Gavin put my car together and tuned it 320 rwkw @ only 1.3 bar boost. So with the boost wound up to 1.6 or 1.7 bar on pump fuel hoping for around 350 to 370 rwkw and this was only a very conservative tune considering i cannot get 98 ron fuel in Townsville gavin tends to stick to a more safe tune than an all out dyno queen thats going to sh#t itself after a couple thousand k's.Some of the spec are.

HKS GT2540 turbos with HKS actuators

HKS dump pipes

power fc

AVCR

HKS cam gear

115mm intercooler

upgraded fuel system 044 fuel pump, 700cc injectors, fuel rail, adj fuel reg etc.

standard cams and the motors stock.

I asked him about any really "tuff" skylines that he had done getting around the gold coast one was owned by a dentist that had quite a bit of money spent on it i think it had around the 450 plus rwkw region if i remember correctly.

Another bit of useless information that i asked him was how many R34 GTR's that he works on i think it was around 10 to 15 so quite a few probably most of the Qld R34 GTR population

Got my 100k service done yesterday... Generally im happy with the service..

$795

Genuine Nissan GTR timing belt and N1 water pump.

all the rest..

will post the sheet with all the things done later

only mishap..

he scratched my 400R front bar ... TWICE!

not happy

got some descent scratches already.. but thats not the point

he did feel bad about it, but that doesnt fix it does it!

Scratch isnt at the bottom like when he test drove it etc either

scratched it reversing off the hoist ... i couldnt possibly be the 1st person with a 400r front bar to go there!

owell, can someone tell me how much a brand new 400r front bar is anyway? then again probably wont get 400r again, want to mix and match a bit

Was a nice 4 door green R34 there when i went

quite impressed

not quite as impressed with Kill Bill that i watched at cinemas while waiting.. one of the best movies ever made, in a class of its own

oh yeh

loved trying to go for a swim afterwoulds too, DAMN INDY!

sposed to be fast, took me an hour to get from autotech to miami beach!, my car was hating me

HAHA !!

did i fly away from you at like 180! hehe was a little silly on the way there/back

cant help myself :(

i cant remember you but then again i was exhausted driving back and nearly fell asleep until i scared myself a few times

shit theres a big storm coming here hey, brissy that is

they reckon hail and everything it looks ****ing nasty

was going to go up the coast

not anymore :P

will post sheet in a minute, before lightning hits my computer and blows it out the window :bahaha:

Yeah I thought that might be the case NismoGirl... Thats why I want to see the sheet.

I'll be getting the water pump done. Doesn't need to be the N1 type tho... GTR timing belt? What are the advantages?

I do most of my own servicing so spark plugs, oil, filters won't need to be changed... Probably get the brakes and coolant flushed tho... Maybe an auto flush and diff oil change?

Hopefully that keeps the price down a little... I'll have to give him a call soon...

hehe yeh im always good behaived! hehe

yeh its worth it though, 100thou is a full on service

advantages of N1 and GTR stuff in a gtst, youll almost never break it !

well almost

hehe

im off to the casino tonite people, something to do that doesnt involve driving the line in the crazy weather

catcha!

  • 4 weeks later...

As it's coming up to his Christmas break, I dare say he'll be pretty close to booked out. I can't go in for a service until after Christmas. Mainly because I can't make it there before they close for christmas. I think they are only open for another 3 weeks. IIRC the closing dates are from the 19th Dec 03 - 5th Jan 04.

Their address is:

Gavin Wood - Auto Tech

23 Gibbs St Labrador 4215

Ph: 5529 2313

AYAYA... My car is going down for a service next Friday. Cept Andrew is taking it down, so I'll assume that I will then need some new tyres by the time he gets back ;)

Just for anyone who is interested, they still have some spare time before christmas to get services done, but you better get in quick!

i'm up to 92,000km - spoze i better get my service done soon.. although i service everything myself, rather let somebody else do the timing belt, water pump and may as well get an TRust camgear done at the same time.

Gavin sounds like the place i should take it, even though i will soon be up in brisland.

for brisbane regulars who go up to Gavin for servicing, do you guys hang around the shop during the service or make another trip back again to collect the car?

i really wanna go to him for my next 5000k servicing but kinda drag the drive.

G

Does Gavin have an email address at the workshop?

Unfortunately not. Although, he is very willing to give advice out over the phone if he has the time. If he had an email address, he'd be answering emails all day and not working on our cars :D

I normally sit around and wait if I'm just getting a service. If you book it in first thing in the morning, it's normally ready around 10ish. If not, presuming you like shopping, you can walk about 1k at the most down the road to harbourtown and do a little bit of browsing/shopping.

Sometimes if I know the car is going to take ages, I normally go down with my B/F and we make a day of it buming around the coast.

JUST got off the phone to gavin

Approx $500 for the 100,000km service on an r32 gtst, this does not include water pump and a few other things.

Also if anybody else needs one (like me) approx $100 for a 2nd hand knock sensor. $250 for a new one.

    • It can't be some stupidly proprietary video signal coming out of it that only Nissan's can understand. Surely you can just find some generic camera to stuff in there and use hot melt glue/blu-tac/gaffer tape to hold it in place if need be?
    • Update: Tunehouse looked into the problem and identified a wiring issue between the camera unit and the connector. They managed to get it working , but did warn me at some point it will stop working again. From their perspective it is unserviceable and will need replacement. They did some research and found that the new replacement camera would be Approx $1400 supply only (their fitting cost would be $190) . They did provide the part number (28442-JL05B) and a quick google of the part number shows that these are rather expensive brand new (seemingly no longer in manufacture) for the places that still have them in stock, with the used option potentially presenting  the same issue down the track at some unknown point. They are happy for me to supply the part so that they can fit it. Decisions, decisions... I can definitely recommend Tunehouse (thankyou Vee37!). Cost for the diagnosis was as quoted  ($190) , car was ready on time and communication was top notch. Their workshop is super clean and modern, and there was plenty of car candy parked out the front on the day I went.   Would definitely go back.
    • to fix the voltage drop issue I swapped out the old 150amp alternator which turns out is a brand known for having issues and replaced it with the black 180amp alternator beside it
    • For anyone interested, the Way Back Machine has that Japanese website archived with pictures, etc: https://web.archive.org/web/20051023225805fw_/http://www.a31cefiro.com/air_con.htm "Simply swapping the wiring of the harness will not allow it to function properly. For the outdoor air sensor and sunlight sensor, disconnect the wiring connected to CN1-11 of the air conditioning harness from the harness and connect the sensor side wiring to earth. For the indoor air sensor, disconnect the wiring connected to CN2-3 of the air conditioning harness from the harness and connect the sensor side wiring to earth. The connector PIN numbers listed here are the genuine A31 PIN numbers. To avoid incorrect wiring, check with a tester before wiring. Also, disconnect the wiring in a location close to the sensor. The disconnected harness side wiring will not be used, so be sure to insulate it." Wish someone sold a conversion harness to just plug-and-play a Kouki 180sx digital climate control into C33/A31. I'm decent with wiring but feeling kinda lazy about taking this on. Edit: Did some more digging and found a helpful Minkara blog post about the conversion as well: https://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/1831116/car/1360568/2284209/note.aspx "After installation is complete or the battery is replaced, you need to go into self-diagnosis mode and set the internal air recirculation. The way to do it is to "hold OFF with the key on for more than 5 seconds, set the number to 5, then press 卍→C." ↑↑↑It probably won't make sense unless you actually try it (・∀・)." Lol wtf
    • Maybe SAUNSW could see howany members would do a motorkhana day if Schofield's is still available for a reasonable price...
