Hey all,

after receiving my full licence renewal form last week sometime, i immediately paid it, and have just today received my driver licence card.

Whilst there is no date of commencement anywhere in the accompanying letter or on the card itself, it does say on my probationary licence that it expires December 19th.

My question is - which licence is currently valid?

I realise the probationary one is yet to expire, so i'm inclined to think i should still be on my Ps, but back in 2005 immediately before i received my probationary licence, my learner permit was still a long way short of expiring. Thus, to my way of thinking, it is possible for a currently valid licence to be usurped by a new one, if and when it is received.

Sorry for the lengthy post, i have a bad habit of talking too much sometimes.

Cheers

Ric

lol these monkeys offer a much quicker response than vicroads ever could.

and im more confident of a favourable outcome here :)

the more i think about it - why would vicroads issue me with an invalid licence? i think my P plates have bitten the dust

the probationary licence is a fixed 3 year term. your full licence isn't valid until the probationary licence expires. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. i was informed of this by mr plod at a booze bus after the exact same thing happenned to me

so they send me the pretty blue one a few weeks early just to tease me? :)

pretty much. actually, it's so that you're never WITHOUT a valid drivers licence. if they mailed it the day your P's expired you wouldn't get it for up to a week making it illegal for you to drive until it's received. they really just need to give you the finger one last time before they have to leave you alone

vicroads phone services SUCK! i rang up yesterday and they transferred me through about 3 times and then goes please hold and then they cut me off the line after waiting like 30 min.. F@#K!

Ring VicRoads.

Ring them before 10am, you wont have to wait too long. Dont ring @ 3pm etc, you'll be clogged with people trying to book L's and P's tests etc.

They will tell you how it is. There is no other way unless you go into a VicRoads office.
