say lag city, give us some idea.

what is your 60 foot time?

what revs do you leave the line at?

does it bog down at launch?

does it fry the wheels at launch?

what turbo?

at what revs in 1st gear do you feel the turbo really gets up and going?

Roy mentioned that to get the best out of second gear he has to rev first up to over 8K (8200 or 8300 I seem to remember)

then shift from 2nd to third near 8000rpm again.

then from there he shifts around 7 or just over.

cef11e - another guy who had 243rwkw on his RB20 using a SLIDE hiflow.

he was seeing full boost (19psi) by 4300rpm.

how does your compare.

you really shouldnt have any trouble beating them.

im running an rb20 in a 180sx, when the motor was almost standard it was level pegging with a hsv R8.

now im running a 3071r and step 1 cams badly tuned and its still alot quicker then it was

done everything positive boost starts at like 3500 but it really doesnt pull at all until 5000 5500 then its like bang 7000 change

second gear wheel spin hits 7000 change

off boost but then comes on quick in third all the way to 7000 change

by that time its too fast to keep going but anyway change into fourth and its off boost for a bit then back on again

lol i like the nitrous shot that would be fun

im runnin 19psi

just if it bogs down is where im screwed really ay

so you guys reckon somethin with like 220rwkw would still keep up pretty well with like an SS?

some food for thought. A VE HSV Maloo R8 Ute (317kw) has around 220kw at the wheels and weighs 1700kg..

but once they start purchasing twin turbo kits, we're all in trouble :P
